nspiration can come in many forms, hearing a catchy song, seeing an impressive photo, or visiting a special place. In this edition we have taken our inspiration from the Mediterranean style we see all around us.

The fuchsia bougainvillea that graces many walls, the stone houses with colourful wooden shutters, and the sea-washed furniture you’ll find in many of the beautiful décor stores, which is now so in trend.

Capturing this authentic island style, to present you with the abundance of creativity and wonderful heritage that exists on Mallorca and our neighbouring islands, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera, was our main goal when creating the ‘Made in the Med’ theme.

The Menorca-based third generation shoemaker, Úrsula Mascaró, who has over 500 employees on the small island, as well as more than 90 stores worldwide, is the subject of a fascinating feature on page 58. You may be intrigued to know the incredible story behind the worldwide success of Mascaró’s Pretty Ballerinas brand.

Another favourite of ours is the story of a family run artisan textile company established in 1854, in the northern town of Pollensa. It is reinventing itself as not only a sought after manufacturer of textiles for home furnishings, but also as an exciting new fashion brand.

Urban Cool is the theme used in our fashion feature. We teamed up with the international model Nora Matisz, and the talented photographer Javi Saguillo, and took the shoot to the streets of Palma.

a inspiración puede llegar de diversas formas, escuchando una melodía pegadiza, mirando una foto impactante o visitando un lugar especial. En esta edición, nuestra inspiración proviene del estilo mediterráneo que vemos a nuestro alrededor: las buganvillas de color fucsia que adornan muchos muros, las casas de piedra con coloridas persianas de madera y los muebles de madera desgastada que encontrará en muchas de las hermosas tiendas de decoración y que ahora está tan de moda.

Nuestro propósito al crear el tema ‘Hecho en el Mediterráneo’ fue capturar el auténtico estilo de la isla, presentarle la fusión de creatividad y el maravilloso legado existente en Mallorca y nuestras islas vecinas, Menorca, Ibiza y Formentera.

La diseñadora de calzado Úrsula Mascaró, asentada en Menorca y líder de la tercera generación dedicada al oficio de la zapatería, tiene más de 500 empleados en la isla y más de 90 tiendas en todo el mundo (artículo en la página 58). Conozca la increíble historia que se esconde tras el éxito mundial de la marca Pretty Ballerinas, de Mascaró.

Otra de nuestras historias preferidas es la de una empresa de textiles hechos a mano, fundada en 1854 y administrada por una familia, en el pueblo de Pollensa. Se están reinventado a sí mismos, no sólo como fabricantes de textiles para el hogar, sino también como una nueva y atractiva marca de moda.

Urban Cool es el tema de nuestro editorial de moda. Nos juntamos con la modelo internacional Nora Matisz y el talentoso fotógrafo Javi Saguillo y salimos a fotografiar las calles de Palma. ¡No se pierda los consejos para conseguir una casa en la que disfrutar descalzo, en la página 88, con ideas de interiorismo que le permitirán crear un ambiente playero en su hogar! ¡El verano empieza aquí!

Unser Anliegen beim Thema ‘Made in the Med …’ war es, Ihnen die Vielfalt an Kreativität und das wunderbare Erbe vorzustellen, das Mallorca und die Nachbarninseln Menorca, Ibiza und Formentera aufweisen.

Die Schuhdesignerin Úrsula Mascaró, die schon dritte Generation einer auf Menorca ansäßigen Schusterfamilie, mit mehr als 500 Angestellten auf der kleinen Insel und mehr als 90 Geschäften auf der ganzen Welt, bildet das Thema eines faszinierenden Artikels auf Seite 58.

Ein anderer unserer Lieblingsartikel ist die Geschichte eines Familienbetriebs, der seit 1854 im nördlichen Dorf Pollença existiert und handgemachte Textilien herstellt. Die Firma findet eine neue Marktpräsenz, nicht nur als ein gefragter Fabrikant von Textilien für Hausmöbel, sondern auch als eine attraktive und neue Modemarke.

Pinko opens in Puerto Portals Renowned women’s Italian fashion house Pinko has opened another boutique on Mallorca, in the glamorous port of Puerto Portals. The marina is home to a host of superb fashion boutiques and Pinko is a welcome addition to its exciting retail offer.

Pinko’s outstanding designs – feminine and sexy, yet sophisticated – can now be found in their new boutique at Puerto Portals’ Local 84, formerly the location of Piluca Osaba. The premises have undergone a makeover that ensures maximum visibility for the port’s newest occupant. Pinko also has a boutique in the heart of Palma de Mallorca, in Carrer Sant Nicolau.

Los excepcionales diseños de Pinko son femeninos y sexys, a la vez que sofisticados, y ahora ya se pueden encontrar en el local número 84 de Puerto Portals, anterior ubicación de Piluca Osaba. El local se ha reformado por completo y ofrece ahora una mayor visibilidad para la marca. Pinko también dispone de una boutique en el corazón de Palma de Mallorca, en la calle Sant Nicolau.

Tolle Designermode von Pinko - feminin und sexy, jedoch gleichzeitig elegant - finden Sie nun auch an der neuen Adresse im Lokal 84 in Puerto Portals (vorher das Geschäft von Piluca Osaba). Damit der neueste Anwohner des Hafens gut sichtbar ist, wurden auch die Räumlichkeiten der Boutique neu gestaltet. Royal presence for new-look Tristán HRH The Infanta Doña Pilar de Borbon attended a prestigious charity lunch at newlook Tristán in Puerto Portals, in her capacity as president of the association Nuevo Futuro.

The impressive guest list for the occasion included the Mayor of Palma, Mateu Isern, with his wife; Carmen Fuster, president of the Mallorcan branch of Nuevo Futuro; Cecci Sandberg; gallerist Joan Guaita and fashion designer Mar Sobrón. It was a distinguished start for Grupo Tristán’s new season: Tristán is now one restaurant, totally redesigned and with a new menu of fine Mediterranean cuisine (with a few more Mallorcan touches) from renowned chef Gerhard Schwaiger.

Fue una ilustre inauguración para la nueva temporada del Grupo Tristán: Tristán se ha convertido ahora en un único restaurante, ha sido totalmente rediseñado y presenta una nueva carta de deliciosa cocina mediterránea (con más toques mallorquines) del conocido chef Gerhard Schwaiger.

Die beeindruckende Gästeliste hatte weitere „Kaliber“ zu bieten, unter anderen den Bürgermeister von Palma, Mateu Isem, mit Gattin. Ebenfalls anwesend waren Carmen Fuster, Präsidentin der MallorcaFiliale von „Nuevo Futuro“, Cecci Sandberg, Galerist Joan Guaita und Modeschöpferin Mar Sobrón. Ein wahrhaft würdiger Neustart für Grupo Tristan in die Sommersaison 2014: Tristán ist nun ein einziges Restaurant, vollständig neu designt und mit einer komplett neuen Speisekarte mit mediterranen – und einigen mallorquinischen - Köstlichkeiten vom zu Recht gefeierten Chefkoch Gerhard Schwaiger.

Claudio Vargas appointed chef at Royal Beach The stylish Royal Beach restaurant and bar on Playa de Muro has a new chef: Claudio Vargas is a Chilean, who played professional football in his native country until the sport lost him to gastronomy. His love of food stems from his great-grandparents and grandfather (who ran a chain of hotels and restaurants in Patagonia). After culinary training in Santiago, Claudio moved to Europe and opened the restaurant Essencia Art in Palma de Mallorca.

His creative cuisine was recognised with awards in TaPalma 2010 and TaPalma 2013.

Now he’s creating delicious lunches and dinners in the relaxed and stunning setting of Royal Beach.

CLAUDIO VARGAS, EL NUEVO CHEF DE ROYAL BEACH Royal Beach, el restaurante y bar en Playa de Muro tiene un nuevo chef: Claudio Vargas es chileno y era futbolista en su país de origen, hasta que la gastronomía lo alejó del deporte.

Ha heredado de sus bisabuelos y abuelo (quien era dueño de una cadena de hoteles y restaurantes en la Patagonia) su amor por la comida. Tras su training gastronómico en Santiago, Claudio decidió venir a vivir a Europa y abrió el restaurante Essencia Art en Palma de Mallorca. Sus creaciones fueron premiadas por TaPalma 2010 y 2013 y él es ahora la mente creativa que se esconde tras las ricas comidas y cenas del trendy Royal Beach.

Seine Liebe zum Essen stammt von seinen Urgroßeltern und seinem Großvater, der eine Hotel und Restaurantkette in Patagonia betrieb. Nach seiner Ausbildung zum Koch in Santiago, ging Claudio nach Europa und eröffnete in Palma de Mallorca das Restaurant Essencia Art. Seine kreative Küche gewann Auszeichnungen in TaPalma 2010 und TaPalma 2013.

Nun kreiert er köstliche Mittag-und Abendessen in der entspannten und atemberaubenden Kulisse des Royal Beach .

‘FOOD AND FOOT’ Mallorca’s renowned footwear and gastronomy have been incorporated into a unique photographic exhibition. ‘Food and Foot’ – the idea of culinary organisation Chefs(in) – features gastronomic interpretations of eight Mallorcan shoe brands by eight well-known chefs – including Tomeu Caldentey, Santi Taura, Joan Marc and Andreu Genestra. These were photographed by the award-winning Nando Esteva and are on display in the Museum of Shoe and Leather in Inca until May 25th. Thereafter the photographs will be exhibited in the restaurants of the respective chefs for two months. The photographs will ultimately be used in future international travel trade shows to promote Mallorca’s footwear and gastronomy.

‘FOOD AND FOOT’ Calzado y gastronomía de Mallorca se unen en una muestra fotográfica muy especial. ‘Food and Foot’, una original idea de la organización Chefs(in), presenta ocho interpretaciones gastronómicas hechas por distintos chefs mallorquines, tales como Tomeu Caldentey, Santi Taura, Joan Marc o Andreu Genestra en ocho zapatos de distintas marcas mallorquinas. Han sido fotografiados por el condecorado fotógrafo Nando Esteva. La exposición se puede visitar en el Museo del calzado y de la piel de Inca hasta el día 25 de mayo. A partir de esa fecha, las fotografías serán exhibidas en los restaurantes de los respectivos chefs durante dos meses. Las obras serán usadas posteriormente para promocionar la gastronomía y calzado mallorquín alrededor del mundo.

Diese wurden vom vielfach ausgezeichneten Nando Esteva fotografiert und sind bis zum 25. Mai im Schuh- und Ledermuseum in Inca ausgestellt. Anschließend werden die Fotografien in den Restaurants der jeweiligen Küchenchefs zwei Monate lang ausgestellt. Schlussendlich werden die Fotos für zukünftige internationale Verkaufsveranstaltungen genutzt um das Schuhwerk und die Gastronomie Mallorcas bekannt zu machen.
