Welcome to the 2025 EIM Auction Celebration! The members of this year’s leadership team and committees have been working hard to put together this event. Designing, planning, producing, and now executing the 2025 auction has been one of the most educational and rewarding experiences during our time at Cal Poly.
With this year’s theme of “EIM’s Magic Revealed: Elevate. Inspire. Motivate.,” our department will display the ways that the students, faculty and alumni in the EIM department have grown over the past few years and give attendees an inside look at what makes our department so extraordinary Through the process of submitting requests for proposals, analyzing bids, developing a budget, soliciting high-quality auction items, creating social media marketing campaigns, developing brand guidelines and designing tonight’s experiencewe have gained a deeper understanding of what it means to “Learn by Doing.”

Broo lumna of the EIM department, has made significant cont uring her time at Cal Poly and post-graduation. Before grad nagement concentration, Brooke immersed herself in many pp y M department and the local wedding community in San Luis Obispo. She recognized the significance of the university’s Learn by Doing philosophy and participated in Open House, Quiz Bowl, managing the EIM Jobs Blog and EIM social media platforms, and working in Cal Poly’s Conference & Event Planning department. One of her more memorable experiences was the three years she served on the EIM Auction Celebration planning committee.
Brooke completed an extended internship at Pebble Beach Golf Links where she planned and executed world class events like the AT&T Pro Am Golf Tournament and Food and Wine Event Following her time at Pebble Beach, she went on to work at the San Luis Obispo Golf and Country Club as their Banquet & Events Manager.
In 2020, Brooke founded Brooke Nicole Events, a luxury full-service wedding planning company based in San Luis Obispo. Her weddings have been recognized in magazines like The Knot and California Wedding Day and other globally recognized wedding blogs. She is renowned for designing elegant and memorable events, reflecting her passion and expertise in event planning and management
Brooke has maintained strong ties with her alma mater, actively contributing to the development of future industry professionals. She is a frequent guest lecturer in EIM classes and employs numerous EIM students as interns and event assistants. For the past two years, Brooke has served as the alumni mentor for the EIM Auction Celebration, collaborating with students to guide them in planning the annual fundraiser. Her mentorship has been instrumental in forming connections with new industry partners and enhancing the learning experiences of students on the EIM Auction Celebration committee. Her journey from a dedicated student to a successful entrepreneur and mentor exemplifies the impact of Cal Poly’s educational philosophy and the strength of its alumni network.

shed alumnus of the Experience Industry graduating from the program in 2019. After evin dove head first into doing anything and everything the department had to offer. He served on the board of both EIM Club and Rho Phi Lambda, helping to plan the 2019 EIM Career Fair. Taking advantage of two different study abroad opportunities, Kevin travelled to both Costa Rica and Kenya during his time at Cal Poly.
After graduation, Kevin began working at Old San Luis BBQ to assist with weddings and events. He has since been promoted to Catering Manager at Old San Luis BBQ, assisting with nearly 1000 events and serving hundreds of couples on their big wedding day. Kevin continues to partner with the EIM department, hiring dozens of Cal Poly students and providing learning opportunities in the field during their time at Cal Poly. This partnership includes hiring a full-time intern from the EIM department in 2021.
Through Old San Luis BBQ, Kevin has been able to partner with countless non-profits to give back to the community and catering events to raise money for local causes. In addition to his work at Old San Luis BBQ and with the EIM Department, Kevin also serves on the board of directors for People’s Kitchen of San Luis Obispo to provide a hot noon meal to the hungry 364 days of the year.

The vision of the Experience Industry Management Department is to cultivate leaders and innovators in industries that promote healthy lifestyles, protect memorable places and facilitate life-enhancing experiences for individuals, communities and the global society.
Our Students
With over 400 students in our academic major and minor, the Experience Industry Management Department is growing year after year. During their time in the department, students are required to complete 1,000 hours of paid or volunteer service in the experience industry plus a 10-week, 400-hour internship prior to graduation. Our students embody Cal Poly’s “Learn by Doing” philosophy both in and outside of the classroom.
Our Alumni
EIM graduates go to work as global event strategy managers, event designers for employee experiences at companies such as LinkedIn, professional sports teams, and with hospitality, tourism and recreation organizations at esteemed locations and destinations throughout the world The list of past EIM honored alumni award recipients on pages 35-36 of this program display the wide variety of places that our alumni are working today.

Experience Innovation Lab
In 2023, we launched our Experience Innovation Lab in the William and Linda Frost Center for Research and Innovation. The lab was made possible by generous donations from George P. Johnson, Visit SLO CAL and the Seawell family. The Experience Innovation Lab is a space for EIM students to collaborate with faculty and students in other disciplines as well as industry partners like George P. Johnson and Visit SLO CAL to solve the experience industry’s complex needs and to anticipate disruptors within the event, travel, hospitality, sport, recreation and experience marketing and design space.

This year’s Fund-in-Need is dedicated to furthering the education of students in the EIM Department through funding field trips, conference travel and “Learn by Going” experiences From a site visit to The Allegretto, attending the Visit California Outlook Forum, and completing a military obstacle course in order to deepen students’ understanding of facilitation and team building, the “Learn by Going” philosophy is integral to EIM students’ educational experience. However, these experiences do not come without a cost. To further the opportunities that we are able to offer students outside of the classroom, the EIM faculty have created the “Learn by Going” fund. Donations made to this fund will go directly towards educational activities outside of the classroom.
