Women’s History Month takes place in March each year, celebrating women’s contributions to history, culture and society. The women artists featured here, including Vanessa Bell, Dame Elizabeth Blackadder and Anne Redpath, built successful careers at a time when far more opportunities existed for men than for women, and they all shared an interest in depicting still life.
Exhibition curated by Jessica Barrie, Art Curator, and Jenny Pape-Carlisle, History Curator.

Every year new objects enter Aberdeen Archives, Gallery & Museums’ collection. Through a combination of gifts, bequests, donations and purchases we continue to breathe new life and meaning into the collection, guided by our Collection Development Policy. This small display includes The Arctic Fox by Ann Bowes, which we purchased during the Aberdeen Artists Society exhibition at the Art Gallery in 2022.
