From A&K’s very first journeys, we saw the importance of working in partnership with the places we visited, and of repaying hospitality with the kind of support that empowers communities to thrive. Our pioneering style of luxury adventure evolved hand in hand with a philanthropic model centered on local engagement and collaboration. We are proud to present this report demonstrating how these efforts have made a difference in countless lives in the past year.

The hardest part of building communities isn’t building a clinic or launching a school lunch program — it’s ensuring those efforts take root and last. That’s the standard we hold ourselves to at A&K Philanthropy. Our mission isn’t to deliver aid and move on. It’s to work alongside our partner communities until the conditions for lasting change are in place.

Across more than 25 countries, our 17 full-time community development professionals – we call them “Impact Managers” – guide a process that is inclusive and deeply relational. From Peru to Kenya, Cambodia to Egypt, they broker relationships between community members, local organizations and government ministries — making sure everyone has skin in the game.

Whether it is shipping more than 1,500 bicycles to empower women entrepreneurs in Zambia and Uganda or feeding nourishing lunch to more than 7,000 schoolchildren in East Africa, our programs make a tangible difference within communities, families and individuals. It is a difference we see in businesses that bring new financial security to their communities. Classrooms stocked with brand-new supplies and filled with students eager to learn.

The healthy, beaming smiles of children who now have access to safe drinking water throughout their day. Sights like these are as satisfying and nourishing to us as any natural wonder or artistic masterpiece, one of the truest rewards a life in travel can bring.

In practice, that means school communities supplying the food for their own lunch programs. Health ministries staffing the clinics we help build. It means shared responsibility, not dependence. Equity, not charity.

Many of our travellers witness this firsthand: stepping off the path to visit a project, helping deliver lunch at a school, sharing a laugh with some of the women entrepreneurs running their own business.

Those encounters have a way of staying with people. They are a reminder that travel, at its best, can be more than extraordinary places — it can be genuine human connection.

We have always believed that travel done right is a force for good and an agent of positive change. AKP proves it, one donation at a time, one changed life at a time.

OUR WORK

A&K founder Geoffrey Kent pioneered the community-first approach to conservation more than 60 years ago. Today, we still believe that the best way to protect our planet’s remaining wilderness is to invest in the communities who live there.

In alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, our projects focus on education, enterprise, health and environment.

Through these initiatives, we aim to support, empower and educate local communities to facilitate the protection of their surroundings, and to ensure that the people in the places where we travel also benefit directly from tourism.

AKP programming now spans 27 countries on all seven continents, positively impacting hundreds of thousands of lives and helping preserve some of the world’s most precious ecosystems as we continue to celebrate travel as a force for good.

OUR TEAM

Our Impact Managers AKP employs 17 full-time community development professionals around the world. These on-the-ground managers work collaboratively in the communities where our projects operate, which allows AKP to maintain strong relationships, oversight of project implementation and the ability to scale quickly in some of the most rural, isolated regions of the world.

$800,000 AKP shipped $800,000 worth of medical equipment and supplies to health facilities in Uganda and Zambia. Since we began our partnership with Project C.U.R.E., we have shipped $4 million worth of medical equipment and supplies.

7,288 7,288 students received a meal every day through AKP’s School Lunch Program in 2025, with a total of more than 34,000 children fed since the program’s inception in 2013.

6,464 6,464 additional students now have access to a LifeStraw Community filter during the school day. In total, 132,686 people are provided with clean drinking water through the Safe Water for Schools Initiative.

1,652 1,652 bikes were shipped to women-owned enterprises in Uganda and Zambia. Over 22,460 bikes have been shipped to enterprises in East and Southern Africa, Egypt and Jordan since the program’s launch.

Our Partners AKP operates at the “end of the road” in some of the most remote regions of the world. Given our long-term presence in these areas, when possible, we collaborate with mission-aligned partner nongovernmental organizations. Together, we promote economic development, protect and conserve the natural world and foster connection between travelers and local residents.

Through our partnerships, the value of every dollar donated is leveraged to achieve an exponentially greater impact.

FEATURED PROJECTS EDUCATION

Feeding Children in East Africa

HEALTH

School meal programs are crucial, as they promote regular school attendance and enhance students’ focus on their studies. The AKP School Lunch Program provides nutritious daily lunches at 16 schools.

What makes this initiative truly special is the strong partnership with the community everywhere the program is implemented. We provide the main meal and help cover the costs of hiring local cooks. In return, schools and families contribute by helping with the cooks’ salaries and supplying vegetables, beans and firewood for cooking.

Thanks to this collective effort and shared commitment, students receive daily nutritious and balanced meals.

In 2025, AKP served daily meals to approximately 7,300 children in rural schools located near national parks in Kenya, Namibia, Uganda and Zambia.

Expanding Education in Kenya

EDUCATION

Every child deserves access to quality education and a positive school experience. In Kenya’s Maasai Mara, AKP is fundamentally improving the environment where students learn. AKP has a longstanding relationship with Enkereri and Partakilat primary schools near Olonana Lodge, an A&K Sanctuary, in the Maasai Mara.

In 2025, we expanded our support to Pusanki Primary School. The school’s small library space was ill-equipped and in disrepair, making it a poor resource for learners. AKP constructed a new library and furnished it with over 1,110 books, along with new bookshelves, tables and chairs. Pusanki Primary School’s 440 students, kindergarten to 9th grade, are benefiting from this new learning resource.

During a dedication ceremony held in September, George Muchina, a local representative of the National Ministry of Education, highlighted the library’s impact and the importance of education for all Maasai students. He stated, “The issue of pulling girls out of schools to marry for dowries must stop,” marking a significant cultural shift. “As long as they are under 18, they are still children and should be in school.”

Creating Economic Opportunities for Women in Jordan

ENTERPRISE

The Mosaic Vocational Training Program in Petra was created to promote economic opportunity and cultural preservation for young women in Wadi Musa and surrounding villages, empowering them through the traditional art of mosaic-making.

Over six weeks, 40 women aged 18 to 35 received mosaic training.

The program concluded with the creation of a beautiful mosaic mural displayed near the Petra Visitor Center ticket window. Each participant is now equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to start her own small business or contribute to the local tourism market through her craft.

Though a dedicated meeting space doesn’t yet exist, many graduates sell their work at the local handicrafts market. Others have launched their own online platforms through social media to offer custom mosaic pieces. In a region where traditional values often limit women’s participation in the workforce, this program has initiated a social shift, allowing participants to build confidence, form new connections and engage more fully in their communities.

Revitalizing a Peruvian Amazon Community With Bio-Businesses

ENVIRONMENT

In 2025, AKP partnered with the Nueva Arica community in the Peruvian Amazon to support the development of bio-businesses focused on the sustainable production of punga fiber, aguaje fruit and honey. This initiative strengthens local livelihoods while promoting conservation of one of the world’s most biodiverse ecosystems. When blended with Pima cotton, punga fibers can create sustainable, high-quality threads for luxury fashion. The aguaje, a tropical palm native to South America, produces fruits that can be consumed raw or processed into beverages, soap, oils and other products. In Nueva Arica, harvesting is done by trained climbers who safely collect fruits without cutting down trees. This method helps preserve trees, which — as part of the Amazon ecosystem — can store three to five times as much carbon dioxide as other ecosystems, helping to maintain the forest’s critical role in climate regulation. The approach also supports biodiversity, as the climbers leave fruit on the trees for local wildlife. Previously, harvesting involved cutting down trees, resulting in landscape degradation and loss of genetic diversity.

The community is now welcoming visitors interested in learning about their culture and livelihoods. Residents share traditional knowledge, demonstrate sustainable harvesting techniques and showcase the products they make. These visits create an additional source of income while deepening community pride in their traditions and raising awareness about the importance of conserving the Amazon through community-driven, sustainable enterprises.
