The Importance Of Safety Nets For Construction Sites
Widely used throughout today’s construction industry, safety nets are an integral aspect of health and safety on busy, often dangerous, construction sites. Though inexpensive as they are, safety nets remain an incredibly effective means of providing anyone on site with a safe way to work without the fear of falling or being struck by debris.
Being able to contain debris and keep personnel safe is essential for any construction site, and contractors and managers alike need to minimize the risk of any accidents happening. This isn’t just to keep workers, visitors and pedestrian and vehicle users safe, but also to protect them from costly lawsuits should anyone be injured on or near the site, or experience damage to a vehicle or other form of property.

Available in a range of different materials and designs, most safety nets used throughout India today are either horizontal or vertical, with both serving unique purposes on a construction site. Let’s look at them both in a little more detail:
Horizontal safety nets
Sometimes referred to as perimeter debris netting, horizontal safety nets installed on construction sites are designed to catch items that have fallen from above, and in the worst case scenario, catch people who may have fallen. Objects that may fall from a great height on a construction site include bricks, concrete blocks, tools and equipment and any number of other items of general debris, and you can imagine that any of those items falling from a great height, could have catastrophic consequences for anyone or anything, below. Should a person fall from a great height on a construction site, they’re unlikely to survive the force of the impact when they plunge to the ground, should a safety net not be installed.
Thanks to their heavy duty grade, horizontal safety netting for construction sites are a godsend for preventing a variety of accidents from happening, and as work progresses upwards, they can be moved effortlessly to a higher position.
Vertical safety nets
A common sight on almost all construction sites in India, green vertical safety netting is installed to provide a high level of non-invasive protection for anyone working on the building, or inspecting it, for example. It’s often installed on ledges where it acts as a guardrail system, and gives essential protection from falling debris, tools or materials, to anyone or anything below the building. Easy to both install and remove, vertical safety netting can also be stored with minimal fuss, and is a highly cost-effective form of safety for areas where the risk of falling is significant.
No construction site should be without some form of safety netting, and with its affordability and ease of installation – not to mention its effectiveness – there’s no reason not to have it installed before any construction work gets underway.
