Blue Acorn Sketchbooks

Supreme Spiral Sketchbooks

The Blue Acorn Supreme sketchbook has 50 sheets of 150gsm cartridge paper and more importantly has a large 28mm diameter twin spiral binding to accommodate additions without strain. This sketchbook has a hard wearing, deluxe black cover front and back, the 150gsm paper can cope with light washes of paint as well as inks, pencils, sketching pens and brush pens.

Aprons

Natural Canvas Apron

Blue Acorn ‘Natural’ canvas aprons are made from 100%, 7oz cotton canvas and are strong, yet lightweight. Each apron measures 80cm x 57cm, with 2 side straps 100cm length each and an adjustable neck strap. There are 2 deep pockets, 1 shallow pocket and 5 openings for brushes. This is the perfect apron for all artists.

Deluxe Canvas Apron

Blue Acorn ‘Deluxe’ canvas aprons are the ultimate aprons, made from 10oz heavyweight splash-proof canvas, dyed to a stylish ‘sand’ colour. Ideal for pottery and ceramics work as well as painting of all styles, there are 2 deep pockets, 1 shallow pocket and 5 openings for brushes. Each apron measures 80cm x 57cm, with 2 side straps 100cm length each and an adjustable neck strap.

Cartridge Paper

This high quality, acid-free 140gsm paper has a toothy texture and is suitable for all media. Being internally and surface sized it can take watercolour washes. Manufactured in a local mill in the Lake District. Available in sizes A4 - A1, in 140gsm, 170gsm & 220gsm.

White & Black Card

White and black card are excellent for mounting, craft work and 3D design work. The black sheets have a smooth texture and are easy to score, fold, cut and glue. The white sheets are a ‘matt white’ colour and have a slightly textured surface making them suitable for pastel and charcoal work as well as mounting and craft. Available in sizes A4 - A1.

Universal Paper

Abacus Resources Universal artists’ paper is perfect for watercolour, but will also accept acrylics, oils and gouache. A special membrane in this paper makes it unique in taking both watercolour and oil. 560mm x 760mm, 300gsm.

Newsprint

Newsprint is a lightweight (49gsm) paper used in Architecture, Art, Graphics, Fashion and Printing Departments. Uses range from initial sketches, designing dressmaking patterns, packaging and screen printing tests to wiping off excess ink from printing plates. Used extensively in screen printing. Available in a range of sizes.

Mountboard

A clean bevel cut and lasting quality come as standard in the Abacus range of neutral pH mountboards. Colours and surfaces have been carefully selected to offer a wide choice of shades for professional framing and presentation, and are superb for washlining and mount decoration. Available in a range of colours and sizes A4-A1.

Foamboard

Abacus Resources Foam Board is a British Made quality board, manufactured from lightweight extruded polystyrene foam with card and paper liners. An ideal product for presentations, short term indoor displays and modelling. A1 5mm white Foam Board is the most popular size of board and comes in a box of 10 sheets. Also available in A2, A3, A4, 3mm A1- A4, 10mm A1 & Black 5mm A1 & A2.

Artist’s Brushes

Woodpecker - Round & Flat

Found in almost every educational establishment, these brushes are exceptionally durable and versatile. Made with White synthetic bristles and a short black wooden handle with a gold band, to give a true quality feel.

Swallow Hog - Round & Flat

These hog brushes contain quality hog bristles with a long natural handle and aluminum ferrule. These brushes have more bristles than many other hog brushes to enhance their performance.

Kingfisher - Round & Flat

Just like the Kingfisher, these golden synthetic brushes are beautiful. The bristles are made of durable and versatile golden synthetic hair with a wooden handle. The synthetic bristles facilitate clean and crisp delivery of paint to a wide range of surfaces. Available in short handle round or flat.

Montana Spray Paint

Montana Water Based 300 Spray Paints are an awesome addition to the Abacus Creative Resources range!

Water Based 300, is a revolutionary water-based spray paint - low pressure and, above all, it’s low odour which makes it the perfect tool for studio, classroom or indoor work. This spray paint can be used without the need for a spray booth and extraction system.

Due to its composition, it is an incredibly versatile paint that may be utilised with various techniques. The low solvent content means the intensity of its scent is minimal, thus decreasing its impact in enclosed spaces. In addition, before it’s completely dry, the paint can be erased with water or reworked with other techniques such as using a wet paint brush.

To use, simply shake the aerosol vigorously until you hear the sound of the mixing ball and spray onto the surface that you wish to paint. Allow for a few minutes of dry time between each coat. Water Based 300 makes it possible to paint lines of varying widths, ranging from 1 cm (PRO Cap) up to 10 cm (with the Hardcore Fat Cap).

Colours Available

System 3 Acrylic

System 3 acrylics are highly versatile, water-based acrylic colours. They offer an excellent painting experience at an economical price. Only high quality pigments are used in the manufacture of the System 3 acrylic ranges, offering significantly greater loading than in other acrylic ranges in this class. System 3’s comprehensive range of colours offers excellent light-fastness*, permanence, durability and covering power.

All colours can be thinned with water to pale washes or used directly from the pot or tube; each form dries quickly to create an insoluble film. The quick drying properties of the range enable the artist to work quickly, superimposing or juxtaposing colours without unnecessary fuss.

Used extensively for screen printing, due to their properties.

Available in sizes of 59ml, 150ml, 500ml, 1l, 2.25l and sets.

*All but fluorescent colours; by their nature fluorescent pigments are not lightfast.

Modelling Materials

Modroc - A versatile modelling material. Mod-Roc is a plasterimpregnated bandage, easily cut with scissors. Your models can be stained or coloured with a variety of colouring materials.

Das - A moist modelling clay that is ready to use, air dries to a hard, double matt finish without the need for firing. Available in 500g and 1kg, in white and terracotta.

Buff Kiln Clay - An excellent general purpose clay for school use. It is grogged with 10% sand, added to give slight “tooth”. Good for throwing, slabbing, coiling and general domestic ware. Firing range 1100ºc-1290ºc, therefore suitable for earthenware and stoneware work. Available in a variety of colours.

Newclay - An off-white clay that is nylon reinforced to increase strength and reduce brittleness. Can be used by small children up to adults for modelling and crafts. Air hardening- but also fires well in the range of 1000ºc to 1250ºc. A good quality, general purpose clay, available in 1kg, 4.5kg and 12.5g.

Newplast - Newplast is a non-drying, reusable modelling material, yet waterproof due to its oil based ingredients. It is available in the traditional layered bar, either as a solid colour block or as assorted colours and is sufficiently pliable to make a wide variety of models, but firm enough to retain its shape indefinitely.

Alginate - Alginate is a flexible mould/impression making material manufactured from kelp. Used to reproduce patterns and mouldings in plaster, timber, cement, stone and many other materials.

Liquid Latex - Latex Liquid rubber is an emulsion which will air-dry on the surface of a master pattern to form a thin, peelable mould. Moulds made of latex have a comparatively long life, are easily made and will give good definition and accuracy of reproduction. Available in 1L, 5L and 25L.

Aluminum Wire - Make bases, supports and armatures. Ideal accompaniments to clay, plaster of Paris and ModRoc. Available in 1mm x 30m, 2mmx 20m, 3.25mm x 10m and 4.55mm x 5m.

Wire Mesh Rolls - These soft meshes can be easily cut, shaped, stretched and contoured to produce incredible forms and armatures that retain their shape for subsequent modelling with all kinds of materials such as Mod-Roc and Das. Available in fine, medium and coarse.

Pliers - Suitable for bending and cutting wires, metals and other associated products.

Technical Drawing Pens Wallet

Adhesives

Pritt Stick

The original Pritt Stick is solvent-free and made from 97% natural ingredients, including water. The Pritt Glue Stick can be applied smoothly and evenly and gives you enough time to reposition the object. Thanks to the special airtight cap and tube system, the glue stick remains fresh and can be used for several years without drying out.

PVA

Premium quality washable PVA for bonding wood, cardboard, paper and other absorbent surfaces. Dries to a waterproof translucent film. Smooth, creamy consistency. High solids content.

Double Sided Tape

This general purpose double sided tape is excellent for use in many environments such as art studios, design studios and especially picture framing and in the print industries. Easy to tear and has excellent adhesive properties.

Masking Tape

A premium quality range of masking tape for use in a wide variety of applications. Commonly used for securing watercolour paper to a backing board for stretching, it’s also good for masking areas you don’t want to paint, and providing a clean straight edge for lines.

Bostik Handy Glue Gun

It features a compact lightweight design with an easy to use trigger action that will enable all ages to use it. Will bond most materials used within D&T. The adhesive is non-toxic, non-flammable, waterproof and odourless which means it is safe to use in a classroom. Complete with retractable stand. Fuse rating: 3A. Glue stick refil boxes available.

Spraymount

The number 1 studio adhesive that provides an instant, repositionable and secure bond which des not go brittle with age. Convenient and consistent, it is ideal for paste-up and artwork, and is excellent for sticking down and mounting most materials.

Ghiant Mounter

Mounter High-Tac adhesive spray is a permanent adhesive for covering large surfaces. Ideal for mounting photographs, posters, foamboard, textiles, corrugated cardboard, etc. Mounter High-Tac can be repositioned for a short period of time. This adhesive may leave traces on thin materials, therefore advisable to test before use.

Also a repositionable mounting spray is available for graphics and exhibitions. Suited for repeated mounting of materials such as paper, film, acetate, textiles, photographic paper, layout paper and stencils.

Drawing

MDF Boards - Smooth multi-use board with bevelled edges, for all levels of education from technical drawing to sketching to field work. Manufactured from top quality MDF board which is warp resistant and gives a beautiful smooth, flat working surface. Available in 6mm or 12mm thickness. Bulldog Spring Clip - Stainless steel clamp for securing sheets of paper to drawing boards or within portfolios.

Cutting Mats - Cutting mats are premium quality, self healing and have a 10mm grid on the top surface. The grid lines aid effortless straight line cuts. Heat resistant and perfectly protects all surfaces.

Nitrile Gloves

Disposable, soft nitrile gloves are latex-free, powder free and provide a fully textured finger for increased grip when both wet and dry. With strong beaded cuffs these gloves are as soft, supple and comfortable to wear as natural rubber latex but they are significantly stronger and have superior resistance to oil/chemical permeation. Becoming increasingly the glove of choice due to their ‘non-allergic’ properties. Suitable for users that are allergic to latex.
