WELCOME DAMIEN FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO OUR 2021 DAMIEN HIGH SCHOOL GALA! I am grateful for all of our event sponsors, participants and volunteers that have come together to support this important social and fundraising opportunity. As we have come back in person after a year plus of isolation and limitations, it is truly wonderful to see so many people in person making personal connections with one another. My hope is that you are as excited as I am to see each other and to participate in our auction to support the Mission of Damien High School through raising money to meet our ongoing financial needs. Your generosity in participating and giving during this event will continue to support Damien High Schools goal of continuing to fulfil our Mission: “Inspired by St. Damien of Moloka’i, a member of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Damien High School, an all-boys Catholic school, develops men of Service, Scholarship, and Faith, prepared to engage in a global society.” Year after year, our Saint Monica’s Guild, provides an opportunity for all of our families to come together in fellowship and fun, building community and raising money to support the needs of our students. We have returned to school for in person education and co-curricular activities, rebuilding relationships with a greater understanding of the importance of personal connections. Let this event celebrate our return to campus and continued focus on developing men of Service, Scholarship and Faith. What is the purpose of a GALA or fundraiser? This is a question that is often asked of me, and I think it is important to answer. The short and truthful answer is tuition alone does not fund Damien High School’s operational budget. Events such as the GALA help to overcome our deficits and keep tuition manageable for our families. In addition to school operations, Tuition Assistance, Athletics, Debate and other curricular activities depend on fundraising to support their needs. Your financial support supports these programs, thank you! As President of Damien High School, I continue to rejoice in the generosity of our school community, our Spartan Family. As you participate in giving and supporting Damien High School, you demonstrate the charisms of St. Damien of Molokai and the Sacred Hearts Community of Priest who founded our school. Together We Make a Difference
Good Evening Damien Families, Friends, Staff and Supporters, It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Annual Damien High School Gala! This has been an unprecedented 18 months and I hope you’re all as happy as I am to be celebrating this evening’s Casino Royale in person. This evening promises to be filled with good food, great friendships, lots of laughter and fond memories. I can still remember my first Gala 5 years ago. I was a new Damien mom, a new member of St. Monica’s Guild, and I didn’t know what to expect. I did whatever I could to help out, from cutting ribbon to making gift baskets to setting up and tearing down for the Gala. It was a lot of fun, and I met new friends that I’ll have for the rest of my life. The Gala was a huge success, and my family and I had a blast. It was the first time we felt like we were part of the Damien family. For months after, we’d recount the good times we shared and the people we’d met, all while enjoying our silent auction winnings - from Beer for a Year to the Aircraft Carrier Tour tickets. Two years later, my sister Mary chose to fly in from Ohio for the Gala (instead of Thanksgiving!) to partake in the fun and support her nephews’ school. We had the pleasure of playing Blackjack with my son’s Science teacher. After two previous Galas, I had finally figured out that I had to bet big to win big if I was going to have any chance of winning a raffle prize at the end of the night. I didn’t last very long at Blackjack and I didn’t win the raffle! That’s OK because I got to spend the rest of the night catching up with the other unlucky gamblers. As always, the Gala was a success, due in large part to the efforts of the St. Monica’s Guild members. Fast forward to tonight’s Gala. Unfortunately, I’m not able to attend in person this year, however, I will be with you in spirit. Take this opportunity to become a part of the Damien family or get reacquainted with your existing Damien family. I promise you’ll have a great time, and I look forward to hearing all about it at the next SMG meeting (subtle hint!) Thanks to everyone that made tonight possible by giving your time, your hard work, and your donations. It’s all worthwhile as we continue to support Damien High School! God Bless,

Over the last 19 months, the Damien staff and students have realized more than ever how important outdoor events have become to support the Spartan Brotherhood. The Senior Quad is the heart of our campus and is a cherished gathering place for so many memorable events such as graduations, mass, the tree lighting ceremony, and countless activities during school lunch breaks. Currently, the sound system used for the Senior Quad is comprised of portable speakers and microphones. The efforts needed to set-up this system prior to each event are time consuming and require a team of volunteers or staff members. This year’s Fund-A-Need campaign will allow for a built-in sound system for the Senior Quad. A professional sound system will enhance every event held in the quad. With your support, we can better the experiences of the Spartan events to continue the tradition of making unforgettable memories and fostering the bonds of the Spartan Brotherhood.
