Rail Freight Safety Improvement Programme Case Study Rail Installation - Quartz Evo LED Bollard Abacus Lighting successfully secured a contract for a ten-site rail scheme as part of the Freight Safety Improvement Programme (FSIP). The project involved the design, supply, and installation of approximately 350 Quartz Evo Glass-fibre Reinforced Polyester (GRP) LED bollards across the 10 sites. In addition, Abacus installed 8 raise and lower (RL) lighting columns alongside the bollards when access was available during possession. The majority of the installed Quartz Evo GRP bollards were asymmetrical, with a few symmetrical versions as per the specifications in client’s lighting design.

Professional, Safe & Efficient Installation The installation of LED bollards aimed to meet lighting safety standards for workers using the GRP walkways near live rails. The entire installation was carried out over a period of ten months by a team of eight fully qualified installation engineers with RISQS, PTS, and ECS cards. The engineers wore full personal protective equipment (PPE) during their work on the lines, and line blocks were put in place to ensure their safety.
