A Note From the Director

Welcome to the roaring twenties, where the streets are alive with the hustle and bustle of New York City, and the spirit of adventure is palpable in the air! As we step into the world of Bugsy Malone, I am thrilled to guide you through this exhilarating tale of gangsters, glamour, and gumption.

I had the extreme pleasure of selecting our talented cast of young people. They have all worked tirelessly and enthusiastically to bring this wonderful show to life. Peter, our vocal director, has done a fantastic job of vocally preparing our young actors on the music they will present to you. My choreographer, Sabrina Delgado, has supplied the musical numbers with astounding choreography that will surely transport you back to the roaring ’20s. I am also very privileged to work with our music director, June Vado, and the musicians she has under her direction. My stage manager, NoraWold, has kept our cast of 29 together and on task throughout our rehearsal process. Eric Herman and his crew have worked hard to create our set and lighting design to transport us to the 1920’s. And for me, I was so excited when the Aurora asked me to direct this children’s show. Theatre has been an integral part of my life for many years and I enjoy sharing my love of theatre with others. Thank you for joining us on this journey back in time.

Sit back, relax, and prepare to be transported to a world where anything is possible.

Set against the backdrop of Prohibition-era America, our production brings to life the escapades of Bugsy Malone and his band of pint-sized hoodlums. But don’t let their youth fool you; these kids may be small in Director

DENISE GUERRA stature, but they’re big on ambition and even bigger on heart. In this unique twist on the classic gangster story, our talented cast of youth performers will dazzle you with their wit, charm, and infectious energy. From speakeasies to showdowns, every scene bursts with toe-tapping musical numbers, slapstick humor, and larger-thanlife characters that will leave you grinning from ear to ear. As we journey through the ups and downs of Bugsy’s adventures, I invite you to relish in the nostalgia of a bygone era while also recognizing the timeless themes of friendship, loyalty, and the pursuit of dreams that resonate with audiences of all ages. So, grab your fedoras and flapper dresses, and get ready for a wild ride through the streets of Fat Sam’s Grand Slam Speakeasy. Together, let us celebrate the joy of youth, the power of friendship, and the triumph of the underdog ni this rollicking musical extravaganza.

Continuing His Legacy

Ed Chapa was a fiercely passionate man with big aspirations and a love for the arts. What started as a simple thought shared with his wife, Mary, grew into a vision that was realized with the inception of the Aurora. The dream to open a quaint community theater on the Southside of Corpus Christi became a driving force in Ed’s life, and his dedication to the cause served as an inspiration to all he met.

The success of the Aurora lives on as a testament to the strength of his vision and of his faith in the many volunteers and community supporters who gave of their time and hearts as much as he gave of his.
