The world we live in is becoming increasingly connected, in technology, in business, and in culture. Our Year 9 programme reflects and prepares students to succeed in the world as it is today, and as it will be tomorrow.
The curriculum is designed to be a hybrid of the best of traditional and modern learning. Students will develop a solid foundation in language and numeracy skills, whilst the teaching of other subjects blends together and overlaps to reflect the connectivity between academic disciplines and how this is applied in the real world.
Students will learn the core knowledge and skills needed to successfully progress on to the next stage of their learning, but they will also extend their learning beyond the normal syllabus – London Learning.
When launched, our Year 9 curriculum was recognised by Talk Education, winning their Award for Innovation in Education.
A large part of our success in this category was down to the unique opportunities ‘London Learning’ provided students and the modern approach to learning at DLD, setting them up for success in school and beyond.
A UNIQUE PROGRAMME OF STUDY
CORE SUBJECTS
Our Year 9 programme focuses on the core subjects in which students need a strong foundation, by studying Mathematics and English in depth to support the levels of numeracy and literacy that are required across all other subjects.
ADDITIONAL SUBJECTS
Students will then study additional courses which are interdisciplinary in their approach including Science, Creative Arts, Technology and Business, Humanities and London Learning. From this, they will be better prepared with the academic skills required to gain deeper content knowledge in their choice of Year 10 and 11 study.
SUPPLEMENTARY LEARNING & ACTIVITIES
In addition to subject lessons, each week students will have additional timetabled sessions focusing on their physical, social, emotional and professional development.
They will also be able to take part in a variety of co-curricular activities (CCAs), forging friendships and honing their interests with clubs including, music, debating, horticulture, languages and a range of sports!
LONDON LEARNING
As part of our ‘London is our classroom’ mantra, every Friday we take learning out into London, making the most of our unique location opposite the Houses of Parliament.
Students will work on cross-curricular projects, getting involved in the community in which they live, and develop their research, inquiry and reflection skills, actively using everything the capital has to offer, instilling an awareness and interest beyond the classroom.

ACADEMIC PATHWAYS
Our Year 9 provision forms the first stage of a DLD student’s journey, as they progress through to our Year 10 and 11 and then onto Sixth Form, university and beyond.
I enjoy the fact that we are treated with independence, and it feels different to other schools. The teachers are really welcoming and friendly, I found it really easy to settle in.
The subjects are different, especially creative arts and London Learning - it is a unique way of learning, which is really fun
