The AssisTkids Specialised Equipment Library gives children with disability the opportunity to trial and hire therapeutic equipment that supports their development. With support from their primary therapy team, children build the skills and confidence they need for home and everyday life.
This unique library service ensures young children can access the right equipment - at the right time - to achieve their individual goals. Once returned, every item is thoroughly cleaned and carefully prepared for the next child to use.
AssisTkids provides
Specialised equipment – clean and safe
Every piece of equipment is safety-checked, cleaned and maintained to the highest standard before being re-issued. The AssisTkids team includes therapists specialising in Assistive Technology and Early Childhood Development, supported by qualified technicians and experienced therapy assistants. If any repairs or maintenance are needed, we’ll take care of it during the hire period.
Clinical support
Some equipment can be complex to choose, adjust or set-up. AssisTkids draws on the expertise of our experienced therapists and therapy assistants to ensure a safe and comprehensive trial, set-up and handover process.
Access to other Ability WA therapists/services

Eligibility
AssisTkids supports Western Australian children aged 0-9 with developmental delay or disability, providing services to both NDIS and non-NDIS families across the Perth metropolitan area.
If you live in a regional area and would like to access AssisTKids with your local therapy team, please submit an enquiry and we will do our best to support your request.
AssisTkids also encourages therapists and families to investigate alternate funding options for long term equipment use.
Hire costs
AssisTkids holds a highly valued and specialised equipment inventory. Hire fees may be waived (funded by Telethon) for those without or awaiting funding. If your child has NDIS funding with specified hire funds, these will be utilised. Each child will be considered on a case-by-case basis with hire costs ranging from $10 to $100 per week.
Accessing AssisTkids
Whether you are a parent or therapist, you are new to assistive technology equipment, or a confident assistive technology prescriber, we want to make it easier for you to access the library. At any stage, our supportive AssisTKids team will guide you to the equipment your child requires to reach their next critical milestone.
We’ve organised the library items into three categories, based on who is best placed to hand over the assistive technology. This approach, in line with the Therapeutic Goods Administration requirements, ensures families can access and use the equipment safely and with confidence.
• CATEGORY A: Low risk/Therapy Assistant handover
• ‘Off the shelf’ or items requiring minimal adjustment.
• Simple orientation and handover.
• CATEGORY B: Medium risk/Therapist handover
• The therapist must be confident and familiar with the equipment.
• CATEGORY C: High risk/Specialist Therapist and/or Technician handover
• Highly specialised assistive technologyy where there is a risk of injury or reduced performance if the equipment is not set-up and handed over with the correct adjustments, guidance and monitoring.
• Where possible, an AssisTkids Clinical Lead therapist should be involved.
Categories A and B equipment can be requested using the ‘Brief Clinical Handover Form’. This is relevant for lower risk and simpler pieces of equipment or for therapists who are confident equipment prescribers and familiar with the service. Category C equipment requires the ‘Full Clinical Handover Form’. This form can also be utilised if you require additional support with the prescription or need assistance with managing risk.
