How to Make Change Happen
In a rut? Take on these women’s self-care tips to get your life working better.
Know When to Set Goals.
You can increase your chances for success by making goals when you’re in the best mind-set in which to execute them. For instance, don’t plan on working out in the morning if you hate getting up early. Another example, don’t plan your menu when you’re hungry.
Include Real Life Into the Plan.
Barriers to progress happen: sick kids, unpredictable work schedule, etc. Write down how you will navigate them. Use the if-then statement. “If this happens… I will …”
Combine the Task with Something You Enjoy.
Do you love music but hate cleaning up? Crank up some tunes that you can enjoy while you clean the house. Want to walk more but you’re unmotivated? Get into a podcast while you walk.
Give Yourself a “Get Out of Jail Free Card”. Studies show that people who allow “slacks” are more likely to achieve their goals. Have a limited reserve of “Get out of jail free cards” that you can use to stay on track.
Make Sure You Like It.
Liking it works. People who find some enjoyment in the steps will usually stick to their desired changes. ex- Don’t do exercises you don’t enjoy.
Focus on the Process, Not Results. Outcome results can fail because of forces out of your control. ex.- You were going to eat healthy today, but your neighbor asked you to dinner. Instead, focus on the process or the steps to take to get to where you want to go. Don’t say “I need to lose 5 lbs.” Rather, drop an item or two off your weekly diet.
WHAT IS HAIR BOTOX?
Don’t worry. It’s not what you’re thinking.
No, there won’t be any needles going into your scalp. It’s actually a deep conditioning treatment that you can do in your salon. According to stylist Kayla Ciambrone, “Hair botox is a deep conditioning treatment that will keep your hair’s texture intact while leaving it smoother and more hydrated than before.” She says, “The name comes from the way the product works—as a filler for individual hair fibers, sealing split ends and giving hair a new sleekness and fullness to reduce frizz.”

Hoka One Clifton 9 $150

Brooks Ghost 15 $140

Inov-8 F-lite G 300 $160
The product is essentially a non-chemical concentrate that can include ingredients like vitamin B5, vitamin E, collagen complex, antioxidants, and caviar oil. “Depending on the texture of your hair and the desired result, the hair botox is left on your hair anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour.” Once it’s time to rinse out the product, your stylist will use a special pH balancing shampoo and conditioner. “Your hair is then blow-dried and flat ironed and cannot be washed or get wet for at least 48 hours,” Ciambrone says. “I recommend 72 hours, if the client can wait.” Results can last anywhere from two to four months.

HOW TO START YOUR FITNESS JOURNEY
BY: IVY SNELLGROVE
The pressure to “get in shape” or maintain a certain body type can be overwhelming. We are flooded with unrealistic expectations of what a fitness journey should look like. Fitness, however, is just that - a journey. If you are looking to establish an exercise routine, I encourage you to ask yourself these questions.
1. Why Should I Start?
Consider what you are looking to gain from your exercise routine. Is your goal to build muscle, or increase your cardiac endurance? Maybe you are striving to improve your physical health by losing weight or lowering your blood pressure. Try writing down these goals to keep yourself accountable.
2. What Should I Do?
Research has proven the benefits of traditional exercises, such as weightlifting, running, or yoga. However, expand your view of fitness by incorporating other types of exercises into your daily life. Go on a walk with a friend or try a group fitness class. Remember that any movement is a step towards a better you.
3. How Will I Maintain It?
Maintaining your new routine is often the hardest part. It may take months to form a habit and see results. On the days that you want to quit, remember why you started. Take time to reflect on your goals and be proud of the progress you are making towards them. Be kind to yourself and remember that progress is not always linear. You will never regret showing up for yourself - I know I never have.

INJECTABLE WEIGHT LOSS UPDATE
Late last summer we published a story about weight loss injectables. We’ve been following a local female in her mid-40s who began taking Mounjaro at the beginning of June. She started at 2.5 mg and was moved up to 5.0 after 3 months. In our last update in November she had lost 21 lbs. Her last injection was at the end of December. At this time she had lost a total of 26 lbs. (Her goal is to lose 35 lbs.) She decided to pause her injections to see how her body would adjust. Since her last injection roughly 8 weeks ago from when this was written, she had not gained any weight back. She said her food cravings have stayed in-check for the most part, but has noticed a slight increase in sugar and alcohol cravings. Important to note, our subject has not altered her exercise routine during this entire time. Her side effects were minimal, but did have some IBS symptoms after upping her dose from 2.5 to 5.0. Her symptoms were prevalent for about 3 days, but she made a quick recovery.
About Town is not encouraging or discouraging anyone from taking any type of medications. As with all medical issues, About Town warns you to always speak to your doctor. Our subject was under her doctor’s supervision.
She plans on resuming her shots after taking about 2-3 months off since she fell 9 lbs short of her goal weight. She added, “What’s nice about being on the shots is that food is never really part of your thought process. And it definitely lessens certain cravings. It’s like it mentally controls your diet for you.” She also said, “I expect some nausea for a few days when I start the shots again because my body won’t be used to it.”
We mentioned in our last update that most reports suggest that new and improved weight loss injectables are just around the corner, along with lowered prices. About Town will have another update in the next few months.

WHEN YOUR HOME LOOKS GREAT YOU FEEL GREAT
by Christen Bond at Ray & Poynor
A well edited home brings a plethora of mental health benefits.
1. REDUCED STRESS
It feels good to walk into a clean and organized home. On the flip side, a messy house could wreak havoc on your health as studies link clutter to increased levels of cortisol and feelings of sadness. Lower stress levels are one of the many benefits of maintaining a clean home.
2. INCREASED PRODUCTIVITY
Physical clutter leads to mental clutter and weighs you down. When you’re feeling overwhelmed, you end up doing less. When your home looks great, you feel lighter and are more likely to get things done.
3. IMPROVED FOCUS
Multi-tasking and managing distractions are a way of life. Organizing your home in a way that flows with the rhythm of your day, streamlines mundane tasks leaving more time to focus on work and extracurriculars.
4. BETTER SLEEP
Recent studies show healthy sleep habits are key to long term health and wellness. When it’s time to relax and wind down for the night, walking into a tidy room with a well made bed calms your mind, body, and soul.
5. SAVES TIME
Life is easier when items have a place. The minutes you spend searching for an item add up, ruffle your feathers, and steal your joy. When you finish using something, put it back. You’ll feel better knowing it’s there next time you need it.
Are you ready to take your spring cleaning to the next level this year? Start small with one corner or drawer at a time. If you take on too much at once, you may lose steam and end up with a bigger mess.
If you’re looking for a professional organizer, give me a call and I’ll be happy to help you find the right one for your space. You can reach me at (205) 612-9432 or cbond@raypoynor.com.

3 Women’s Care Options
For optimal well-being
Honesty about women’s health is becoming increasingly prevalent, and there are important conversations happening around the benefits of women taking special care of their intimate areas. Recent dermatological innovations are tailored specifically to women’s health and their unique needs. Gunn Dermatology offers three transformative treatments to enhance and restore vaginal health discreetly and effectively. With a blend of advanced technology and expert care, women can now explore options that prioritize their intimate health with dignity and discretion. These dermatological solutions are tailored to empower and uplift women on their journey to optimal well-being.
VITALIA
1
TempSure Vitalia is a FDA-approved treatment for vaginal tightening and rejuvenation. Vitalia is designed to improve the symptoms of vaginal atrophy (laxity, dryness, itchiness, and painful sex) in women. The Vitalia device can tighten and restore the loose vaginal tissue and can also improve nerve sensitivity that decreases with aging and post childbirth for a better sexual experience. If you’d like to restore your femininity, this treatment may be perfect for you.
How It Works
TempSure Vitalia harnesses gentle radio-frequency technology, which enables vaginal rejuvenation by delivering therapeutic electrical heat to the target mucosal and skin tissue, therefore, increasing local circulation, boosting collagen and elastin production, and decreasing pain and muscle spasms.
The Vitalia treatment offers a range of benefits: it tightens the vaginal canal, improves and tightens the appearance of vaginal and labia skin, improves intimate experience, boosts self-confidence, relieves dryness and enhances sensitivity, reduces urinary leaks and incontinence, is gentle, well tolerated, non-invasive, nonablative and does not require anesthesia. The Vitalia treatment is convenient, and most patients resume their routines immediately after the treatment.
Dr. Gunn recommends pairing Rosebud products with any these treatments.
HIFEM CHAIR
2
A breakthrough treatment for pelvic floor rejuvenation, incontinence, and confidence. This unique technology revolutionizes women’s intimate health and wellness by providing those suffering from incontinence with a completely non-invasive option.
How It Works
High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology to stimulate deep pelvic floor muscles and restore neuromuscular control. A single session brings thousands of supramaximal pelvic floor muscle contractions, which are extremely important in muscle re-education of incontinent patients. All this is done without any effort on your part and without getting undressed.
Scientific research shows that 95% of treated patients have reported significant improvement in their quality of life.
There are an array of benefits to this treatment: it is non-surgical, one treatment is the equivalent of 12,000 Kegels, women experience a temporary increase of local circulation and increased sensitivity during intercourse after treatment, and it rejuvenates the pelvic floor
O2G SHOT
3
Gunn Dermatology has recently introduced their O2G Shot. The O2G Shot is a non-surgical treatment that is going to increase sexual arousal, improve your intimate experience and rejuvenate the vagina. This shot is a safe, minimally invasive procedure that uses the body’s natural healing abilities to improve the function and health of the clitoris and vaginal canal.
How It Works
At the heart of the O2G Shot’s magic lies Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), leveraging the healing factors within the patient’s own bloodstream.
When injected into the targeted areas of the vaginal tissue – like the clitoris, G-spot, or vaginal canal – PRP produces an array of natural healing processes. Blood vessels widen, stimulating healthier blood flow. Collagen production also increases, enhancing tissue structure and elasticity.
Dr. Gunn recommends pairing this shot with the Vitalia treatment.

FINDING BALANCE
For me, finding balance is about knowing when to prioritize, delegate or take a step back to recharge. It lets me bring my A-game to everything, whether it’s work or life outside of the office. I’ve noticed that when I make time for my health, hobbies and loved ones, everything—yes, even work—feels more fulfilling.
One of the many things I love about Motion is that it has always been deeply involved in community philanthropy. The Company’s volunteer program offers many benevolent opportunities for employees throughout the year, plus information about how they can further support various nonprofit organizations. Employees receive compensatory time for their volunteer work, which makes it easier for many to raise their hands. Engagement is essential for creating meaningful community relationships and achieving positive change.

It’s not an easy task to balance my roles as a business owner, mother, daughter, and friend, but I am grateful to have an outstanding support system who encourages my entrepreneurial spirit. After owning JJ Eyes for 22 years, this business has become a huge part of who I am, so balancing work and life has become who I am.
Prioritizing support for local schools and smaller organizations in Birmingham and Fairhope is a sincere commitment for us. In 2023, we partnered with The Parkinson Association of Alabama, hosting community events to raise funds and awareness for the cause. Our recent ‘September Soiree’ featured a raffle with various prizes, including eyewear, all aimed at supporting Parkinson’s disease awareness and research. As a small business owner, I am passionate about promoting local shopping and encourage others to do the same.

In my view, calling it a worklife balance really is chasing something that you can’t grasp. I look at it as work-life integration because there is always an ebb and flow to each component. Where you integrate the two and establish firm boundaries everything really is manageable.
H2 Real Estate supports our community in ways that I’ve never seen before in a property management company. Not only do we sponsor large community events like Sidewalk Film Festival and sports teams like Birmingham Legion Football Club and The Barons, we also invest a lot of our resources into renewing, and maintain, Birmingham’s vintage and historic buildings.
Our company has, without a doubt, had a major influence in Downtown Birmingham’s revitalization, and also in the Avondale, Highland Park, 5 Points South, and the up-and-coming Glen Iris neighborhoods. Our employees have a passion for working at H2 Real Estate because it’s special to be part of something bigger than just “a job,” and that passion is what drives us.

I think the to-do list for most women is never-ending, however timers and time blocking have really helped me. My goal is to be fully present with my daughter when I’m with her and then to be focused on work when it’s time for that. I don’t always make an A+ but I keep trying!
Over the last four years I have raised over $8000 for local charities close to my heart through my portrait fundraising events. When my daughter who has Down syndrome was born, a whole new world of beauty opened up for me. Because of my love for the special needs community plus our sweet dog, I love serving and giving back to UnlessU.org and petrelated charities. I also think it’s so important for our kids to see themselves displayed in their home. For that reason, I am a full-service boutique photography studio that is committed to providing finished artwork of your loved ones that are ready to hang in your home. Seeing your family and kids on the wall not only gives your home a hug, but it also increases children’s self-esteem.

Finding the balance between work and life is something I think we’re all trying to accomplish, but I’ve found that prioritizing what is important and being intentional in regards to those things is imperative. Setting boundaries in my life, and surrounding myself with people I love and respect makes that balance not only achievable but enjoyable.

I balance work and life by having a good morning routine. I try to workout at least 5 days a week, if not more, and love getting outside and going on walks with friends. Navigating the demands of both work and life hinges on setting the right priorities. I am committed to spending time with the people in my life, and I am passionate about the work that I do. To balance them both, I must manage my time and resources with great care and responsibility. You also have to consider that different seasons of life require different levels of investment. Over time I’ve learned to assess and prioritize what truly matters and what I can and can’t control. Through all the seasons, my faith and family remain my constant priority.
Southern Power places the highest value on positively impacting the communities where we serve — we also understand that the heart of community is our people. We believe in the power of giving back and put our commitment into action through philanthropy and volunteerism.
Southern Power not only offers opportunities for employees to give back together, it also empowers me to meaningfully contribute to my own community in Birmingham. I’m fortunate to work hand-in-hand with organizations like United Way, the American Heart Association and local non-profits like Red Mountain Grace. GOOD TASTE GOOD TASTE
By: Scott Atkinson , Wine Manager at PIGGLY WIGGLY IN CRESTLINE
Women Are Doing It For Themselves
You’ve likely heard of “mansplaining.” What a wonderful thing. Who better than a middleaged white dude to heap praise upon the women in the wine world? We were asked to focus on some great female led wineries and find some great female made wines. The list is, obviously, far too long to cover with any thoroughness, but we thought we’d at least try to give a good “manswer.” Best to spare us all any further embarrassment and proceed on to this wonderful list of delicious wines made by talented women.
This woman led operation is not multi-generational, but it is extraordinarily impressive irrespective of age. Bibiana González Rave was taken with the romance and complexity of wine from an early age and decided then that she wanted to become a winemaker. After an impressive educational and work resume throughout legendary French properties, Bibiana came to California. The San Francisco Chronicle selected her as Winemaker of the Year in 2015. That is some high, and well earned, praise.
WENTE
One of the benefits of being a family-owned operation is that you don’t answer to shareholders who may not “get it.” The flip side is that you may have to talk business with your mother at the dinner table. The ladies of Wente include Carolyn (Board Chairwoman and CEO for the past 15 years), Aly (VP), Niki (Vineyard Manager), and Jordan (Sales Director) among others. We at The Pig are excited to see such excellent wines from a six-generation strong, female run organization.
HONIG
Another legendary, family-run California property, Honig is more than fifty-percent staffed by the distaff gender. The winemaker - Kristin Belair, enologist – Ashley Egelhoff, and director of marketing – Regina Weinstein, work hand-in-hand with the executive side, run in part by Stephanie Honig, to bring us delicious Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc. This five-generation winery has a bright future, in no small part due to the vision and acumen of the women at the helm.
CENTORRI MOSCATO
Gotta finish with a touch of sweetness. After watching generations of men make Moscato, Elenora decided to strike out on her own and take the ladies of the family with her. Their winery, Centorri, is fully owned and managed by women: estate manager and winemaker Eleonora Brangero, along with her mother Emiliana and grandmother Camilla—known as the “ladies of Moscato.” They make some unashamedly delightful Moscato. Treat yourself.
The Pig has been voted as The Best Place to Buy Wine in Birmingham for the 5th year in row. Our knowledgeable staff is happy to help you with any question, and make any suggestion based on your personal tastes and budget.
