My friends, There are so many things to be proud of at Beth El. In my mind, chief among them is how we came together as a community in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. To everyone who helped and served our members or helped those outside our immediate community, thank you. You sustained us. You gave selflessly of your time and energy. You got us through. Today, we come together to celebrate you, our Heroes, who continue to make us proud. I would like to name a few. • • • • • • • • • • • •

Shalom, On this special occasion I want to share with you how proud I continue to be to serve as the Rabbi of this incredible congregation. Our synagogue serves to help Judaism come alive for all of our members in the great variety of ways our congregants embrace their Judaism. We provide meaningful tefilah prayer experiences. Our education offerings, for every age, are second to none. We provide incredible cultural programming ranging from film to cooking, author events to sports events. We celebrate our holidays with joy and commemorate our sad occasions with sensitivity and meaning. Perhaps most of all, I am proud of the way in which we care for each other and support one another. This has been a hallmark of who we are in typical times but has really shown through during these extraordinary times. Thus, we salute and thank the many COVID heroes who went above and beyond to make sure that not only were our own fellow congregants cared for, but also the community as a whole. Our theme this year has been “V’ahavtah L’reiachah Kamocha” – “Love your neighbor as yourself”. The people we are honoring tonight have taken this incredible imperative from our Torah to heart and improved the lives of countless people in critical ways. Kol Hakovod! The staff of NSS Beth El honors all of our COVID-19 Heroes: • The Hazak Caring Community and Bikkur Cholim committee and volunteers have been taking care of our elderly, sick members, and others in need this past year. • The Medical Task Force includes medical professionals who are also synagogue members. They have advised our clergy and leadership throughout the pandemic, on the safety of any gatherings in our building. • The Social Action committee and volunteers have organized ongoing food donations, Thanksgiving meals, and other community giving during the past year. • Beth El's Education staff and teachers have risen to the challenge, finding creative ways to successfully deliver curriculum remotely.
