ASSOCIATED BUILDERS AND CONTRACTORS CENTRAL FLORIDA CHAPTER
YOUR MONTHLY MAILER

As the 2023 Chair of the ABC CF Board, I would like to encourage members to participate in the annual Construction Expo to take advantage of the benefits of the ABC CF’s largest event of the year.
ABC is the voice of the merit shop in the construction industry and carries the responsibility of making that voice heard. Our organization is the single largest hub of construction industry leaders in Central Florida, and the Construction Expo showroom floor provides the largest platform to connect with your peers, grow your company, and add to your employee’s professional development.
With 1,400+ attendees each year, the Expo offers a huge opportunity for brand exposure. You can showcase past projects and the latest cutting-edge product offerings, show off past awards, provide hands-on demonstrations, and market your company with giveaways and face-to-face interactions.
The Expo also provides an opportunity to join with fellow industry peers to identify solutions to current problems such as supply shortages, rising material costs, labor shortages, workforce training, and more. You can also connect with ABC staff members, the Board of Directors, or committee members in the chapter to learn more about what ABC is doing for you and your company.
Companies are encouraged to join in friendly competition with each other through booth theming, all while being part of the biggest networking event of the year. This year, ABC is encouraging members to theme their booth around a celebration, as ABC is celebrating it’s 50th anniversary!
Additional advertising opportunities are also available outside of your own booth. By sponsoring welcome bags or lanyards, you can start gaining exposure right from the entrance. You can also add a door prize or raffle to connect with the winner for a one-on-one lunch after the event. Other sponsorship
opportunities include bar or food sponsorships, program ads, best booth award sponsorship, and more.
Booth locations for the event are awarded based on order of signup. Showcase that you are a serious player within the industry by signing up early and getting a prime spot at the event. You don’t want to miss out on the opportunity to expand your customer base, connect with ABC CF Members, and support free enterprise and the merit shop philosophy.
Booth selection of choice is exclusive to early bird registrations; all others will be assigned. You can register here: www.abccentralflorida.com/event/construction-expo/
I look forward to seeing everyone at the event!

CONSTRUCTION LAW

WINNING DISPUTES THROUGH PROPER PROJECT DOCUMENTATION
Construction liens allow contractors and subcontractors to perform their contractual obligations without the risk of being denied payment for materials supplied and services rendered. While receiving payment is certainly preferable to foreclosing a construction lien, recording a lien ensures access to legal remedies should it become necessary to pursue formal legal action. As such, the preparation of construction liens at the appropriate time is essential – particularly in connection with large-scale construction projects – and contractors and subcontractors must rely on experienced legal counsel to help them protect their ability to collect payment.
Areas of Focus
• Effective project documentation,
• General concepts,
• Categories of documents, and how they’re used to prove/disprove claims (the practical effect).
• Social media and litigation components

About the Instructor: Leanne Palmer is Board Certified in Construction Law by The Florida Bar. As an expert in construction law, she handles a wide spectrum of commercial construction-related matters representing owners, general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and design professionals, throughout all stages of a project. She has substantial litigation and trial experience that gives her a distinctive ability to better represent her clients on numerous matters. This includes assisting clients in contract claims, lien and bond claims, defect and design issues, payments disputes, bid protests, and delay claims. Leanne also has extensive experience in contract drafting and negotiation.
Leanne joined the firm in February 2013, not long after graduating valedictorian from law school, where she earned a record 14 book awards. She also served as Chief Justice of the Moot Court Honors Board and Associate Editor of Barry Law Review.
