Targeted Tips from Experts in Education

57th Annual Edition

Welcome to the 2023 Job Search Handbook!

"A great teacher in every classroom is one of the most important resources we can give our children to recover from this pandemic and thrive," said Secretary Cardona. We agree! It’s an honor and privilege to serve in an organization dedicated to leading and supporting educators. AAEE is about positively impacting education through professional connections. It has been a joy to participate in this process of learning and networking with the members over the past few years, attending the conference and participating in the webinars.

This publication has a tremendous amount of information to assist aspiring educators. The articles and advice range on a variety of topics from writing your resume to following up after the interview to navigating your first year of teaching. With 60+ articles about the education job search, the insights and perspectives shared will boost the job search skills of our future educators.

We were thankful to get back in person for our conference this year and what a line up of speakers and topics we had. We heard about recruitment and retention, apprenticeships, and self-care to name a few. AAEE was able to continue its Janice S. Jones scholarship initiatives both for the Critical Need Teacher and Teacher of Color. AAEE was also able to provide four mini-grants to districts for Grow Your Own programs.

Thank you to the committee members and contributing writers for the rich resources provided within the Job Search Handbook. I can’t wait for you to dig into your copy of the handbook so you can see all of the educational resources that are available for you to use in your job search!

Best Regards,

Kimberly Glass AAEE President Springdale School District Springdale, AR

A Message from the Executive Director

Thank you for allowing the American Association for Employment in Education (AAEE) to support you with your job search (or help you learn more about a career in education)! The 2023 Job Search Handbook for Educators represents the 57th edition of our publication and it has long been considered the premier resource for PK12 teachers who are completing their preparation and seeking employment. At AAEE, our non-profit mission is to positively impact education through professional connections. Given its purpose and the many hands and relationships required to produce it, this publication is a prime example of that mission.

I want to sincerely thank AAEE Director of Publications Amy Hatmaker, the entire JSH Editorial Committee, and our many authors from throughout the education community for the preparation of this important resource. I also want to thank the universities, colleges, school systems, and affiliated organizations who support the production and distribution of this publication through their AAEE membership, purchases, and participation. Finally, I want to thank our tremendous board members for committing their time, talent, and treasure to ensure AAEE's continued success.

We are confident that you will benefit greatly from the information and perspectives shared in the 2023 Job Search Handbook for Educators. If you have any suggestions to improve future editions (and benefit future generations of teachers), however, please do not hesitate to let us know.
