Hot Chocolate Challenge Holidays Calendar

This is something I always do with my class in December. It works brilliantly for classroom management for the last few weeks before the holidays.

Children can do this individually or it can be a whole class effort. The aim is to get points (usually for working hard and being kind) and each set of 10 points earns a reward.

10 points – cup

20 points – cup and hot chocolate

30 points – cup, hot chocolate and marshmallows

40 points – cup, hot chocolate, marshmallows and whipped cream

An bhfuilimid ag dul amach inniu?

Ba mhaith liom ___ a cheannach

Ba mhaith liom ___ a fháil

Ba mhaith liom dul go dtí an siopa

Start this calendar at the beginning of December. Children work in pairs to pick a fun activity e.g. extra yard/extra P.E./ watch a movie/no homework etc.

The children fold over their piece of paper and design a winter/Christmas scene on the front – then create a calendar and one nice thing is revealed each day.

Tips

Do focussed work in the morning/after break and then enjoy the build up in the afternoons.

Play calm/relaxing music when the children are working.
