Make this Year Your Year >>> By: Mandy Moseley from Three15 Studio
Every year, one of the most common questions asked in January is “What is your New Year’s Resolution”? Many of us begin the new year with lofty aspirations of turning over a new leaf and recreating ourselves in one way or another, but, unfortunately, over 80% of us fail at this by February. So the question should be, how do we create a New Year’s Resolution that sets us up for success instead of failure?
#1. BE REALISTIC If you are someone who eats out every day and your resolution is to eat healthy meals at home moving forward, your odds of making this happen are probably not so high. A more realistic goal would be to eat a healthy meal at home 3 days a week. It is important not to change so much that it feels like a punishment. Your New Year’s Resolutions should be goals to better yourself and those can look very different from person to person.
#2. MAKE A SPECIFIC GOAL It is no secret that January is the busiest time for exercise studios and that is because the #1 New Year’s Resolution is to exercise more. As simple as that may sound, after a few weeks it can become less and less motivating to continue on this new path. One of the ways to keep yourself motivated is to define a specific goal like running a 5k or 10k or even a half-marathon. Hold yourself accountable by finding a race that looks fun and exciting (maybe even an out of town race). If you go ahead and sign up for a race and pay the money, you are more likely to hold yourself accountable.
#3. PROGRESS COUNTS Sometimes we are motivated by smaller accomplishments. A great idea is to set small goals along the way. If you write them down and allow yourself some type of reward each time you accomplish those goals, it can help keep your motivation high. For instance, make a deal with yourself that once you can run 2 miles without stopping, then you can purchase yourself a new pair of running shoes.
ABOUT
#4. DON’T JUST FOCUS ON THE EXERCISE Another mistake that is commonly made is to focus solely on exercising more. Although this is a great addition to anyone’s regimen, we must not forget the importance that food and other factors play into our healthy equation. Try and remember how important it is to add more fruits and vegetables into your daily routine. Another great option would be to take 15-30 minutes each day to focus on something to better yourself. Exercise, eating healthier and taking time for yourself are all great options when trying to decide how to be your best you in 2018.
At the end of the day, we are all fighting the same daily battles, eat better, exercise more, spend time with our families and try to find some time in there to contribute to our personal growth. So take a minute to reflect on the good in 2017 and think of ways you can build off of that in 2018. Try to set yourself up for success in this New Year and try to come up with a resolution that embodies that, even if it as simple as being your best you this year!

>>> I have a huge crush on someone who I met about 6 months ago. The person doesn’t know, and I have a feeling he has no interest in me. I’m also dating someone else who I do like a lot. But I’m becoming obsessed with this other guy even though my logic says he’s not that into me. Do I follow my heart or my head?
>>> The holidays are always tough because my parents are divorced, and really don’t like each other. I’m also newly engaged. He comes from a very stable loving family, and my family has so much drama and conflict going on. How do I manage my insecurities during all of these family get-togethers?
I suppose I’m not sure which is your heart and which is your head! Obsessions have a funny way of ruining really amazing relationships and leaving you heart-broken and alone! Be cautious of your “obsessive compulsive” and/or addictive personality characteristics. There is the possibility you are obsessing because the current relationship isn’t the right relationship or isn’t fulfilling enough to stand the test of time. Have you considered just taking a chance and asking the crush about his interest in you or just talking to the guy you are interested in about life, love, etc.? Maybe you would have a better gauge on any possible interest before you make a decision on the current dating partner. If you continue to have obsessive thoughts about the crush, it is probably time to do a lot of self-reflection about who you are dating. Dating serves an actual purpose. It is to help us determine the right fit for us for a long-term partner. It is meant to help us understand the things we find important in a partner. Just because you are dating someone doesn’t mean you need a “good reason” to get out of the relationship. You CAN just stop dating. Maybe you need to figure out if what you “like a lot” about your current dating partner is enough for something long-term.
Embrace the LOVE and STABILITY!!! Many families have drama, and many times it shines brighter during the holiday season! It is the unfortunate part of not being able to choose the family in which we are born. You are engaged now, and you will begin establishing a family and traditions of your own choosing. This is the time to release those insecurities because they no longer have to “define” who you are. Your future hubby needs to know what he’s going into with this marriage, but the two of you now get to choose how much of that drama you want to embrace and how much you want to avoid! Consider yourself lucky...you will now have a family you may choose to spend time with who doesn’t bring about quite the stress and anxiety I sense your biological family provides. I’m not suggesting you disown or disregard your own family, but maybe it is the perfect time to limit that interaction to establish your “new” family traditions! If you’d like to ask an anonymous question to Dr. Misty, please email it to: info@abouttown.io

DIAMONDS One of the questions that we often get asked the most is how to purchase a diamond. Whether it be for an engagement, an anniversary gift, a mother’s day gift or just because, we completely understand how daunting it can be to find just the right one – and also know that you are getting a quality diamond. Let’s start with addressing what the industry refers to as “the 4 C’s.”
C U T, C O L O R , C L A R I T Y & C A R A T S CUT Cut is the most important of the 4 C’s because it can have the greatest effect on a diamond’s beauty. Diamonds are known for their “sparkle” because of their many facets, how they are proportioned and their overall finish. A poorly cut diamond will not capture the light as well and will look dull and grayish. The more precise the cut, the more captivating the diamond will be.
CO LO R Probably one of the most subjective of the four C’s is diamond color. Generally speaking, the less color there is in a diamond, the higher the color grade will be. A diamond sparkles best when there is less color within the body of the stone.
C A R AT S Contrary to popular belief, carats refer to the actual weight of the diamond, not the size. Diamonds are measured in grams with a one-carat diamond weighing 1/5 of a gram. Carats also indicate the “spread” of the diamond, which is how the diamond is measured across the top in millimeters. When purchasing a quality diamond, you want to ensure that the total spread of the diamond looks like what it should weigh.
FINAL THOUGHTS Having a good basic understanding of the 4 C’s when purchasing a diamond is key. Fine jewelry is very personal and you should always be able to look at your diamond and treasure it each time you wear it. We encourage our customers to take their time when making their selection. It is one of the most important moments of your life - enjoy the process!
CLARITY The term clarity when viewing a diamond is ensuring that what you are purchasing is “eye clean.” This means that the diamond does not show any inclusions or imperfections that are visible to the naked eye without magnification. It is quite rare to purchase a flawless diamond, so always ask to see where the inclusions are located within the stone.
