positions graduates

The world is changing. ACU understands that. We know our graduates have to be critical thinkers, adept problem solvers and thoughtful leaders. They must be prepared to adapt to rapid change—in their professions and in their lives.

Outstanding alumni ACU has produced phenomenal graduates since our doors opened in 1906. Some of them include: Annika Johansson (’06), a cast member on the national tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera Dr. Marcus Nelson (’94), nationally sought-after education speaker; assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction with the Judson ISD, one of the fastest-growing school districts in Texas Wes Kittley (’81), head track and field coach at Texas Tech University; his 1983–99 teams at ACU won 29 NCAA national team championships Lance Barrow (’77), 10-time Emmy Award-winning coordinating producer of football and golf for CBS Sports Wilbert Montgomery (’77), assistant coach for the Baltimore Ravens; former all-pro running back and NFL Offensive Player of the Year for the Philadelphia Eagles Michael Blanton (’74), award-winning record producer and manager of recording artists such as Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith Ted Poe (’70), former Harris County, Texas, judge; member of the United States House of Representatives Dr. Janice Massey (’68), professor of neurology, Duke University Medical Center

Sean Adams (BBA ’94, MBA ’98)

Matthew Wallace (’00)

Radio co-host, author and sportswriter Sean Adams found some of his toughest competition at ACU, both as a track and field athlete and student.

Matt Wallace remembers an ACU professor, Dr. Kent Smith, teaching on vocation. “He gave us this definition: ‘… the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet,’ ” Matt recalls. “I serve in the Dry Bones ministry because I believe I’ve found my vocation.”

“I competed at a national level, becoming a multiple-time NCAA all-American,” he says. “From a life perspective, I competed with and for people who had my soul and my athletic prowess as their priority. All while I was getting a top-shelf education.” Sean parlayed his experiences and education into a gratifying career. “Helping athletes leverage their college experience is close to me,” he says. “Talking openly about race, motivation, success and potential – framing it with a faith perspective that makes everyone want to do more – is the most rewarding part of my work.”

Co-director Dry Bones Denver (Denver, Colorado)

Dry Bones, named for a passage in Ezekiel 37, ministers to Denver’s homeless youth and young adults. “They call themselves street kids, gutter punks and even throw-aways,” Matt says. “All of them are searching for life-sustaining hope. We try to share that hope at Dry Bones. “ACU prepared me for the work I’m doing now by providing opportunities for growth. I received a quality education from amazing professors and had unique opportunities outside the classroom. I was challenged to see the world with new eyes and to engage.”

S Randy Brewer (’93)

April Anthony (’89)

Randy Brewer’s production company, Revolution Pictures, has garnered some of the top honors in the music business: a Video of the Year award from the Academy of Country Music for Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats.” A CMT Breakout Video of the Year award for Underwood’s “Jesus, Take the Wheel.” And, most recently, Female Video of the Year from the MTV Music Video Awards for Taylor Swift’s “You Belong With Me.”

A graduate of ACU’s College of Business Administration (COBA), April Anthony heads Encompass Home Health, a company providing home healthcare services to more than 125,000 patients across the Southwest. Its mission, to deliver “a better way to care,” applies to clients as well as to Encompass’ employees through its unique corporate culture.

Founder and Producer Revolution Pictures, Inc. (Nashville, Tennessee)

ACU gave him his start in video production. As a student, he created video yearbooks and Welcome Week videos, among other projects. Now he regularly hires ACU students to intern with his company. “I tell them to remember who they are and what they learned at ACU,” he says, “and then to go be whatever that is where they work in the industry.”

Chief Executive Officer Encompass Home Health (Dallas, Texas)

Over the last several years, ACU has been Encompass’ number one source of new hires. “COBA graduates come to us with a strong business foundation but also with a heart for our mission,” April says. “These abilities are fostered by the principals of leadership and service that they were taught at ACU. Their education elevates them from just smart and talented young minds to people of character who can join a character-driven organization and immediately succeed.”
