JOE JENSEN

(Wyoming, 1998) Director of Golf & Men’s Head Coach The Wyoming Cowboy golf program is in its 18th season under the direction of Joe Jensen. In addition to serving as the head coach of the men’s golf program, Jensen is in his 14th year as Director of UW Men’s & Women’s Golf.

Jensen has directed the Cowboy golf program during one of the most competitive eras in UW’s 70-year men’s golf history. Under Jensen’s direction the Cowboys have set school records for low individual round and event score, as well as low team round and event score.

The 2017-18 season saw the Cowboys tie their best finish at the Mountain West Conference Championship, tying for fifth place. It was the first time since 2002 that the Pokes had finished that high at the conference championship. During the season, Wyoming captured the team title at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, and Cowboy junior John Murdock was the individual medalist at the Gene Miranda. UW also won the Mackenzie Match Play event hosted by the University of San Francisco. In the summer of 2018, Murdock became only the second amateur in the 62-year history of the Wyoming Open to win the event. Murdock also finished as the first alternate in the U.S. Amateur Qualifier hosted at Wyoming’s Glenn “Red” Jacoby Golf Course.

It was the first time a U.S. Amateur had been hosted at Jacoby. Murdock placed third at the 2018 Wyoming State Amateur. Sophomore Dan Starzinski won the 2018 Wyoming Match Play Championship in June. Both Murdock and Starzinski earned spots on the three-man state of Wyoming team that played in the Pacific Coast Amateur at The Olympic Club in San Francisco in July. For the seventh consecutive season, Wyoming was named an All-Academic Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Cowboy senior Arron Lickteig, Quintin Pope and Glenn Workman and junior Murdock were all named All-America scholars by the GCAA. Those four were joined by senior Drew McCullough, Starzinski and freshman Carl Underwood as Academic All-Conference selections. Murdock, Starzinski, Workman and junior Cole Bundy also earned MW Scholar Athlete honors.

In 2016-17, Jensen coached senior Ryan Wallen to one of the most successful individual seasons for a Cowboy golfer in UW history. Wallen recorded the best finish ever for a Cowboy at the MW Championships, posting a three-round score of 209 (-7) to tie for third place individually as the Cowboys took eighth as a team. Wallen qualified for the NCAA Division I men’s golf regional in Sam­mamish, Wash., becoming the first Cowboy golfer to advance to regional competition since Gabe Maier in 2011. He tied for 38th overall, the best finish among individual qualifiers at the regional. The Cowboys had another successful campaign in the classroom, receiving their sixth straight All-Academic team award from the GCAA, while Wallen, Arron Lickteig, Drew McCullough and Glenn Workman were each named GCAA All-America Scholars. Meanwhile, seven Cowboys earned Academic All-Mountain West distinctions while four were named MW Scholar Athletes.

In 2015-16, Jensen was named the MW Coach of the Year after he led the Pokes to eight top-five finishes, six of which were in the top-three. UW’s sixth-place finish at this year’s MW Championships was its best since the Pokes took sixth in 2005. Sophomore Drew McCullough became just the seventh Cowboy to finish in the top-ten in the 17 years UW has competed in the MW Championship, and on April 6, Jensen helped junior Ryan Wallen become the first MW Golfer of the Week since David Hearn earned the award on April 20, 2000. Academically, the men’s golf team was one of two teams at Wyoming to post a perfect APR score of 1,000.

It marked the fourth consecutive reporting period that the Cowboy golf team recorded a perfect score based on its four-year average.

A native of Lander, Wyo. and a former member of the UW golf team, Jensen earned his bachelor’s degree in arts and sciences from the Uni­versity of Wyoming in 1998 and completed his MBA at UW in December of 2006.

In addition to his coaching duties, Jensen manages and is the head golf professional at Glenn “Red” Jacoby Golf Club at the University of Wyo­ming. Jensen, 45 (born April 10, 1970) was hired as the Cowboy golf coach on Dec. 7, 2001 and named Director of Wyoming Golf on Aug. 18, 2005.

“I’m excited about my role as director of both Wyoming Golf programs,” Jensen said. “We are working hard and I’m pleased with the direc­tion of both the men’s and women’s programs.

“It’s such a privilege to be a part of the Wyoming Athletics program and to bring student-athletes to UW and Laramie. I enjoy working at the school I graduated from, in my home state, and in a place where I have so many friends and family.”

Jensen was a member of the Cowboy golf team during the 1992-93 season, turned professional in 1993, and became an assistant golf pro at the Jacoby Golf Club. During his six years in that position, he was responsible for the daily operation of the course. His duties also included serving as an assistant coach with the golf team.

In 1999, Jensen moved to the Pelican Lakes Golf and Country Club in Windsor, Colo., where he was a golf assistant until he was hired by Wyo­ming. There he assisted in the daily operation of the golf course and coordinated a number of golf tournaments. He also taught group and junior golf lessons. In addition to his golf club duties, he was a financial representative for Northwestern Mutual Financial Network and later worked for the Bank of Colorado/Raymond James Financial Services in Fort Collins, Colo.

The 2013-14 season was another successful year for the Cowboys. Jensen guided the Pokes to a second-consecutive team victory at the Battle of the Tetons, his second win as head coach of the Cowboys. Junior Kamrin Allen shot a 210 (-6) to earn his first individual title as a Cowboy, it also marked the fifth individual event victory with Jensen as coach. Wyoming also turned in a third-place finish at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invite. The pokes were led by senior Brent Baylon who tied his career-best 69 (-3) in the final round and finished tied for 10th place with fellow senior Eddie Stewart. Freshman Ryan Wallen became the first Cowboy to lead the team at the Mountain West Conference Championship since Gabe Maier in 2008. Wallen shot a career-best 218 (+5) to finish tied 18th. The Cowboys also earned their second-consecutive NCAA Public Recognition Award for its outstanding Academic Progress Rate (APR) that finished ranked in the top 10 percent of all NCAA teams in their respective sport.

Jensen once again led UW to success on and off the course during the 2012-13 season. Success on the course included the Cowboys winning their first tournament since 2000, when UW took the team title at the Battle in the Tetons with a school-record 847 (-17). Also at that event, junior Eddie Stewart took the first individual medalist honors since 2009. It was the fourth individual event victory during Jensen’s tenure. Stewart’s 208 (-8) also tied for the third-best tournament score in school history.

Jensen directed the 2012-13 Cowboys to their fourth-consecutive Golf Coaches Association of America All-Academic team award for having a team grade point average of 3.0 or better. The Cowboys were one of 79 teams honored from NCAA Division I and one of just two schools from the Mountain West in 2012-13.

Junior Eric Parish was also named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Parish was the 10th Cowboy to receive the prestigious honor.

The 2011-12 Cowboys had a team GPA of 3.39. Cowboys Jake Hedge, Eric Parish, Case Ruff and Eddie Stewart earned Academic All-Mountain West honors.

Parish and Ruff also earned MW Scholar-Athlete awards. He also helped junior Clinton Boutelle to a 15th place finish at the Mountain West Championship.

In 2010-11 Jensen directed senior Gabe Maier to his second consecutive NCAA Regional Tournament appearance. Maier was the first Cowboy since current PGA tour player David Hearn to earn consecutive NCAA Regional appearances. Maier also tied the school record low round at the Cowboy Classic in Scottsdale, Ariz., firing a 63 (-7). For the third consecutive season Jensen helped lead the Cowboys to a Golf Coaches Association of America All-Academic team. Cowboys Phil Henzlik, Parish and Ruff earned Mountain West Scholar-Athlete awards. Wyoming golf also had four student-athletes selected Academic All-MW, including Henzlik, Maier, Ruff and Zach Zaremba.

The 2009-10 season was a banner year for the Cowboys as they sent their first golfer to the NCAA Regional Tournament since 2002, as well as being named a Golf Coaches Association of America All-Academic team. Cowboy Gabe Maier earned UW’s first NCAA Regional Tournament berth since 2002 with his 12th place finish at the Mountain West Conference Championship.

Also during the 2009-10 season the Cowboys were named a GCAA All-Academic Team with a combined GPA of 3.18. Cowboy golfers Hen­zlik, Maier, Zaremba and Ruff were all named Academic All-MWC. Henzlik and Ruff also earned MWC Scholar-Athlete Awards. In addition to the numerous school records, the Wyoming golf program added two individual tournament championships in 2009. In the summer of 2009, Jensen was involved in the Palmer Cup, which is college golf’s version of the Ryder Cup. The event, which pits 10 American college players against 10 college players from Europe, was played at Cherry Hills Country Club in Denver, Colo. For his efforts with the Palmer Cup, Jensen was recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of America in December of that year.

In 2007, the Cowgirls hosted the first annual Cowgirl Classic during the same week as the men’s event. The Cowgirls’ event will be held for the ninth consecutive season during the spring of 2015 at the Ak Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz. In addition to the Cowboy and Cowgirl Classics held each spring in the Phoenix area, the Cowboys began hosting the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate tournament in 2008. The sixth annual Desert Intercollegiate was held on Feb. 21-23, 2013 at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif. The Classic Club is the host course of the PGA’s Bob Hope Chrysler Classic.

In 2003, his second as head coach of the Cowboys, Jensen initiated the UW/Cleveland Golf Cowboy Classic Collegiate tournament. The event is held each spring in Scottsdale, Ariz., and hosts many of the top college golf programs in the country. The 2005 tournament marked Jensen’s Cowboy squad’s best finish with a second-place finish of the 20 teams in the event.

Jensen’s teams annually excel in the classroom, as evident in 2005 and 2006 when Cowboy golfer Dan Silva was named a Cleveland Golf All- America Scholar by the GCAA in back-to-back years. In 2010, Phil Henzlik, Gabe Maier and Zach Zaremba were recognized for the honor, as Parish joined the list of Cowboys named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar in 2013.

During his first two seasons as head coach, Jensen coached All-Southwest Region selection Mike Urbatchka in 2002 and All-America Scholar honoree Kurt Kowaluk in 2003. His teams have also been recognized for their efforts off the course by winning the Athletics Director Award two times. The annual award, which is based on excellence in athletics, team GPA and community service, was given to the Cowboy golf team in 2001-02 and 2002-03.

Active within the community, Jensen is currently on the University of Wyoming Academic Planning Committee. He is also Chairman of the Board of the UW First Tee Chapter, a nationally recognized junior golf program primarily supported by the PGA and USTA with a curriculum of life skills and golf skills. Jensen was instrumental in organizing UW’s First Tee program and served as the chapter’s executive director for a year.

Jensen and his wife, Lacey, have a son, Samuel, and a daughter, Sydney.

JOSEY STENDER

(Memphis, 2003) Assistant Director of Golf & Women’s Head Coach Josey Stender enters her 14th season at the helm for the University of Wyoming women’s golf team in 2018-19. Stender has served as head coach of the Cowgirls and assistant director of Wyoming golf since August of 2005. The UW program has grown in leaps and bounds on the golf course during Stender’s tenure, while also continuing its tradition of achievements in the academic realm. Much of the success comes from Stender’s coaching philosophy, which exemplifies her compassion for molding young adults.

In 2017-18, the Cowgirls recorded a couple of top-five finishes and a win at the Lady Thunderbird Invitational. At the Thunderbird, the Pokes recorded a final-round score of 292 (+4) to take home a two-shot victory at the event. The final round team score tied for second-best in Cowgirl history and the win was the first for UW since the fall of 2008. Stender helped guide senior Gabrielle Gibson to a strong final season as a Cowgirl with five top-10 individual finishes, including a win at the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational.

Gibson recorded a 74.7 stroke average during her senior season. The 2017-18 season also saw impressive performances from sophomore Erin Sargent and junior Megan Knadler, who each recorded top-10 finishes during their campaigns. Sargent, Sarah Hankins and Caitlyn Skavdahl each earned All-American Scholar honors as well.

The 2016-17 season concluded with UW earning five top-five finishes in its ten tournaments. The Cowgirls finished seventh at the MW Championships with a three-round total of 925 (+61). It was the second-best team score for the Brown and Gold in the 18 MW Championships they’ve competed in. Erin Sargent led the way for the Brown and Gold and tied for 21st in the individual rankings. With Sargent’s top-individual finish, it became the second-straight year a freshman has led UW at the championship. Gabrielle Gibson closed out her junior campaign with a 75.7 stroke average for second all-time in a single season. Additionally, senior Mackenzie Barrie closed out her final season with a 76.6 stroke average, as Sargent recorded a 76.7 average. Barrie’s season average is fifth-best in UW history. Sarah Hankins was joined by Barrie, Megan Knadler and Sargent as WGCA All-American Scholars. With four honorees, it was the most All-American Scholars Wyoming has had in the same year.

The 2015-16 season UW was highlighted by a couple top-five finishes for the Cowgirls. Wyoming claimed second at the Bobcat Spring Invite and a fourth-place finish at the Grand Canyon Invite. At the GCU Invite, Stender guided Gibson to a second-place finish, which was the best of her career. It also became the top-individual finish for a Cowgirl since Juanita Rico finished second at the Guistana Memorial Classic in 2011. Just before conference play, UW was led by four Cowgirls in the top-20 at the Bobcat Spring Invite, with Klara Castillo and Kaylee Knadler each tied for fifth place. Additionally, Wyoming’s three-round total (894 +30) at the Bobcat Spring Invite was the fourth-best 54-hole score in program history. The third-round score of 294 (+6) was a season best and the third lowest in Cowgirl history.

“I value the idea that members of our Wyoming golf team have a great college experience on and off the course,” she said of her athletes.

“I look for well-rounded student-athletes who are willing to work hard to accomplish their goals athletically, while also striving to excel in the classroom for their future.”

Stender’s list of achievements while directing the Cowgirls include helping the program rewrite the Wyoming record book and garnering multiple team and individual honors. Under her tutelage, the Cowgirls have posted their top-seven lowest team event scores and team round scores, including setting the best marks in both categories at the 2008 CU/Heather Farr Memorial. In the final round UW shot a 291 (+3), which gave them a score of 891 (+27) for the tournament. The Wyoming women also picked up their first team win in 10 years with a title at the Bronco Fall Invitational in 2008, while posting their first back-to-back, top-three team finishes during the 2011-12 season.

Individually, several members of the UW women’s golf team have shined with the help of Stender. Juanita Rico set the Cowgirl record for lowest individual season stroke average at 75.5 during 2011-12, as she also became just the second UW woman to earn Mountain West Golfer of the Month accolades. Five of UW’s top six golfers in stroke average competed under Stender, while UW’s top three lowest individual rounds and top six lowest individual event scores have come with her guidance. Stender also coached Jonelle Martinez, who was one of the most accomplished golfers in Wyoming history. Martinez became the second Cowgirl to win an individual Mountain West Championship by claiming the title in 2009 and was named to the First Team All-Conference squad as well.

In the classroom, the Cowgirls have earned a total of 31 Academic All-Mountain West honors and 12 MW Scholar-Athlete Awards during Stender’s tenure. Eight student-athletes have also been named All-American Scholars by the National Golf Coaches Association under Stender.

UW COACHING STAFF Stender has also helped broaden the name of Wyoming golf by hosting several big-name tournaments. The program hosted the sixthannual Wyoming Cowgirl Classic at the Ocotillo Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz., during the spring of 2012 and held the first-annual Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate at The Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif., during the fall of 2011.

Stender came to UW from Boise, Idaho, where she had been the communications director for the Idaho Golf Association. A collegiate golfer at the University of Memphis from 1998-2003, she served as a graduate assistant intern in the fall of 2003. Formerly Josey Edwards, she married Jeff Stender on Aug. 20, 2005. Josey and Jeff, an assistant principal at Laramie Junior High, have a son named Griffin, born in July 2008, and twins Jovee and Porter, born in March 2010.

Stender earned her bachelor’s degree in education, with an emphasis on sports and leisure studies/sports management from Memphis in 2001, and then earned her Master’s of Science in sports and leisure commerce from Memphis in 2004. An accomplished student, she received numerous academic honors during her playing career, including being named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-Scholar Athlete team three times; 1999-2000, 2001-02 and 2002-03.

Stender, originally is from Idaho, and there, had a successful amateur golf career.

She won three state high school titles and earned the 1999 Idaho Women’s Amateur Championship, as well as being named the Rocky Mountain PGA Female Amateur Golfer of the Year that same year. She was a member of the USGA Idaho State Team in 2003, and was a participant at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship in 2004. Stender was runner-up in the 2001 Pacific Northwest Golf Association Women’s Amateur Championship.

She currently is an apprentice for the LPGA Teaching and Club Professional Division.

RYAN WALLEN (Wyoming, 2016) Graduate Assistant Coach

Ryan Wallen joined the Wyoming Golf coaching staff as a graduate assistant coach in 2017-18 after a decorated career as a Cowboy. He will assist Joe Jensen with the Cowboy golfers and Josey Stender with the Cowgirl golfers, traveling with both the men’s and women’s teams. Wallen graduated from UW in 2017 with a degree in management. 2016-17 (Senior): Wallen had one of the most successful seasons for a Cowboy golfer in recent history, advancing to the NCAA Washington Regional to become the first Cowboy to earn a regional bid since Gabe Maier in 2011. Wallen matched the best finish ever for a Cowboy at a conference championship, tying for third at the 2017 Mountain West Championship with a three-round score of 207 (-9). Another of his eight top-25 finishes came at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, where he posted his low round of the year at 65 (-7) to tie for the third-best single-round score in UW history.

His three-round total of 206 (-10) at the event earned him a second-place finish as he matched Maier for the second-lowest individual event score in Wyoming history. Wallen’s brilliant tournament helped the Cowboys set an all-time program record for lowest team event score at 845 (-19). Wallen’s two other top-10 finishes came at the USAF Gen Miranda Invitational (T-8th) and Paintbrush Invitational (T-9th). After his all-conference performance, Wallen battled rainy weather in his home state to tie for 38th at the NCAA Washington Regional with a score of 223 (+10), finishing as the top individual qualifier. His stroke average of 72.08 over 36 rounds was a career low and led the team, replacing his previous best of 72.39 in the third-place spot on UW’s all-time list. 2015-16 (Junior): Ryan Wallen had another stellar season with the Pokes. He played all 33 rounds and finished second on the team with a 72.4 stroke average. On April 6, Wallen was tabbed the Men’s Mountain West Golfer of the Week for his performance at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, where he tied for fifth with a 208 (-8). It was is his first MW honor and Wyoming’s first since David Hearn on April 20, 2000. He opened the season at the USAF Gene Miranda Invitational where he tied for 18th with a 217 (+1). At the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, Wallen tied for 5th after a three-round total of 212 (+2).

The following week at the Cowboys Southern Dunes tournament, he tied tenth with a 217 (+1). At the MW Championships, Wallen was second for the Pokes as he tied for 15th. He shot a 214 (-2) for UW at the championships. 2014-15 (Sophomore): As a sophomore, Wallen played in all 12 events for the Cowboys during the 2014-15 season. He led the Pokes three different times in his second season as a Cowboy.

Wallen had the second best stroke average on the team, as he finished with an average of 74.6 per round. He played in 35 total rounds and started his season strong at the Battle in the Tetons. He fired a career low during the first round with a score of 68 (-4). Wallen recorded his lowest tournament score of 212 (-4) at the BYU Ping Cougar Classic. His performance at the BYU Ping Cougar Classic was also his best finish of his career, as he tied for third. He wrapped up the season at the Mountain West Championship where he tied for 40th, which came to be UW’s third best score of the tournament. Wallen added three top-25 finishes during his sophomore season, and now has four total for his career. 2013-14 (Freshman): Wallen played his first seven events as an individual for the Cowboys before working his way into the lineup.

Wallen had his best round of the fall at the Ram Masters Invitational where he fired a 71 (+1). He tied for 34th, which was his best finish of the fall with a three-round total of 219 (+9). He completed the fall season with a 77 stroke average after playing in all five events as an individual. While at the University of Arizona National Invitational Tournament, Wallen became the first Cowboy competing as an individual to finish highest for UW since redshirt freshman Jake Hedge in 2011. He led Wyoming twice during his freshman season, at the UA NIT where he shot a 223 (+7) and at the Mountain West Championship where he fired a 218 (+5). He became the second Cowboy to lead the team as a freshman at the MW Championship, when he tied for 18th and also shot his career-best round of 70 (-1). For the year, he participated in all 10 events and carried the fourth-best stroke average at 76.1, while recording one top-20 finish.

LIAM CLANCY

Freshman Billings, Mont. (Central Catholic) 2018-19 (Freshman): Liam Clancy is redshirting his freshman season at the University of Wyoming.

High School: Clancy hails from Billings, Mont., where he played for coach Mark Hutchinson at Billings Central Catholic High School. He won the Montana State Class A individual championship as a sophomore in 2015, leading his team to a state title. He finished as the state runner-up as a junior and senior, and placed third at the state championships his freshman year. Clancy took fifth place at the 2017 Montana State Junior Championship, and tied for the second alternate spot in the 2017 U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier in South Dakota.

Clancy was also an outstanding student in high school, achieving a 3.5 cumulative grade-point average.

Personal: Born May 18, 1999, he is the son of Diane and Pat Clancy. His sister, Kyla (Clancy) Lien, played college golf at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, and is currently the head men’s and women’s golf coach at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho. Clancy is planning on majoring in business.

KIRBY COE-KIRKHAM Freshman Sheridan, Wyo. (Sheridan)

2018-19 (Freshman): Kirby Coe-Kirkham competed in all six fall tournaments for the Wyoming Cowboys. He posted three Top 25 finishes his true freshman season.

Coe-Kirkham placed 23rd at the University of Denver Paintbrush Invitational, finished 14th at the University of Colorado Mark Simpson Invite and posted his highest finish of 13th at the University of New Mexico William H. Tucker Invitational. CoeKirkham finished the fall season with a stroke average of 72.67, which was third best for the Cowboys behind only senior John Murdock (72.50) and junior Dan Starzinski (71.44). His low individual round was a 69 (-2) in the first round of the Ka’anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational hosted by the University of Hawai’i. Coe-Kirkham’s lowest threeround tournament total was a 216 (Even) at the William H. Tucker.

Coe-Kirkham won Part One of the Junior America’s Cup Qualifier in June 2018, missing qualifying for the IMG Junior World Championships by only two strokes. He was very involved in extracurricular activities outside of golf, having served as the National Junior Honor Society president and sophomore class student council president at Sheridan High. He made the Principal’s Honor Roll while taking a variety of Advanced Placement classes. Coe-Kirkham played for coach Larry Martoglio at Sheridan High School.

2018-19 (Freshman): Jimmy Dales played in all six fall tournaments during his first semester of college competition. Dales best 54-hole tournament scores of the fall were both 7-over par totals at the Air Force Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational and the University of Hawai’i’s Ka’anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational. His best individual finish of the fall season was 46th place at the University of Colorado Mark Simpson Invitational. Dales also shot his low round of the fall, an even-par round 72, in the final round of the Simpson Invitational. He finished the fall season with a 76.94 stroke average.

High School: Dales joined the Cowboy golf team from Northville High School in Northville, Mich. He came to Wyoming as a very experienced golfer on the amateur circuit. Dales won the IMG Junior World Qualifier in South Lyon, Mich. He also captured the Michigan Junior Amateur Qualifier in Novi, Mich., and the Golfweek Junior Tour event at Forest Akers, a course owned by Michigan State University. Dales carded rounds of 70 and 69 to take third in the Michigan Junior Amateur in the summer of 2018, and was runner-up at the Golfweek Junior Tour event at the University of Michigan in October 2017. In 2016, he won the U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier in Medina, Ohio, and also was the individual medalist at the Hurricane Junior Tour College Prep Series in Indiana. Dales was an Honorable Mention All-State selection in Michigan. He also earned First Team All-Conference for the Kensington Lakes Activities Association (KLAA). Dales received multiple All-Area distinctions from local media outlets. He played for coach Chris Cronin at Northville High.

Personal: His parents are Jen and Jim Dales. He is majoring in business economics.

JARED EDEEN

Redshirt Freshman Cheyenne, Wyo. (Cheyenne Central) 2018-19: Jared Edeen competed in four of six fall tournaments for the Cowboys. He played in the Air Force Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, the Colorado State Ram Masters Invite, the University of Colorado Mark Simpson Invitational and the University of Denver Paintbrush Invite. Edeen shot his best tournament total of 229 (+13) in both the Falcon Invitational and the Simpson Invite. His low round of the fall season was an even-par round of 72 in the second round of the Falcon Invitational. Edeen concluded the fall season with a 77.25 stroke average.

2017-18: Edeen redshirted his freshman season at the University of Wyoming.

High School: Edeen was a four-year letterwinner and two-time All-State honoree at Cheyenne Central High School in Cheyenne, Wyo. As a senior, he tied for fourth place at the Class 4A Wyoming State Championship. Edeen also finished fifth at the 4A State Championship as a junior, tied for 13th as a sophomore and tied for 20th as a freshman. In the summer of 2015, Edeen was a member of a state of Wyoming foursome that placed second at the Junior Americas Cup at Pine Canyon Golf Club in Flagstaff, Ariz. That was the best finish by a Wyoming team in the history of the event. Edeen played for head golf coach Mike Lepore at Cheyenne Central High. Edeen also lettered four years in ice hockey, and was named team captain of his ice hockey team as a senior.

Personal: Edeen plays golf left-handed. He was born on July 19, 1998, and is the son of Dan and Rachel. He comes from a family with a rich history in UW Athletics, as his father Dan Edeen, uncles Dave Edeen and Ryan Oman and brother Seth Edeen all played football for the Cowboys. JOHN MURDOCK Senior Laramie, Wyo. (Laramie)

2018-19 (Senior): John Murdock had an impressive summer leading into his senior season at Wyoming, and continued that success through the 2018 fall season. Murdock captured the Wyoming State Open championship in the summer of 2018, becoming only the second amateur in the 62-year history of the event to win the title. He finished as the First Alternate at the 2018 U.S. Amateur Qualifier played in Laramie, Wyo., and placed third at the 2018 Wyoming State Amateur Championship.

Murdock Career Statistics was one of three members of the state of Wyoming team that played in the Pacific Coast Amateur at The Olympic Year 2015-16 2016-17 2017-18 2018-19 Career Club in San Francisco in July 2018. 2017-18 (Junior): Murdock enjoyed an outstanding junior season in 2017-18. He posted six Top 25 finishes, including winning his first college tournament at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational. He placed second at the Colorado State Ram Masters Invitational, third at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, fourth at the Wyoming Southern Dunes Invitational, fifth at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invite and 25th at the Mountain West Conference Championship. Murdock earned Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar honors from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). He was also a Mountain West Academic All-Conference honoree. He concluded the season with a 71.58 stroke average, which tied him for the best scoring average on the Cowboy team for the 2017-18 season with teammate Drew McCullough.

2016-17 (Sophomore): Murdock played 30 rounds in 10 tournaments for Wyoming, averaging 74.63 strokes per round for a solid improvement from his freshman campaign. His best finish came at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational for the second straight year, where he posted his first career top-20 finish, tying 19th with a score of 214 (-2). Murdock’s low round of the season was 70 (-2), which he recorded three times – at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, at the Arizona National Invitational Tournament and at the MW Championship, where he tied for 42nd after recording a total score of 224 (+8).

Murdock received Academic All-Mountain West and MW Scholar Athlete honors.

2015-16 (Freshman): He played 21 rounds for UW during his freshman campaign. He closed out his first year with a 76.14 stroke average. Murdock recorded his best finish at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, tying for 32nd. He shot a threeround total of 220 (+10), at the Simpson before recording a 232 (+16) for a share of 38th at the Cowboys’ Southern Dunes tournament. In the spring, Murdock had a 223 (+7) at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic. He tied for 47th at the BYU Cougar Classic with a 225 (+9). Murdock garnered Academic All-Mountain West and MW Scholar Athlete honors for his work in the classroom.

High School: Murdock joined the Cowboys after a decorated career at Laramie High School under head coach Kurk Aegerter.

He was a four-time All-State selection. Murdock finished second at the Wyoming State Championship as a senior, and won the Eastern Conference individual championship. Murdock earned All-Conference honors four straight seasons. He also excelled in the classroom as a member of the National Honor Society, and was a dedicated volunteer for the First Tee of Wyoming.

Personal: Murdock is the son of John Murdock III and Juliette Murdock. He is majoring in management at the University of Wyoming.

2017-18 (Sophomore): Starzinski competed in 10 of 12 tournaments as a sophomore. He recorded the first two Top 25 finishes of his career, tying for 18th at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate and tying for 21st at the 2018 Mountain West Conference Championship. His 18th-place showing at the 2018 Desert Intercollegiate tied him for the best finish on the Cowboy team, and his 21st-place finish at the MW Championship was third best for the Cowboys. He concluded his sophomore season with a 74.11 stroke average. For the second consecutive year, Starzinski earned Mountain West Academic All-Conference honors.

2016-17 (Redshirt Freshman): He played in five events for the Cowboys, averaging 76.14 strokes per round over 14 rounds. He started the season by tying for 69th place at the USAF Gene Miranda Invitational, shooting 234 (+18). His low tournament total for the year came at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, where he carded a 227 (+11). Starzinski ended his redshirt freshman campaign with his low round of the season, a 72 (Even) in the final round of the Wyoming Cowboy Classic.

In the classroom, he was named Academic All-Mountain West and a Mountain West Scholar Athlete.

High School: Starzinski joined the Wyoming Golf program from Thunderbird High School in Phoenix, Ariz., where he was a four-year letterwinner under coaches Eric Gurule and Matt Schurman. Starzinski was the team captain his senior year and led the Chiefs to their third consecutive state championship. He won the 2013 Callaway Junior World Championship Qualifier #2 by three strokes, with a two round score of 142 (-2). He also excelled in the classroom, graduating with honors and a 4.1 weighted grade-point average.

Personal: He is the son of Al and Alice Starzinski and has a sister, Julia. He is studying civil engineering at UW.

2018-19: Tyler Severin played in five of six fall tournaments during his true freshman season. He posted his one Top 25 finish of the fall season in his very first college tournament at the Air Force Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational. Severin tied for 25th in the Falcon Invite, while shooting his best tournament score of the fall season -- a 218 (+2). He also shot his best individual round of the fall, firing a 70 (-2) in the second round at the Falcon Invite. Severin finished the fall season with a 74.73 stroke average.

He earned First Team All-State twice and Second Team All-State once while also receiving three First Team All-Conference honors. Over the summer of 2017, Severin won the Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado (JGAC) Tour event at Pelican Lakes Golf & Country Club, posting rounds of 70 (-2) and 69 (-3) for a three-stroke victory. A week later, he won the AJGA Kansas Junior at Buffalo Dunes, shooting a 54-hole score of 215 (-1). He was the only golfer in the field to shoot under par at the JGAC Tour event at The Old Course in Loveland, Colo., where he picked up his third event victory of the summer with a 36-hole score of 141 (-3). Severin was named to the Academic All-State First Team in 2016 and also played basketball at Roosevelt. He played for head golf coach John McFarland.

CARL UNDERWOOD Sophomore Richland, Wash. (Richland)

2018-19: Carl Underwood competed in all six of Wyoming’s fall tournaments. He tied for 23rd in the Air Force Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational for his highest tournament finish of the fall. Underwood shot the best round of his career, a 68 (-4) in the second round of the Air Force Falcon Invitational.

He shot six rounds of par or lower during the fall season, and ended the fall season with a 74.11 stroke average.

High School: Underwood attended Richland High School in Richland, Wash., where he was a four-year letterwinner. He won the 2016 Washington 4A Individual State Championship, guiding his team to a third-place finish. A two-time district champion, Underwood was named the 2016 All-Area MVP during his junior season. Additionally, he was a member of the title-winning Team Washington during the 2016 Junior America’s Cup. In 2017, Underwood tied for fifth place at the State Championship.

Personal: Carl was born on Sept. 2, 1998 in Sheridan, Wyo., and is the son of Mary and Patrick, a former college football player.
