Gratitudes Writing this handbook has been in the works off and on for 8 years, yes 8! It's something I knew I wanted to have for my staff members. I knew it was a necessity for an efficient business. I knew other balloon professionals could use this to help in their businesses. So why 8 years? I would start writing and then would put it off because it was a daunting task to write all of this information, put it in a format I actually liked and found useable. I'd make excuse after excuse for not writing--too many events to decorate was always the best. It's too much work. Who am I to write this? Each winter when things slowed down a bit, or when I'd hire new people, I'd pick up some steam and write a bit more--a little bit. Then I'd stop. For quite a while. It has taken the insistence and assistance of several people who helped me actually get this long-term project complete! It would not have happened without each of them! First and foremost, I give much gratitude to God who led me into this industry, gave me the idea to write, the gift to teach, and who guides me each daily moment. Thanks for helping me make time to write. Cheri McKeever, my office assistant who has patiently listened to me about writing this handbook, who typed many portions, and held onto the multiple files containing the information over the years. Blenda Berrier, of Balloon Construction Company who introduced me to the software that became the perfect tool for creating this handbook. This never would have happened without you! Carolyn Jones, my business coach who held my feet to the fire to get this complete and who also is my never-ending encourager. Liz Gerow, a faithful and joyful employee for several years who actually took on the task of writing several descriptions for me. I appreciate and miss you. Maggie Hinkson who painstakingly took photo after photo of items throughout the shop. Joette Giardina of Balloon Coach for insisting that I get this out and share with others. Mary McGarahan who diligently and patiently helped us have a place for everything and everything in its place. She made it so we actually know where everything is. MOST DEFINITELY to Lindsey Willette, my GOD SEND, who typed, formatted, edited, organized and reorganized ever so patiently for me--many, many times! Lindsey, this would not be without you! My deepest gratitude to each of you! Dianna Glandon, CBA

Introduction It's hard to believe how many different words and terms are used in the balloon industry! I was amazed when we started writing this book! While it's quite extensive, I'm sure there are some terms that have been omitted, though not on purpose. As new techniques and terminology are discovered, we will create a second edition or addendum. Stay in touch with us at www.sanitysaverforms.com to submit or get new terms. Feel free to send me your own names for things too. The "Big Book of Balloon Decorator Lingo" was written to help balloon professionals and staff members learn "balloon lingo" in order to become knowledgeable and efficient. As you and your staff read this, I suggest you show them the actual items and where they are located in your workspace. We left blank lines for you to write in the location of each item. On some pages there is space to write in more terms. There is a Table of Contents to guide you in locating terms. In each section, the terms are arranged in alphabetical order. Photo of all items assist you in learning, and an ABC index at the back for easy reference. Test your knowledge after reading. Don't worry, you aren't expected to know every term in this book right off the bat--it will take a while. There are many items used only occasionally, so this book will serve as a good reference guide whenever you forget or need a new skill. We are have an online test we use for our staff and are working on one for other professionals. If you have a term you'd like added to the next edition, or additional meaning of one already included, please send to me at dianna@abovetheresteventdesigns. We will do our best to include your submission. Happy Ballooning & Go Make Smiles & Give Joy! Dianna Glandon, CBA Sanity Savers & Above the Rest Balloon & Event Designs

Hi Float--Float time Extender Hi-Float Use: Extends the float-time of a helium-filled latex balloon. Secondary suggested uses are to mix with food coloring and inflate white or clear balloons for a swirl effect, or adhere confetti to inside of balloons. Description: Clear sticky gel stored in labeled plastic bottles with pumps. Color-coded restriction clips are used to put the correct amount of hi-float in a balloon. Procedure: Use the correct clips on the HI-Float pump to coordinate with the size of the balloon. Always keep the nozzle of the pump clean. Too much HI-Float will make the balloon too heavy so it won't float, and too little is not effective to make the balloon last a long time. Do Not get any HI-Float into the neck of the balloon when filling or it will make it very difficult and messy to tie. Rub HIFloat around balloon to give an even coating inside. Inflate immediately, or clip and cover (maybe even refrigerate, but warm before inflation) if HI-Floating in advance. Let balloons dry 2 hours before bagging after inflation. Or you can use bags with holes in them. Hi-float bags are available. Be aware that sometimes Hi Float doesn't dry at all due to high humidity.
