ANTIDOTE Last March, San Francisco was the first city in the United States to put a shelter-in-place and the Academy of Art University went remote. It happened right before senior styling students started working o n their fashion m a g a z i n e project. Instead of changing the project d u e to the circumstances, w e decided to m o v e forward, creating a c h a n c e for students to give their point of view as stylists on what is happening, using all skills they have learned at school. M a n y wore several hats, such as styling, but with only clothes they h a d around them. E a c h h a d to navigate art direction, photography, modeling, m a k e u p , hair styling, a n d graphic design. S o m e even enlisted their parent to take photos. E a c h group w a s spread out all over the world, m a n y laid off from their side retail jobs forcing them to m o v e back home with parents in North Carolina, others had to stay abroad longer in Mexico, or m o v e back to quarantine in China, or stay sheltered in their apartments in San Francisco with limited contact with the outside world. – Flore Morton, Styling Program Director, Academy of Art University San Francisco.
