Digital Media Challenge 2026

Task 1: Take a trio of digital photographs with the same subject in the same pose and locations but taken from different angles or at different times of the day. Ensure that the images have visual interest. Prompt: Decay

For my submission for Task 1, I chose to explore the theme of "Decay" through a botanical lens by photographing a potted Cereus cactus on a windowsill. To meet the assignment criteria, I kept the location, subject, and setup completely identical across all three frames, but I dynamically shifted my camera angles to build visual interest and alter how the light hits the plant. In the left and right shots, I used high-angle, top-down perspectives to focus heavily on the dry, cracked soil and the weathered, corking textures developing at the base of the main stalk. For the center shot, I pulled back into a side-angle profile view, which was a deliberate choice to clearly reveal a completely withered, dead brown stem standing right next to the surviving cactus, providing a stark, direct contrast that visually grounds the entire concept of decay.

Task 2: Create an original fashion sketch/ croquis that showcases a particular colour theory. Prompt: Crown

This original fashion croquis explores the theme "Crown" by merging royal symbolism with a complementary color theory of purple and gold to maximize visual impact. By pairing these two hues, which sit directly opposite each other on the color wheel, the design achieves the highest possible visual contrast, making the rich violet silk skirt and the metallic gold elements appear exceptionally vibrant. Structured onto a runway template, the garment features an architectural bodice with sharp, crown-like spikes that frame the face, while a voluminous, cascading purple train evokes the dramatic weight of a traditional royal coronation robe.

Task 3: Develop an original comic strip/ cartoon showing cybersecurity. It does not have to be funny and can reflect any aspect of Internet safety/ Digital citizenship. It should not be more than 4 panels long. Prompt: Void

For Task 3, I developed a four-panel comic strip that explores cybersecurity and digital citizenship through the theme of the "Void," illustrating how easily personal data can be sucked into the dark, anonymous expanses of the internet. The narrative opens with a relatable scenario of a girl casually uploading what she believes is a completely harmless social media post, but panel three quickly introduces a turning point by zooming in on an easily overlooked detail, a work ID badge circled in red, to emphasize that all it takes is one slip-up. I concluded the strip by shifting to the perspective of a dark, faceless silhouette viewing a screen compiled with the girl's private information, physically embodying the internet's predatory "void" to deliver a powerful warning about how effortlessly a stranger can track your real life from a single innocent mistake.

Task 4: Recreate a magazine ad where repetition is applied. Show the original ad and your recreation side by side. Prompt: Stitches

By studying the original Oscar Mayer "Scramblers" ad on the left, I mirrored its distinct visual strategy; stacking misspelled, scrambled variations of a word vertically to catch the reader's eye, only resolving it with the correct spelling on the very last line. For my recreation on the right, I adapted this playful concept to a crafting brand, choosing a deep green background to contrast with bold, lime-green typography that reads through scrambled iterations like Sictthes, Sithctes, and Stcithes before cleanly landing on Stitches. At the bottom center, I anchored the design with a vector graphic of a ball of yarn to represent "Abigail Campbell Filament," matching the original ad's product placement, and tied it all together with a small, red logo accent in the bottom right corner to complete the commercial aesthetic.

Task 5: Create a minimalist business card for a school club, real or imagined. List yourself as president and include the club motto/ slogan as well as an email address. Pay keen attention to the composition of the piece and ensure that positive or negative space is used. Prompt: Whisper

5

Task 6: Annotate an image of a well-known animated character to say how the colour combination and shape theory has been used to impact the audience in a certain way. Prompt: Moonlight

6

Task 7: Design an emblem/ logo showing Caribbean culture and using a circle, square or triangle. Include the name of the country/ countries and images of that country’s flag along with other inspirational images in a mood board. Prompt: Mirror

For my submission for Task 7, I designed a circular emblem that celebrates Jamaican culture while directly executing the geometric and thematic requirements of the brief. Utilizing a circle as my foundational shape, I interpreted the prompt "Mirror" by splitting the emblem horizontally into a perfectly symmetrical landscape where a vibrant tropical sunrise, complete with a palm tree and birds, reflects flawlessly onto the calm blue water below. Beneath the graphic, I anchored the logo with the country name "JAMAICA" stylized in a curved banner that incorporates the bold green, black, and gold colors of the national flag. To ground my creative process, I put together an accompanying mood board that highlights the island's natural beauty, showcasing lush mountains, tropical flora, coastal sunsets, and the Jamaican

flag itself, which served as the direct color and atmospheric inspiration for the final design.
