COVID-19 Versus an Ag-Pilot’s Safety
Probably a greater danger to ag-pilots than COVID-19 is ourselves. Yes, that is true.
A 6 | agairupdate.com
Today is March 16, 2020. Typically, I wait until the last week before publication to write my editorial. This allows me to comment on the latest happenings in the industry. However, I’m writing a little earlier this month with the recent developments of the coronavirus, COVID-19. In the U.S., we are in the early stages of the now-declared global pandemic. Just over the weekend, schools have closed for two weeks, some longer. The airlines are reporting 40-75% reductions in flights. Large public gatherings are being canceled. People are cleaning out grocery stores. Things are becoming a bit inconvenient, unless you are elderly, or have a compromised immune system, and have the virus. Then, the inconvenience becomes life-threatening. My hope is all this hysteria will subside as the northern hemisphere advances deeper into spring’s warmer climate, and the “social distancing” takes its toll on the virus spreading. This temperature change has been true with other flu viruses. At this time, it remains to be seen with COVID-19. However, today I received an email from one of my Brazilian representatives saying that the country is starting to implement safety measures, cinemas, and museums “ordered” to close and other social distancing practices. After all, they are beginning their cold season, whereas the northern hemisphere is ending its. If the virus continues to spread into Latin America and other southern hemisphere countries that are entering into the fall season, social distancing will create problems. Depending on how the virus presents itself in the coming days and months, upcoming trade shows could be canceled; international airline tickets may not be available. Besides, who wants to sit on an aircraft for 10 hours worrying about catching the virus? Fortunately, ag-pilots work in a minimalhuman-contact environment, as do their grower
customers. There may be considerations given for industry trade shows and other gatherings, even mandated quarantines, but pests and plant disease are not going to respond in any manner related to COVID-19. Pests will keep eating and rotting. Plants will still require nutrients and water. So, I expect the agricultural industry to prevail during this trying time. I believe ag-operators will continue to need products and services, e.g., fuel, aircraft parts, maintenance, etc. Life at the airstrip won’t change. Probably a greater danger to ag-pilots than COVID-19 is ourselves. Yes, that is true. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) reports show year after year the industry suffers more from nonmechanical accidents than mechanical, meaning human error. Sometimes we can’t control a mechanical accident. Of course, we can help minimize mechanical accidents with proper maintenance. However, we almost have complete control over a non-mechanical accident caused by the pilot. Everyone knows how this works; diet, rest and a safety-oriented mindset. When we “cheat” on these ways of improving safety, we inadvertently put ourselves in a position that could compromise our well-being. In an analogy, ag-pilots become the elderly, and the virus becomes the accident. As those at risk practice clean health and social distancing, ag-pilots should do the same, but in the tone of a daily reset of the safety mindset. Just don’t allow fatigue and complacency to take hold. It is kind of like using sanitizer and hand washing for the brain. Until next month, keep turning…

Excellent Editorial Bill, Thanks for the excellent editorial in the March AAU on using drones for ag spraying. You made good points and proposed excellent questions! You also had a good response to the letter in that same issues AgAir Mail. Hopefully research will follow to provide much needed information that will help the aerial application industry make critical decisions in the future about using a drone to apply crop protection products. Retired and enjoying it and I appreciate receiving AAU to keep in touch with the industry. Bob Wolf Mahomet, IL Thanks Bob Your compliments are welcomed and appreciated. Thanks to the NAAA, that is actually take affirmative action, my role is to publicize the information and cause all to think through this issue. Take care and enjoy your retirement.—Bill
Dromader I’m curious as to why ag-pilots would prefer a plane like the M-18 Dromader over a similarly sized Air Tractor or Thrush. I’m not a pilot and know nothing of the flying characteristics of ag aircraft. Is there something about the way this plane “handles” or is it the fact that because it’s a foreign-made aircraft it’s cheaper to buy than the American-made product? Will Crump Bolivar, TN Good morning Will; To answer your question, typically, gallon for gallon hopper size the Dromader is less expensive, particularly when comparing radial engine versions. The Dromader also has a much larger hopper than the average ag-plane, especially with a conversion to enlarge the hopper, except for the AT-802. However, the turbine engine powered model is a conversion and as far as I know, Dromader is no longer in production. So, as they say, “Follow the money”, at least for the initial investment/ purchase. I’m not sure about long term cost comparatives. Take care, —Bill

eventy-five years ago, 1945 was a year that brought about significant international events. Most notably, the Japanese surrender, bringing an end to World War II. President Franklin
D. Roosevelt was inaugurated into an unprecedented fourth term in office, where he later died from a protracted battle with polio.
The original hangar for Lane Airpark still is in use at Lane Aviation in Rosenberg, Texas.
At his death, Vice-President Harry S. Truman took the Oath of Office and served until 1953. The United Nations formed in 1945, Don McLean was born, and Percy Spencer accidentally discovered the microwave could heat food. More importantly in ag-aviation, George Lane (19202003) and his brother, Milton Lane (1922-2012), both fresh out of the war as a Marine Fighter Pilot and Navy Transport Pilot respectively, officially opened Lane Airpark at the location it still operates from today, 75 years later, in Rosenberg, Texas. George and Milton Lane recognized a need in their local community for an airport, a vision that proved to be successful and well-received. Two significant events led to this success. The Veterans Administration (VA) had made money available for flight training and local farmers had expressed an interest in having an agricultural flying operation. The Lane brothers accepted the challenge and opened Southern Air Dusting and Spraying, (in 1964 becoming Lane Aviation) with Stearmans and Piper Cubs. One of the Cubs was delivered to Lane Airpark by Mr. William Piper himself. From Lane Airpark, the company operated a flying school and an ag operation using Stearmans and PA-18A Cubs until the late 1950s, where a chance encounter with a young Texas aeronautical engineer would change the course of the company and the ag aviation industry forever. Milton Lane stayed with the company until 1964, where he left to work as a pilot for his uncle’s local company and start a gun store. Texas A&M had scheduled Leland Snow to give a demonstration and speech on his newly designed monoplane, one specifically for agricultural operations, the ➤

A staple at Lane Aviation is Dona Jorden. Dona has been with Lane Aviation since 1992, when she answered a local classified ad for a clerical position. Today, Dona is the Parts Manager for Lane Aviation. She has won multiple awards, and has actively been involved with the state and national associations. Dona was the
A-model Snow. George Lane was present, liked what he saw, and placed a deposit on the aircraft. Over the next decade, the Lane’s phased out their Cubs and Stearmans, replacing them with the new Snow series “agricultural” aircraft. As the demand for aerial applications steadily increased, Lane Aviation became a dealer for Snow aircraft. The company operated the S2A, B, C and D models and eventually, the R model (the R represented “Rice”) with a larger hopper. In 1965, Leland Snow sold Snow Aircraft to RockwellStandard, where he then started working as vice-president of the Aero Commander division. With this sale, Lane Aviation now became a dealer for the Rockwell Thrush, the successor of the Snow. The 1970s ushered in another breakthrough by Leland Snow and, by proxy, Lane Aviation - the debut of the Air Tractor. After Snow’s time with Rockwell-Standard was over, he introduced the first Air Tractor, the AT-300, in 1973. With the advent of the AT-300, Lane Aviation became one of the first Air Tractor dealers in the world.
Lane Aviation’s continued success throughout the 1990s and 2000s allowed for extensive expansion into international and South American markets.
recipient of the 2019 TAAA Service Award, she served as the 2013 WNAAA President, the 2011 WNAAA Secretary and as an Allied Director for the NAAA.
Turbine engines were also making their way into agricultural aviation during the late 1970s and 1980s. Lane Aviation, now both a Thrush and Air Tractor dealer, began offering their turbine engine Lane Conversions on older model radial engine Thrush aircraft. The company replaced most of its Snow aircraft with Thrushes that now utilized the PT6A-20 powered Thrush (Lane Conversion) in their agricultural operations. George Lane’s sons, Grant and Mark Lane, only two years apart in age, grew up in the Lane Aviation business. Both were taught to fly by their father, George, and soloed at 16. Grant and Mark both started flying full-time in 1975 in one of the company’s radial Thrushes. George Lane actively flew in agricultural operations until the late 1970s. The Lane Brake, on approximately 90% of all operating agricultural aircraft, was born as a brainchild of George Lane and Mel Chynoweth in the late 1970s. The two were constantly battling brakes that were simply not working, under-engineered and continually costing down-time. The constant changing of wooden blades were also causing problems in dayto-day operations. Mr. Lane knew he needed a brake with a variable pitch. The Lane Brake hasn’t changed much from the revolutionary design that debuted over 40 years ago. Materials have been replaced with more robust ones, and small design changes as technology progressed continue to make this accessory a necessity for the agricultural operator.
In addition to an Air Tractor dealership, Lane Aviation operated a fullservice agricultural spraying operation until 2017. A 16 | agairupdate.com

was formed. This entity operated separately from Lane Aviation and was under the guidance of Mark Lane until the late 1980s, when he sold to his brother, Grant. From there, Mark continued agricultural and corporate flying until his retirement in 2019. In the late 1980s Lane Aviation committed to being an Air Tractor-only operation. The Lane Conversions were slowing, as newly built Thrush were coming onto the market with turbines from the factory. This move allowed Lane Aviation to focus on its Air Tractor dealership, where sales were nationwide, and the international market soon to follow. Lane Aviation’s continued success throughout the 1990s and 2000s allowed for extensive expansion into international and South American markets. Agricultural aviation in South America gained significant momentum by the early 2000s. It is then when Grant Lane formed a partnership with AeroGlobo Aeronaves. AeroGlobo Aeronaves became the exclusive Lane Aviation dealer in Brazil in 2007. Also, during this time, Lane Aviation forged a partnership with Falconer to represent Argentina and other South American countries and Sun Valley Aviation to handle the Mexico and Central American sales. Today, Lane Aviation is the leading Air Tractor dealer in the world. They have 14 employees in their Rosenberg, Texas location with customers from all over the globe. Grant Lane, Logan Lane and Elise Stanton work in the main office and their extensive Parts Department is managed by long-time employee Dona Jorden (see sidebar story). Tammy Lucas,
Alexia Hernandez, Brian Patrouski and Jerry Orsak all come together to keep parts on the shelves ready for delivery to Lane Aviation’s customers. Curtis Bishop is head of grounds and equipment, while the full-service maintenance shop is staffed by Chris Bexley (IA, A&P), Catarino Avila (A&P), Scott Sidwell (IA, A&P) and Lester Jones managing the Lane Brake assemblies. The next generation of leadership is apparent at Lane Aviation. Grant’s son, Logan, graduated from Texas A & M University in 2013 and has returned to the business as vicepresident. Logan is instrumental in the day-to-day operations, as well as handling sales and service. Lane Aviation actively ran an agricultural spraying operation until 2017 when urban encroachment led to a steady decrease of acres. Grant decided to suspend agricultural operations and focus all of Lane Aviation’s energy on the Air Tractor dealership’s role in sales, service and overall support of its customers. Three-quarters of a century is a long time to be at the forefront of agricultural aviation. Lane Aviation has done that well; from the early days of Cubs and Stearmans through Thrushes to the latest Air Tractor models, Lane Aviation has been a constant hallmark within the industry. The excitement and progression for the future at Lane Aviation ensures the company will be at the forefront of agricultural aviation for another 75 years.

EPA has concluded its regulatory review of glyphosate—the most widely used herbicide in the United States. After a thorough review of the best available science, as required under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act, EPA has concluded that there are no risks of concern to human health when glyphosate is used according to the label and that it is not a carcinogen. These findings on human health risk are consistent with the conclusions of science reviews by many other countries and other federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Canadian Pest Management Regulatory Agency, the Australian Pesticide and Veterinary Medicines Authority, the European Food Safety Authority, and the German Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. Glyphosate has been studied for decades and the agency reviewed thousands of studies since its registration. Glyphosate is used on more than 100 food crops, including glyphosate-resistant corn, soybean, cotton, canola, and sugar beet. It is the leading herbicide for the management of invasive and noxious weeds and is used to manage pastures, rangeland, rights of ways, forests, public land, and residential areas. Are High Water Rate Applications Necessary? by Alan McCracken
A high flying Air Tractor avoiding trees during a fungicide application.
A 20 | agairupdate.com
There is confusion in many technical advisors’ minds regarding the need for high volumes of water to obtain good coverage with several still believing this is the only way. In my opinion, many labels tend to be misleading by specifying high volumes that could result in “run-off and soil contamination. I would like to provoke open thinking that may lead to new ideas for the future. This article has been written to clarify that low volumes do work, although they may not be the answer for all situations. I fully agree that small droplets are more subject to evaporation loss or can be carried upwards by rising thermals causing drift. For this specific reason, all low volume applications must contain oils and adjuvants to obtain consistent results. For low volume spraying to be successful, those involved require a higher level of technical expertise for accurate adjustment and calibration of equipment. Years of trials and experience on many millions
of hectares have proven it is necessary to always add oil and/or adjuvants to the spray solution to obtain consistent good results, especially under conditions of high temperature and low relative humidity. There are numerous oil-type adjuvants on the market with labels that claim to enhance performance and to control evaporation using low dosage rates. Unfortunately, none of these low dose products control evaporation at the labelled rates. The best option is a combination of a vegetable oil with adjuvants to provide a double function with the oil providing protection against evaporation and the adjuvant to reduce surface tension to produce more uniform droplets and enhance coverage. In many areas, growers using high volume applications generally deliver wheat with a significant fusarium level. Growers using low volume spraying in North Dakota and Canada are delivering wheat with practically zero level of fusarium and thereby obtaining a premium price

for their commodity. It is often necessary to fly at 40-50 foot heights applying fungicides that are sometimes difficult to fly lower due to trees and other obstacles. However, there is no problem at these altitudes with low volumes using oil to control evaporation. If high volumes of water are used, a significant amount of product does not reach the crop due to evaporation. Many growers in Brazil have been controlling for several years the psyllid that transmits greening HLB (Huanglongbing) using ULV spraying. It was a salvation to its citrus industry when spray volumes were reduced to 5 lts/ha (½ gal/ac) and subsequently reduced to 3 lts/ha (0.3 gal/ac) for control. But yet, USA growers are controlled by labels specifying 10-15 gals/acre that have been proven to be ineffective. So, the question bears answering, why has the USA government in the past financed a major aerial spraying campaign to eliminate the boll weevil using ULV applications, if high volumes of water were better? There is currently a major locust outbreak in Africa, Argentina and Pakistan. I suggest high volume experts should go there and try drowning locusts with water. There are over 300 aircraft and helicopters operating each year in the USA making ULV mosquito applications. Typical application volumes used are 150-200 mls/hectare (0.02-0.05 l/ac / 2-3 oz/ac). ULV methods have been used successfully controlling the aforementioned pests for over 50 years! A grower located in a hot desert region of Mexico had very poor cicada control using high volumes of water at 100 lts/ha (10 gal/ac) treating asparagus. He requested my support to obtain better control. On arrival in the area, I immediately noted the high temperatures of 35-45°C (95113F) combined with low humidity of 15-25%. I advised my client the only way to control the pest was by using the ULV technique with oil. After aircraft modifications and careful calibration, a total spray volume of two liters/ ha (0.2 gal/ac) with one liter of insecticide plus one liter of oil per hectare was applied with excellent results and an immediate kill of the pests. He has been using this technique now for several years and continues to obtain excellent control. Forestry applications of the Bt DiPel are applied using ULV since the early 1990s. Typically, doses of 40-90 BIU/ ha or 16-36 BIU/acre (Billion International Units) are applied undiluted in volumes of 1.8 to 4.7 l/ha (24 to 64 oz/acre). The use of undiluted Bt provides adequate foliar coverage and increases aircraft production. No water carrier is required proving another spectacular use of low volume applications for better coverage (Source:https://www. fs.fed.us/foresthealth/technology/pdfs/btmanage.pdf). It is obvious to me that drift control has taken first ➤

Asparagus in Mexico with superb insect control by reducing applications from 100 l/ha (10 gal/ac) to two l/ha (0.2 gal/ac), even in 35-45°C (95-133°F) and relative humidity of 15-25%.
place in some technical people’s minds who have obviously lost focus of the main objective being the control of pests and diseases. Practically all drift problems occur not because of high wind speeds, but problems of inversion and evaporation with thermals. Surely, it is past time to seriously question why labels are not being updated to reflect the advantages of LV and ULV. One herbicide label from a multinational company even specifies a three MPH maximum wind speed limitation, which in my view is a recipe for disaster that is encouraging applications when there is a higher risk of an inversion. Another very clear example of a low volume application success is on soybeans in Brazil. In the early 1970s, there were only a few thousand acres of production there. In 2018/19 crop year, Brazil moved into first place as a soybean producer with 92 million acres planted, overtaking the USA; and with yields higher than in the USA. Brazilian exports of soybeans are expected to exceed 75 million tons in 2019/20. This growth is even more dramatic since disease and pest pressure in Brazil is much more intense than in USA, where most of the chemical applications are made using low volumes of 5 lts-15 lts/ A 22 | agairupdate.com
ha (0.5-1.5 gal/ac). Fortunately for farmers in Brazil, they can use the best methods available and add oils and adjuvants to control evaporation. Most growers are using rotary atomizers of which there are at least six different types in the Brazilian marketplace. During January and February of this year, I worked with a number of farmers in Brazil who rarely, if ever use, their ground sprayers. They apply 90-100% of fungicides and insecticides by air using spray volumes of 2-10 liters/ha (0.2-1 gal/ac). Many “experts” insist the operator should follow the label on the premise that if the product does not work and the label was not followed, the chemical company will not accept liability. Plus, it is illegal to apply off-label. All this is true. However, the problem of Asian Rust control is a case in point. At the outbreak of this disease, experts insisted on following labels and also on using high volumes of water 30-50 lts/ha (3-5 gal/ac) for good coverage! This is false, as the only method that effectively controls the disease is by using smaller droplets and low volumes of 5–10 lts/ha (0.5-1 gal/ac) with the addition of oil to control evaporation. Another clear example of the benefits
of using LV or ULV is the control of spider mites. Many labels specify high volumes of 50-80 lts/ha (5-8 gal/ ac) and yet the proven most effective method is with low volumes of 3-8 lts/ ha (0.3-0.8 gal/ac) with crop oils. I have been working with low volumes worldwide and remain absolutely convinced that it is the only method for reliable pest and disease control under adverse conditions. I’m not advocating applications being made off-label. Instead, I am pointing out that LV and ULV applications work with no more risk to drift than high volume applications if made properly. That being said, it would be prudent for chemical companies to provide the aerial application industry with LV and ULV application labels. On a more humorous note, a significant number of applicators and clients who work with me in Argentina promoting low volumes are often referred to as “Martians” with proven ideas that are poles apart from others who are referred to as “Dinosaurs”. We all know what happened to them.

Aerial Pine Seeding by Helicopter by Wes Kay, Aerial Spray Manager, Expedition Helicopters Fashor Yu, AgNav, Inc. / Lai Nguyen, P.Eng., AgNav, Inc.

With catastrophic wildfires happening in many places in the world, forest protection and reforestation are big concerns for countries that have wet and dry weather that varies, such as the United States, Canada and Australia. This year millions of hectares of wildlands and forests were burned. People lost homes and even their lives. Wild animals lost their habitats, as seen in recent Australian wildfires. The damages accumulated to billions of dollars. After wildfires, forests must be restored to return the ecological climates for local residents and habitats for animals. Like other developed countries, each year Canada spends millions of dollars to manage forests, keep them healthy, make them more resilient to insects and diseases and replant trees after harvest. It has been proven that aerial application plays a critical
role in forest management. In January 2019, Expedition Helicopters, a company based in Cochrane Ontario, Canada, won a bid for aerial seeding programs on forests in the Northwestern Region of Ontario. This project involved seeding a total 1,164 hectares (4,657 acres) of pine forests in northern Ontario. The program planning commenced mid-March and the actual seeding carried out by mid-April 2019. The challenge for applicators was the seeding rate was so small, only 75 to 125 grams of seeds per hectare (0.067 to 0.11 lbs/acre). The existing system used a tank having an orifice plate on the dispensing gate to spread seeds. The orifice size was calibrated on the ground to the desired amount of seeds per minute. Every time the seeding rate was changed, the
INTERNATIONAL
orifice had to be calibrated again. This method worked, assuming the pilot could always maintain the same aircraft ground speed when spreading. This was tough for the pilot, especially when there was wind. Considering application precision, this method exposed a few major problems. First, the amount of seeds released at any time was not measurable during flight and not controllable based on aircraft speed. Due to gravity, more seeds might be released when the tanks were full than when the tanks were half full or almost empty. Upon winning the tender, Wes Kay, the Aerial Spraying Division Manager for Expedition Helicopters, contacted AgNav, Inc to discuss how to make a better system for pine seed spreading at the required rate. Kay brought to AgNav a bucket of pine seeds to test with the AgNav granular flow controller (GFC) which includes a universal flow control (UFC) box and two rotary dispensers manufactured by AgNav. The dispenser works as a rotary metering gate for the Isolair granular applicator and consists of a DC gear ratio motor, encoder and impeller. In the past, the AgNav GFC has been used mostly for mosquito control to spread granules for larviciding.
this rate, the GFC motor turned only 1 to 1.5 revolutions per minute (RPM). This rotational speed was too slow to control the existing GFC. During the test, when the GFC speed was less than three RPMs, the motor operated in a pulsating pattern, i.e. stop and go.
AgNav GFC dispenser with a standard impeller
AgNav GFC dispenser with modified impeller
AgNav Granular Flow Controller
After working with Expedition Helicopters for the GFC calibration, it was found the impeller dispensed around 125 grams of seeds per revolution. With the helicopter having a swath width of 18m (60ft), flying at 100 km/h (60MPH), the pilot covered 3.0 hectares per minute. At the required rate of 75 to 125 grams of seeds per hectare, the pilot needed to spread 225 to 375 grams per minute (g/min). The helicopter was equipped with two Isolair tanks. Each tank spread 113 to 188 g/min. At
To make the GFC work for Kay, AgNav engineers first modified the impeller by making shallower petals and adding spacers in a way that seeds were still be released evenly, but at a smaller amount with the impeller turning. The goal was to increase the motor’s speed so it would run smoothly. After a few modifications, the final impeller dispensed 62 grams of seeds per revolution. The GFC ran better, but still pulsated. Due to low kinetic energy at a very low speed, friction and load change could cause the motor speed to vary significantly. A tiny adjustment caused the motor to run too fast or too slow. The proportional–integral– derivative (PID) controlling algorithm used in GFC firmware was fine tuned to allow the motor to run smoothly at a speed below three RPM. The 24V motors used in a standard GFC were replaced with 12V higher gear ratio motors to gain better accuracy. This helped reduce speed oscillation and converged to a target speed twice as faster. Navigate software in the AgNav guidance system was also modified to allow the pilot to enter a small application and display rate value in grams for monitoring. The final system worked well. After installing the GFC into the helicopter’s Isolair tanks, Kay calibrated it again and demonstrated the system to the seeding program supervisors. One of the treated areas was flown by using flight simulation. The aircraft speed was varying from 100 to 120 km/h. When the helicopter entered the area, the GFC automatically ran the motors to release seeds into collection containers. When the helicopter exited the area or was over an exclusion zone, the GFC stopped the motors. When one pass was completed, the next pass was selected automatically. The auto-spray feature in the AgNav guidance system eliminated the human error when operating the spray on/off function at boundaries. This helped significantly when the spray boundary was not clearly seen because of the forest canopy. After finishing an area, seeds in the collection containers were weighed. According to Kay, the released weights were perfectly matched with the ideal weight that was prescribed for the area. The spreading system was approved for the program. In April 2019 when weather allowed, Kay carried out the seeding program. During the mission, aircraft speed varied from 95 to 120 km/h when spreading seeds. There were some minor problems found due to installation that caused seeds to leak through a small gap. When this was fixed, the GFC calibration was correct. To overcome friction, GFC motors had to run at a speed higher than the target speed. It took only about a second to stabilize and meet the
target speed. For this reason, there were some minor errors for short passes or passes having several cut-offs or segments. After two days of applications, Kay finished the seeding program successfully. The spray data was submitted to program supervisors for replay, verification, report and analysis.
Pine seeded coverage on treated areas
Kay met with AgNav again after the program to provide feedback. Based on his inputs, AgNav engineers continued working on the GFC to improve its performance even further. A new impeller suitable for ultra-low spread rate was designed. The goal was to increase motor speeds to 10 RPM or more for better, precise control. The newly designed GFC will be ready in 2020 for aerial seeding applications. The aerial pine seeding of the Northwestern Ontario program proved that when facing challenges, companies could find a solution when working together. More than ever, it’s our responsibility to maintain forests in a good growth environment, keeping them a lush green, not only for our benefit, but also for generations to come.
