Containers To-Go

Spring 2024 - Fourth Year Military Hangar Adaptive Reuse Studio

Professor: Mariam Modejhi

Location: The Great park in Irvine, California, USA

Containers To-Go redefines dining within the Great Park of Orange County through adaptive reuse and sustainable design. Addressing the area’s limited dining options, this project transforms repurposed shipping containers into vibrant culinary spaces and a place to shop and hang out. By blending functionality with contemporary design, it offers diverse dining experiences that cater to both residents and visitors. Each container hosts unique culinary concepts, from gourmet dishes to casual fare, maximizing space efficiency and minimizing environmental impact. The project showcases the potential of adaptive reuse, aligning sustainability with creative urban development.

Located amidst attractions like the Flying Leatherneck Museum and OC Dance Studio, Containers To-Go not only meets community dining needs but also enhances the visitor experience. It aspires to be a destination that integrates seamlessly with the Great Park’s cultural and recreational offerings, fostering a sustainable and dynamic environment for all.

National Latino American Museum: El Centro

Fall 2023 - Fourth Year Topic Studio

Professor: Irma Ramirez

Partner(s): Jocelyn Aguirre

Location: Washington D.C., USA

*Top 3 Projects - Chosen by Walt Disney Imagineers (WDI) Panel

Located in the South Quadrant of the National Mall, our project, “Journey to El Centro,” is a vibrant tribute to the rich tapestry of Latino culture and heritage in the United States. It serves as a bridge between the past and the present, inviting visitors to reconnect with their core identity and delve into the deeply rooted values of the land while shedding light on the strenuous yet resilient journeys of Latino families to the United States. Through our site, we aim to explore the interconnected themes of land, orientation, and journey. Aligning with the Washington DC Capitol axis and across the African American Museum, The museum is centered around two points of alignment coordinators that split on top and unite at the bottom of the building, connecting sky and ground or community and self; symbolizing a sign of coordinal direction and a way to find your centro. The water and landforms surrounding the entire museum ground, represent a reflection of immigration through lands and waters, providing a safe haven for those who lost their lives to find a better home. Connecting both architecture and landscape projects is an underground tunnel that highlights the struggles of immigration through a dark atmosphere showing the hope of the light at the end of the tunnel.

Little Tokyo Museum Of Arts

Fall 2021 - Second Year Museum Studio

Location: Little Tokyo, Downtown Los Angeles, USA

The objective of this project was to create a contemporary museum for Little Tokyo in Downtown Los Angeles, California. Students were tasked with adapting to both the front, East 1st st., and back of the museum and displaying the works of Yoshitomo Nara. The idea of my museum was conceived through the concept of stacking and joining multiple rectangular prisms and cubes to create spaces within both sides of the museum. This leaves a negative space in the middle of the building that is used for circulation and the atrium. The big skylight highlights the main atrium stairs, showing the contrast of heavy and light as well as light and dark from the outside to the inside of the museum.

Single Mothers Co-op Housing Kaguya

Summer 2023 - Japan ENV Study Abroad Studio

Professor: Irma Ramirez

Partner(s): Kayla Catacutan , Jadyn Pascual

Location: Yokohama, Japan

*Chosen for Interim Design Showcase (Summer 2023)

Inspired by a folklore from Japan, named Princess Kaguya or Little Bamboo, our project seeks to recognize the potential or divinity inherent in the otherwise oppressed women in Japanese society. This was a smaller studio group project during my study abroad program in Japan. I participated in the on-site research, narrative, and the co-op housing design, which is 1/3 of the overall project. The project was for single moms who want to return to work after having a family. Japan’s overall population is decreasing, however, the demographic of women in general struggles with societal standards in Japan when starting a family that more often than not discourages them from returning back to work after giving birth. As a result, our project aims to provide a safe space for co-op housing, a nursery to work in, and a memorial park for community all on one site, encouraging community, growth, and safety for aspiring mothers who wish to return to the workforce and their children.
