Project 2 - North-West Cambridge Eddington Masterplan Redevelopment
• This task conducted throughout my second year of my architecture degree studies involved re-creating a masterplan development for the north-west Cambridge Eddington scheme which opened to the public on the 9th September 2017. • The following are my proposed concepts and re-designed development. The road layouts and open areas have all been devised upon inspiration from the unique qualities of the landscaping around Cambridge. This particularly relates to the significant presence of courtyards and vast greenspaces largely located within the Cambridge University Campuses scattered across the city. • The building typologies and contents of the site such as the residences, communal areas, greenspaces, superstore and school have all been retained however the formation and layouts of the structures, pathways, public areas and roads have all been revised.

Proposed Site Plan & Analysis Proposed primary school: located North of the site to create sufficient separation space between the school site and the remaining residential sector.
Library: with learning resources, study spaces, communal spaces, private residences allocated for professors, teachers and staff members.
Here a dead-end road and car park is proposed to be especially allocated to the school site. Additionally, multiple connecting pathways allow for easy access on foot.
High Class Private Residential sector: to contain apartments finished to the highest standard and furnished to the finest quality and bespoke styles. Only indented for private occupants.
Tier 3 Residential Sector: High class accommodation for students only. Sector to contain communal spaces, cafes & lounges for user convenience and leisure.
Tier 1: Residential Sector: Basic student accommodation available at the lowest price compared to that of other residences onsite.
Tier 2 Residential Sector: Average yet well-furnished student accommodation with a variety apartment selection. Sector to contain communal spaces and recreational spaces.
Local superstore: proposed for residents and members of the general public.
Public residential sector: not available for students intended only for private letting. To be purposely isolated and situated away from remaining site sectors which shall be primarily utilized by students. Also, to contain communal spaces, lounges, café’s, sports and recreational facilities.
Masterplan Site Proposal
North overview of site
Utilizing Rhino 3D, I began creating massing studies of the structures and forms I wished to present on site. From this I have developed it further by conveying my finalized concept and layout for each sector on site. My intentions regarding the aesthetics of my scheme were to establish an ornate yet robust and rigid form for each of the structures created within the masterplan. This would include multiple instances of repetition and variation with the addition of platforms being offset allowing space for viewing. I have also incorporated underpasses and overhead walkways connecting neighboring structures whilst allowing pedestrian access underneath. These features are evident throughout the plan as shown particularly in the render above and the bottom left render displaying the school. Another aspect I have incorporated within my design is courtyards and outdoor recreation for all areas of the site. In my opinion it is essential to provide sufficient natural greenspace for the freedom and wellbeing of residents, students, children, shoppers and members of the public walking by.

Local Building Typologies
Working design concepts created from digital modelling (Rhino)
Initial Concepts My approach to the concept stage of this project was to distinctly represent the themes of Wealth and Luxury within my design, which have been raised in the manifesto. Therefore, I intended on designing for those who obtain these values. I proposed to utilize the method of a perfricated design to produce a scheme whereby every user could equally benefit from the initial structural layout. With this consideration, a 'formula' shall be applied to establish re-occurring architectural features, fusing an endoskeleton with an exoskeleton. This shall display an ordered arrangement of patterns to form an overall aesthetic that is both functional and visually appealing. Furthermore, the concept exhibits an extensive podium (following page) that is reflective of the site and beneficial the public and users. This merges with ground floor of the structure which mostly consists of supporting columns/ facades to free the space beneath for pedestrian circulation.
Final Design Proposal
This podium layout is designed for both occupants of the building to utilize as well as the public. Providing efficient access to either end of the site via an underpass and elevated platforms for those who may wish to enjoy a pleasant view of the site. Overall, this scheme intents to create a vibrant public atmosphere in addition to being an aesthetically pleasing and effective point of access and congregation for residents.
