Eccleshill United: A History

Formed in 1948, Eccleshill played in the Bradford Amateur League and the West Riding County Amateur League. In 1985, they joined the Northern Counties East League Division Three. They finished 3rd and were moved up to Division Two when the league scrapped Division Three. Eccleshill finished 2nd in 1987 and were promoted to Division One. Another league re-organisation moved Eccleshill up to the Premier Division in 1991, they were relegated in 1994. Eccleshill were promoted back to the Premier Division after winning the Division 1 title in 1997 and stayed there until they were relegated in 2009. In the F A Cup, Eccleshill have never been further than the 2nd Qualifying Round, though they did win 2–1 at Northern Premier League Guiseley in 2001–02 and held another NPL side, Marine to a 2–2 draw the following season before losing the replay. In the FA Vase, Eccleshill reached the 5th Round in 1999–2000, losing to Vauxhall Motors. Eccleshill reached the West Riding County Cup final in 2000, losing to Garforth 0–2. Eccleshill also won the Bradford FA Cup in 1986. As of 3 July 2010, Bradford City announced that they would play their all their home reserve team games for the 2010–11 season at Plumpton Park. In season 2010–11 former professional footballer Ian Banks took over as manager with Grant Crookes as his assistant after they both left AFC Emley whom they managed for the past two seasons. In late 2014, Gerard Jones took over as head coach from Mark Tinker having been promoted from within, where he was previously the U18s and Reserve Team Manager.

Last Time We Met Saturday 19th September 2015

Hull United AFC 1-1 Eccleshill United Agnew, 73

Cooper, 87

227 people watched at Dene Park as Hull United and Eccleshill United played out a 1-1 draw. Both sides left it until late to score, with both goals coming in the later period of the game. Brett Agnew scored first with just over 15 minutes to go, and looking like grabbing United’s fifth win on the bounce. However it wasn’t to be as Andy Cooper netted the equalizer and United had to settle for a draw as they continued their unbeaten start to the season. The Citizens will be keen to go one better when the sides meet on Saturday. Hoping to bounce back from defeat to Ferriby last time out.

A Quick Word Here we go again, our away day bandwagon heads to Bradford this weekend and Eccleshill United. I’m starting to really enjoy all these away days, it’s like the club on tour! It’s not ideal with some fans not able to make it to Bradford, but I’m trying to change the way we broadcast games so you at home can still get a feel of what’s going on. I had a go at the Twitter feed at the weekend and I messed a couple of things up, but these things take practice and I’ll sort them out I promise. Last week wasn’t our best performance as we crashed out the cup, but oh well we’re still in with a shout of promotion! and I don’t see why we won’t be there come the end of the season. It’s great to see so many of you turn out every week to follow the team, Curtis, Ash and the lads do appreciate it, and our strong fanbase can only go from strength to strength. The squad depth we have at the moment is also a strong sign, with Tom Giblin and Paul Foot coming into a strong defence with Plums, James Piercy etc. I feel sorry for Curtis having to pick only 11 players! So let’s try and get behind the lads again as we travel for another exciting game. We are United, and three points may well be ours come Saturday night, hope to see you all there! Last Time Out Hull United 1 (Bradshaw, 83) North Ferriby United 2 (Spence, 24, Ansu, 74) Hull United crashed out of the East Riding Senior FA Cup after defeat to North Ferriby United in the quarter finals. Ferriby succeeded 2-1 thanks to two well taken goals, with Gary Bradshaw giving United hope and James Piercy seeing a goal disallowed for offside in the closing minutes. Neither side could get a foothold of the game in the opening period, with both sides trying to gain momentum. However midway through the first half Ferriby, who fielded their reserve side, took the lead. The ball was crossed into the area and was fumbled into the net, which only managed to make United work harder. A good two or three chances went begging for United before half time. Curtis Woodhouse’s players were doing everything right in all areas of the pitch, but no one could find that clinical edge in the final third, and that was to be United’s downfall. United striker Bradshaw almost equalised for the Citizens when a great run into the area from James Piercy ended with his shot being blocked and Bradshaw’s rebound went over the bar. A few more chances from United, including runs from Tom Bennet and Matty Start being stopped by the Ferriby ‘keeper. The hosts were made to pay for their lack of finishing as Ferriby went two up thanks to a tap in in the area. It looked like game over with United struggling to find that all important goal. However ten minutes later Bradshaw latched onto a cross and tapped it past the ‘keeper, he collided with Bradshaw and after staying down for a moment the striker was back up and running. The final ten minutes were all United and they pressured Ferriby, with Piercy placing a wonderfully taken shot past the ‘keeper, only to be ruled out for offside, and meaning United went out of the cup at the quarter final stage.
