OZELL SUTTON LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP The Ozell Sutton Leadership and Service Endowed Scholarship was established in 2015 by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. in honor of its 26th General President, Dr. Ozell Sutton. It is awarded to a Philander Smith College student who exemplifies the true spirit of the life, service and legacy of PSC Alumnus Ozell Sutton. The Sutton Scholar displays a passion and desire for the pursuit of social justice, fairness and equality along with outstanding academic credentials. Initially, the Sutton Scholarship Award will provide a minimum $3,500 yearly scholarship, and with matching funds, allows for a $7,000 yearly scholarship.
Dr. Roderick L. Smothers, Sr., President, Philander Smith College, and Mr. Mark S. Tillman, 34th General President, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., established the Ozell Sutton Leadership and Service Endowed Scholarship in August 2015.
President Mark S. Tillman presents a $50,000 check from Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. to President Roderick L. Smothers, Sr. and PSC Board Members, Chairwoman Pat Lile and Bishop Gary E. Mueller, establishing the Ozell Sutton Leadership and Service Endowed Scholarship.
