The Neighborhood Martingança owes its name to the conjugation of two terms, Martina (Roman warrior deity, daughter of Mars) and Gansa (messenger bird of the Moon Goddess). So at first it would be Martingansa, but over time the toponym suffered metaplasms.

Martingança has made great progress, at the economic level, with the existence of a glass industry in the region, and with the natural progression in the communication pathways. Due to all this, and other conditions of development, Martingança was elevated to parish on 4 October 1985.

We find in the vicinity the Pataias Lagoon, an important mirror of water, situated on a migratory axis of aquatic birds.

The uniqueness of the ecosystem in the region is, in itself, a reason for visiting. In the surroundings we can find a walkway surrounding the mass of water, bird observatory, rest area and a small snack park.

It is located in a huge coastal area of white sandy beaches, of which stands out the Beach of Paredes da Vitória. This is identified with the Blue Flag, a certificate of environmental quality that distinguishes the effort of several entities in improving the marine and coastal environment. It is allocated during a bathing season to a given beach upon the verification of some minimum conditions and requirements.
