Anyway, I’m concerned because I discovered he’s been a bit too much into pornography. Should I be concerned, or is this the result of us suppressing ourselves?

First of all, I would be interested in knowing what “a bit too much” actually looks like. If “a bit too much” is a daily thing, there is definitely a reason to be concerned. If “a bit too much” is a monthly thing, it’s probably not something to worry about, but still worthy of a conversation. Anything falling between daily and monthly is something I would suggest discussing in a more in-depth manner. Pornography is something readily available (i.e., at our fingertips 24/7) to everyone in our current society…unfortunately. It can be the cause of many issues in relationships whether it be emotional or sexual. People have a tendency to either deem pornography as a relationship crisis issue, or they don’t see it as an issue at all. Regardless of the amount of time he is spending viewing pornography, a serious discussion around what you both believe and feel as it relates to porn probably needs to happen prior to a wedding. Start with discussing how you both think and feel about the use of pornography individually and within the relationship. I would want to find out how long and how often he uses pornography. Does he watch things typical of one man and one woman, or is he watching videos including acts well outside your sexual comfort zones? Pornography can cause issues for someone sexually if they grow too accustomed to sexual situations not apt to be had within the marriage. Also, what are your sexual expectations once married? How often will you have sex? How adventurous will your sex lives be? If these haven’t been discussed due to embarrassment or discomfort, suck it up and TALK! I’ve seen too many couples with sexual issues in their marriages who just thought “it will all be fine when we get married.” Except, it wasn’t fine because expectations weren’t met because they weren’t even known prior to saying “I do.”

If you don’t feel like you can muster up the courage to have the conversation, schedule the two of you some premarital counseling with someone who lists that they also do sex therapy. They can assist you in navigating through that conversation.

My husband just wants peace and seems to never take a side. Is this a problem I need to address with my husband or directly with my motherin-law?

Mother-in-laws can definitely be difficult, or they can be quite amazing!

This issue probably needs to be addressed with your husband first. Also, you might consider another side issue: he’s allowing his mother to continue making insults towards you in efforts to “keep the peace.” Though he has probably developed skills to deal with his mother that you have not yet acquired, it might be a good idea for you to help him understand how this is a big issue for you. Think about whether or not you are going to be resentful towards your husband if you have to address your mother-in-law directly. If he is adamant about “keeping the peace” and not having the discussion with her, I would suggest scheduling a time to meet with her in a neutral zone to address the issue. Remain calm and factual during the meeting. Sometimes a healthy level of respect can be gained from calmly addressing the problem directly with the person.

Highlights Sweating profusely gave me a feeling of great accomplishment, and, coupled with knowing the 120-124 degrees of infrared heat detoxified my body from the inside out was surprisingly refreshing. I can understand why people craved the heat. Another highlight was learning the variety of virtual classes offered! I had no idea HOTWORX had the options of rowing (you have to try this rower!), cycling, resistance bands (holy ouch!), isometrics, yoga, core, hot buns… shall I go on? There is also an area designated for weight training with a full rack of dumbbells, cable machine for additional resistance training, and functional equipment at your disposal.

Hotworx is various exercises performed in infared heat to maximize the most intense calorie burn and detox in the shortest amount of time. Exercises range from yoga, pilates, cycle, row, bands and more, and are directed by a virtual instructor in a space by yourself or with 2 or 3 more people.

Takeaways I love how classes are every 15 minutes24-hrs-a-day. So, it will work with everyone’s schedule. If music motivates you like it does me, I would recommend bringing headphones or a small Bluetooth speaker. This is approved by HOTWORX and implemented by most members. Come prepared with your favorite playlist or podcast to take your mind off the workout! Another takeaway was, if you’re in need of alone time, HOTWORX will be your jam! Can I get an amen from the moms?

However, if you’re accustomed to typical group fitness scenario and thrive on a class full of people, there may be a momentary adjustment period until friendships are formed with other members. Lastly, the heat is adjustable so don’t let that deter you from trying!

How to Save Money For Your Wedding Without Tying Yourself in Knots.

A wedding is one of the biggest expenses many of us will face, either for ourselves or our children.

According to a 2017 survey from TheKnot.com, the average cost of a wedding is a whopping $33,391! If you pay for a wedding on credit, the saying “Something borrowed, something blue” becomes all too true. So how can you pay for that dream wedding and not go into debt? Follow these simple steps ahead of time so there is no stress during the wedding planning.

Step 1— SET A BUDGET. The costs of a wedding can add up quickly, from the hefty price of a venue and flowers to catering and a band. Make a list of everything you want to spend money on and shop around for the best deal. Some venues offer discounts for an atypical wedding day, such as a weekday or a holiday.

Step 2— WORK OUT HOW MUCH TO SAVE EACH MONTH. Once you’ve set a budget and worked out all the costs, figure out how much you will need to save per month and for how long. Be realistic about what you can achieve and afford. Saving in smaller chunks will seem less daunting than that big number you are working toward. If you have to save for five years to afford the $50,000 wedding you want, you might want to reconsider and see where you can cut costs.

Step 3— GET STARTED. The sooner you begin, the more manageable the cost will be. At Progress Bank, we offer several ways to save. Make a habit of negotiating with your cell phone and cable companies each year for a better deal. Consider whether you need Netflix, Amazon Prime, Birchbox or Spotify or if they are merely a want that you can sacrifice in order to have the wedding you desire Step 5— GET RID OF LITTLE SPENDING HABITS THAT ADD UP. Have you heard of the latte factor? It’s that quick cup of coffee you get at Starbucks at five dollars a pop per day or that $10-15 lunch instead of packing a sandwich for work. Limit the amount of thoughtless spending you do and soon you’ll see extra room for your wedding budget.

Step 6— KEEP SAVING. Getting into the savings habit now is something that will translate well into the rest of your married life.

Having a savings account dedicated to a down payment on your first house, special vacations, children’s education, or travel is a good idea and will help make saving more fun. With a little planning and help from your Progress banker, you can have the wedding of your dreams without going into debt for it. And wouldn’t that be a less stressful way to start off your married life?

I also like the variety of work. Even though environmental law is a fairly specialized area, there are several different subsets within this practice area and every day is different.

Hopes Continued smart growth in Birmingham. I have enjoyed the revitalization of the downtown area over the last ten years and hope it continues. I especially love Railroad Park and the new trails connecting communities that encourage and enable people to get outside and enjoy this beautiful city.

I am challenged to continuously learn, improve processes and deliver value, which makes each day exciting and fulfilling. The most rewarding part is collaborating with other team members around the world who share common goals of serving our customers and driving sales. In addition, I am honored to work for a company that is committed to giving back to the community, and I share this goal through my work with the Junior League of Birmingham and the YWCA of Central Alabama.

Hopes It has been exciting to see the renaissance of downtown Birmingham, which has added to the city’s thriving cultural experience. In particular, I appreciate Birmingham’s culinary scene, which continues to gain recognition with its awardwinning chefs. I am a huge fan of Dolester Miles’ coconut pecan cake! I hope that the city will continue this positive momentum, and I am proud to call Birmingham my home.

Motivation There are not many organizations where people who want to help improve their community can work on big, systemic problems in a sustained way. In my position, I get to consider not only the needs of a specific population or a particular service industry, but I have the luxury of being able to think about what is needed by our community as a whole. I am honored to be a part of an organization that has both the capacity to think creatively about solutions to our biggest community problems and the resources to direct funds at the most promising strategies.

Hopes Birmingham has a lot to be proud of, and we know how to accomplish a great deal with limited resources. But we have to first believe in ourselves and collectively commit to improving the quality of life for all our citizens. There is tremendous disparity here between those who have education and opportunity, and those who don’t. I believe our viability as a region is connected to our commitment to ensuring equity of opportunity for all.

Ashley Rhea Attorney, Rhea Law LLC

Motivation My firm primarily represents individuals with disabilities who have encountered discrimination in the workplace or at school.

I feel a personal connection to many of my clients because I have a physical disability. Many times, I have experienced very similar circumstances. I love empowering my clients to assert their rights under the law.

Hopes I hope that Birmingham can continue building an inclusive community for individuals with disabilities. We have many great nonprofit organizations that serve the disabled community. At the same time, we do not provide reliable services such as public transportation that individuals with disabilities disproportionately rely on. We need to make inclusive initiatives a priority.

Motivation The most rewarding part of my job is the relationships that I have built through the years. I have been in banking for almost 15 years and have been a part of my customers most exciting life events. Everything from weddings, buying a new house to starting a new business. Being able to experience these milestones with each of them is something that I am grateful for.

Hopes I moved here in 2005 after I graduated from Alabama and I have watched Birmingham experience tremendous growth in that short amount of time. The renewal of downtown has been one of the most exciting things to see. Birmingham is somewhere that I am proud to say that I work and live. I hope that our city continues down this exciting path of revitalization and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Birmingham.

Motivation The opportunity to speak for people who cannot speak for themselves against large corporations is the most rewarding aspect of my position as an attorney for Farris, Riley & Pitt. Individual voices matter and can effectuate change. I have been fortunate enough to be involved in litigations where unsafe products were ultimately removed from the market. Knowing that I have played some role in that process is an incredible feeling.

Hopes I am so thrilled with the growth of the downtown and surrounding areas and I hope that continues. As part of that, I hope Birmingham works with established businesses to help them continue their successes and also provide incentives for new industries to locate here. Keeping talented individuals in Birmingham is a necessity. Finally, I hope that Birmingham citizens get involved in their communities. Everyone should feel like they have a role in making Birmingham one of the top Southern cities.
