How Can I Tell If Someone is Being Honest on Dating Apps

Your marriage will be grounded. You enjoy the finer things in life. It is important to mix things up becuase you two can get stuck in your ways.

- Gemini: May 21 - June20

Communication is key! You crave variety so take part in new activities together. But remember to prioritize your time together.

- Cancer: June 21 - July 22

>>> I recently met someone on a dating app and they wanted to Snapchat so we could see each other before meeting in person. He looked nothing like his pictures. So I assume he’s completely misrepresented himself in everything else? How do you find out if someone is lying on a dating app? And what’s your advice on the information you put about your own profile?

Home is where the heart is for you. You pamper each other. Cutesy nicknames are a common. The danger comes in getting wrapped up and becoming homebodies. Stay connected and interactive!

- Leo: July 23 - August 22

Ding ding ding...I would say you are on the right track! If his pictures look nothing like what you saw when you used Snapchat, chances are, his information in other areas probably contains at least a slight (please note the sarcasm) misrepresentation of who he really is. I definitely recommend people use all resources available, and there are many, to investigate people they might be interested in meeting when the “first contact” has been on a dating app. You have Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Snapchat, and many other tools at your fingertips. Unfortunately, one of the only real ways to know if someone is lying to you or misrepresenting themselves on a dating app is to actually use some form of video communication or meet in person. Risky...I know! Call me crazy…but it is my professional experience that when someone is lying about who they are on a dating app, they will probably lie about many other things in a relationship going forward. Not really a great way to start some new relationship endeavor, but seems quite common. That being said, if they misrepresent themselves in pictures, I might call it quits and try again with someone new. Honesty is one of the highest regarded values in a relationship! You probably shouldn’t assume this level of honesty will change, if they can’t even be truthful about how they look.

Besides, confidence is such an attractive feature! If they are that insecure in themselves and how they look, they most likely have some personal self confidence issues they need to work on before being healthy enough to enter into a relationship. As far as what you put on your own dating app profile, I obviously believe it should be HONEST! Pictures need to be current and true to who you are. I believe pictures should show your personality as much as pictures can. Be honest about what you are looking for by being on the app. If you are looking for a long-term relationship, don’t be afraid to say it. If you are looking for a hook-up, don’t be afraid to say that either because there are plenty of people who will jump on that opportunity as well! It is just part of the society we live in today. I know many single people who wish there were an app strictly for hook-ups and another app strictly for those looking to actually meet real people and form quality relationships. If you have values important to you that might be deal breakers in a relationship, it might be a good idea to include those. Dating is about getting to know people and decide if they hold long-term relationship potential or even marriage potential! The more honest everyone is, the less broken hearts and frustrated single people there will be!

Your marriage is likely dramatic, theatrical, and passionate. You have strong opinions and not shy of sharing them. Be careful though to not get caught in a power struggle.

- Virgo: August 23 - Sept 22

Your marriage is organized, refined, and healthy. You pay attention to the little things. You are each others cheerleaders. Be careful not to get stuck on your small problems.

- Libra: Sept 23 - Oct 22

This sign rules marriage! October is one of the biggest wedding months! This marriage is very well balanced. The relationship is a priority however you can lose your individuality. Remember to still be your own person!

- Scorpio: Oct 23 - Nov 21

There is bound to be a ton of intimacy and passion in this marriage. Beware of jelousy though, and if you feel hurt talk about it!

- Sagittarius: Nov 22 - Dec 21

You are very outgoing, adventurous, and worldly. There will be lots of travel in the future. However, try not to take too many risks and dont live too far on the edge.

- Capricorn: Dec 22 - Jan 19

This is a sign of tradition which is why winter weddings are around this time. You are about legacy and honoring heritage. Do be careful about worrying too much about the future and focus on the present.

- Aquarius: Jan 20 - Feb 18

Three words: unconventional, quirky, and modern. Youre each others best friend but you also are very social. Remember to setaside time to be one-on-one together.

GOOD TASTE

PROMOTION

By: Scott Atkinson, Wine Manager at the PIGGLY WIGGLY IN CRESTLINE

THE DIRTY LITTLE SECRET OF YOUR WEDDING

That being established, we will tell you a dirty little secret‌ nobody remembers the wine at a wedding. So just get something you like, something that goes with the cuisine, and something that fits your budget. It is all about you anyway! We will get to

You know what most folks remember at weddings? They remember the band, the wedding party, the overwhelming sense of joy and maybe the weather. They remember if the food and wine were good, but likely not exactly what the food and wine were. Select something that *you* like. Something that makes sense for your preferences, your cuisine, and your budget.

T

he most important thing about a wedding are the folks getting married. The event is *literally* all about them and their future happiness. Our hope is that anyone who can contribute to this happiness keeps this in mind during the planning process. It is important for the couples getting married to remember this as well.

that shortly. But first‌ There is only one really important bottle at a wedding. And this is extremely important. Most wedding days include a time where the couple is sequestered before they are introduced at the reception. This is an amazing time. The newlyweds are all on their own, alone, enjoying a little food and wrapping their minds around the fact that they are embark on this wonderful journey together. This moment requires Champagne. This moment requires REAL CHAMPAGNE. We recommend a 375ml (half bottle) of Laurent Perrier Brut for the following reasons:

- There are moments in life that require real Champagne. Cava, Prosecco, and all of the other sparkling wines are nice and all, but newlyweds deserve to enjoy great sparkling wine at this moment. - A half-bottle is perfect. Just a touch to take the edge off, but not so much as to risk acting too tipsy at the beginning of the reception. - Laurent-Perrier is a something that you can easily find in the future. Make certain that this Champagne is something that will be around for your 1st, 15th, and 50th wedding anniversaries. - We have the Laurent-Perrier for about $25 a bottle. It is not too crazy expensive, but worth it on one of the most important days of your life.

We can go over options with you when you come see us at the store. We can help you estimate how much wine and beer you need for your wedding. Most importantly, we can wish you well as you look forward to a future of wedded bliss! - Scott, Jerome, Thomas, Lillian, and all of us at Piggly Wiggly ABOUT

ABOUT

Kimberly Jackson

Community Relations Manager, Birmingham Division, Alabama Power

Candice Dubose

Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeon & Assistant Professor, UAB Medicine

Motivation In my role, I am charged with building relationships with key government, civic and community development stakeholders in an effort to grow the communities we serve. What I find most rewarding is having the opportunity to partner with each community in my “territory,” developing innovative strategies to help them thrive and reach their full potential. It is also rewarding to work for a company that values its customers and has a sustaining commitment to improve communities we serve. Each community has its own unique strengths and challenges and I enjoy exploring opportunities to leverage their strengths to overcome their challenges.

Motivation As an orthopaedic trauma surgeon at a Level 1 trauma center, I see many patients who are in a bad place after having a car accident, a motorcycle wreck, or an injury on the job. I have the opportunity to assist them in a time of need, to help them get back to a normal life. I had a patient who was injured on the job as a public servant and he asked me, “What is going to happen to me?” I saw him recently, and he is back doing the job he loves. To me, nothing could be more rewarding.

Hopes

Hopes

As a native of Birmingham, I am so encouraged by the recent growth and revitalization of our city! The energy in the city is dramatically different from even just five or ten years ago. It’s refreshing to see an influx of diversity of thought, culture and industry. My hope for Birmingham is that we can continue to find opportunities for regional collaboration to improve educational and economic opportunities for ALL citizens, particularly in underserved communities city-wide. Just as Birmingham served as a catalyst for social change in the 1960s, I believe Birmingham is uniquely positioned to serve as a catalyst and model for creating solutions for economic opportunity in urban areas across the country.

UAB Medicine is home to some of the top medical programs in America and is an outstanding educational facility. Through my work with organizations like The Perry Initiative, I hope to share my love of orthopaedics with young ladies who might be interested in specializing in this very rewarding field of medicine. UAB Medicine offers aspiring surgeons opportunities unlike any other in Alabama. My hope is that these programs promoting diversity continue to grow and inspire future generations.

Stacey Walters

Dir. of Medicare Advantage & Quality Management Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama

Motivation I primarily focus on our Medicare Advantage product. As we age, we interact on a more frequent basis with the healthcare system. Sometimes accessing healthcare services can be complicated, fragmented, and confusing for members and their families. I have a passion for this population and am privileged to work at a company that empowers its employees to address these complex issues and continuously supports “customer first. We are in a transformational period in healthcare, with a focus on improving our member and provider’s experience, and I am honored to be a part of this effort. Hopes I love that Birmingham surprises most people when they visit for the first time. It is a city with a small town feel and lush southern hospitality. We have amazing food, a rich culture, and incredible people. I am excited to see the innovation that is coming out of Birmingham. With companies like Shipt and Innovation Depot, as examples, I hope to see our city continue to grow through innovation. By attracting and retaining talented, diverse individuals and companies, we are not only investing in the future of our city, but also our state.

Kristen McGee

Qualifying Broker, RealtySouth Homewood

Motivation Being a realtor is rewarding in so many ways! It is amazing to watch people achieve a lifelong dream of homeownership. I also love teaching people about ways that they can plan for their future by making wise real estate investments as a way to plan for retirement. I know that real estate transactions can be very stressful, my goal is to take away some of that stress and make the process as seamless as possible. Hopes I have loved watching our city grow! I hope to continue to watch this growth. I want more people to learn about and love our city! I have lived here my whole life and one of my favorite things is to teach people about all of the great spots around our city that are worth checking out. I love our food, music and fitness scene. We really do have a ton of great places around that make it a great spot for anyone!

Mary Alice Kline Commercial Banking Vice President, IBERIABANK

Rosemary Alexander

Trial Attorney, Alexander Shunnarah Personal Injury Attorneys

Motivation My role is to understand a business owner’s goals and to offer solutions and strategies to best meet those needs. From expanding into a new building, starting a new line of business, or transitioning a business to a future generation, I enjoy helping business owners create a lasting legacy. I enjoy exploring the many pockets of Birmingham, getting to know the vast businesses in our community, solving the unique challenges that each new day brings, and ultimately participating in the growth and vitality of Birmingham. Through my career, it’s truly rewarding to feel like I’m playing a part in making Birmingham better. Hopes Birmingham already has great momentum. My hope is for more people to share their time and talents improving our community – through volunteer leadership. Perhaps you will be inspired to be a part of the city’s future leadership and answer the call to support a new generation of business, answer the call to instruct and develop the abilities of our workforce, or to answer the call to lead and find ways to serve those that are less fortunate. Lily Tomlin, the famous actress/comedian said it best, “I always wondered why somebody didn’t do something about that. Then I realized I was that somebody.” This city belongs to us. The responsibility of innovating our community lies in the hands and the hearts of each one of us.

Motivation Alexander Shunnarah hired me as the first female trial attorney nine years ago to help people hurt at no fault of their own. My clients depend on me to make them whole again which is a huge responsibility. It is beyond rewarding to meet someone in a time of need and walk with them until that need is met. Fast forward nine years later, I am married with four kids and still doing the exact same job because I love helping people. Hopes I hope Birmingham invests more in our people through education, employment, and other opportunities. I then hope people thrive on that investment and re-invest in Birmingham. Thanks to the Birmingham Zoo, Alexander Shunnarah participates in Birmingham Promise which places high schoolers in apprenticeships. Our student has a front row seat to our job: she meets clients, she meets judges, she meets other attorneys, and so on. The investment in her invests in the future of Birmingham. We are all like stars that alone don’t give off much light but together can light up the night sky.

Laura Susan Burns

Realtor®, RealtySouth

Managing Partner, Burns, Brashier & Johnson, LLC

Motivation

Motivation

There’s nothing like helping families with one of their biggest investments they will make in their lifetime. Meeting new people, building relationships and helping clients achieve their real estate dreams is the best part of being a Realtor®. Homeownership is a part of the American dream, and it’s so rewarding to be a part of that journey.

It is particularly rewarding to navigate clients through difficulty and emotional waters. Because Domestic Relations law is intensely personal, often strong bonds of trust are created between lawyer and client. I also enjoy being in the courtroom, and domestic relations suits me well because it is litigation intensive.

Hopes

Hopes

Our City has come such a long way throughout the last decade. I am so proud of Birmingham and all that is has to offer its civilians. From the culinary scene to entertainment, many people are discovering how special Birmingham is. Residents have started to feel a sense of community as more local businesses are created, and historic icons are restored. Innovation is at its peak for our city, and my hopes are that Birmingham continues to grow and inspire for many generations to come.

I hope that the community continues to flourish and grow allowing the citizens to economically and socially thrive. As a city, I believe it is important that we come together to exhibit tolerance and find solutions to the prevention of violent crimes.

Margaret Newton Assistant Branch Manager, Progress Bank

Motivation What makes my position rewarding is the people! Progress Bank has an outstanding team in the Highlands Office in downtown Birmingham and the Vestavia Office. I feel lucky to work with such a committed group of people who push me every day to be the best I can be! But, the most rewarding feature of my job is my daily contact with customers. I love working one-on-one with our customers to assist them in their day to day banking needs, as well as meeting their financial goals Hopes Banking is a “people “ business, and I love that! What I hope for Birmingham is to see the continued growth we have seen in the last several years. The revitalization of downtown, with the building of lofts, the opening of new food establishments, the influx of breweries, and the beginnings of new sports establishments is all very exciting and energizing. Birmingham has so much to offer for all ages of people, and I think it is a wonderful place to live!

Avani Patel

Owner, Jewelry Designer, GIA Graduate Gemologist, Avani Rupa Fine Jewelers

Motivation I love being part of our clients’ important life moments. Fine jewelry is one of the most personal items to own and typically, there is always a milestone or memory tied to it. Whether it is helping someone to select a piece from one of my curated collections or working with them to custom design an heirloom piece, being a part of their stories is magical! When people trust me with those precious memories and to be their personal jeweler, that is the ultimate reward. Hopes Birmingham. When I say my city’s name, I feel so many emotions. I think of the words: history, struggle, progress, strength, love, unity, art, talent, and passion. All of these words together describe how I feel about Birmingham, and how bright our future really is. I hope that we are able to continue to find unity among us to make this city a place of equal opportunity for our young students through education. I also hope that Birmingham will provide the resources for creative entrepreneurs, especially females, to be able to pursue their passions. The younger generation is our future; we must invest in them to really see all of our hopes and dreams come to life for Birmingham.

My Clients Are My Fit Models In the fashion industry, brands perfect their garments to a Fit model, someone whose measurements reflect their target market. This is not the case with Ashley’s brand, Something You Couture, as each and every client is their own fit model. Together, Ashley and her clients perfect the fit through sketches, fabric selections, and rounds of fittings. Simply meet Ashley with an idea and leave with an item NOT needing alterations. Custom couture to Ashley and her team, is not telling you what size you are at your bust waist and hips, but creating and producing your clothes to be your size, your style, & Something You.

Having worked in fashion from New York, Chicago, and Nashville, Ashley Gootee of Something You Couture landed in Birmingham and is now bringing the magic of custom couture- no alterations neededto the city of Birmingham.

REINVENTION >

1

Have a dress you love the way it fits, but want to change it up a bit to rewear it? This option is for you! Work with Ashley to discover ways the dress can be reworked, adding straps, changing the skirt, shortening the length, or adding some feathers.

< MOTHER/DAUGHTER

2

This is the perfect mother-daughter wedding memory, where both of you can come in with idea, color palette, or pictures of garments you like but... you both can personally sit and create your dream garment with Ashley. Ashley will fill in all of “l like these designs, but..” and you both will leave with a NO alterations needed.

HEIRLOOM PIECE >

3

Another option is to bring a mother’s and even a grandmother’s gown into the picture. All generations can be present for this experience, working with Ashley to modernize an heirloom piece into a getting ready robe, rehearsal dress, reception piece, or adding aspects of the heirloom to the new dress.

4

CUSTOM JUMPSUIT

Perfect for the women who want it all. You’ve got the heirloom rehearsal dress, perfect ceremony gown, and now you want something fun for the party. Customize a jumpsuit for your reception with fabrics, and ask about custom beadwork.

CUSTOM BEADING >

5

Designed with Ashley yet hand beaded in India, this can range in ANY color and any imaginable design. Want to have your dogs face on a reception piece? Done. Have a specific design in mind? Done. Anything is possible here, with and additional timeline, you and Ashley can create a custom hand beaded gown or detail, for your big day.

Book your appointment with Ashley on the Something You Couture website:

CARING FOR YOUR

Carats

1.

Dumbbells and diamonds aren’t meant to be: We know you want to show off your ring where ever you go, but your hands can really take a beating at the gym. Those rough workouts, especially if you’re using weights, can be just as strenuous on your diamond as you.

2.

from these can cause the diamond or stone to appear greasy, dirty, and dull.

3.

Take your jewelry to your local Diamonds Direct or any local jeweler to get them cleaned and rinsed of any dirt, lotions and oils. This will help them keep their brilliance and sparkle!

Diamonds don’t need SPF: We are all about some skin care and suggest having spf at all times, but your diamond won’t get burnt we promise! Take off your jewelry when applying lotions, body oils, and sunscreens. The added oils

Peck’s Points!

3 pointers for selling your current home ... and finding the next one. 1. Get Right on Price. It’s very easy to over price your home. Spending too much time on the Internet can walk you down that path quickly. Leaving,“wiggle room” or “room to negotiate” is detrimental to your sale and only helps other sellers in the area. 2. Clutter Less, Show More. I use the “Half & Half”

rule. Look at flat surfaces of your home and remove half of the items. Next, remove half of those items. Same goes for pillows, clothes, pictures and books. You want to show the space of your home and allow the buyer to imagine their belongings in it; not how many figurines you can fit on a hallway table.

3. Visit Neighborhoods, Not Websites. The Internet

offers an amazing array of choices for the home buyer and gives tons of very practical and useful information. However, home buying is a Process of Elimination rather than a Shopping Spree. This is where we will make a plan based on your wants and needs for your new home. Next, we will tour neighborhoods that have the most listings that meet your needs. Websites can help narrow down options, but spending time in a house is the only way to feel right at home.

MOTIVATED. PROFESSIONAL. AUTHENTIC.

Motivated to accomplish your goals. Striving to be authentic in every deal. PECK BARHAM, REALTOR RE/MAX Southern Homes | 205.529.1220 Peck.Barham@Remax.net | www.TeamBarham.com

DREAD RIVER’S NYE SPEAKEASY With Hidden Rooms, Roaring Tunes and Bootlegged Booze, Dread River’s New Year’s Eve Speakeasy at Dread River Distilling Co. took a unique approach to a twenties themed event.
