Letter From The Editor
WELCOMING THE NEW YEAR! Offered by: Susan Kline - The Brighton Buzz
We’re entering 2021 with a somewhat
less dewey-eyed approach to the new year’s possibilities. We know what a year with massive shoe dropping feels like…in fact a whole closet full! However we can now turn the page on 2020, and that’s a really good thing. Contrast is always uplifting! Let’s take stock of some things we may want to add to our 2021 “To Do” List: 1. Get Vaccinated for Covid-19. 2. Look Forward To Children Going Back to School. 3. Safely Hug Loved Ones. 4. Shop in Stores Leisurely. 5. Dining-In At Your Favorite Restaurant. 6. Watch Spectators (Or Be One) At A Sporting Event. 7. Make Travel Plans For A Vacation. 8. Safely Use Modes of Transportation. 9. Attend A Play or Concert. 10. Bring Our Businesses Back To More Normal Times While many of these things were taken for granted this time last year, we now have an appreciation for what we’ve missed. We might not be able to accomplish all of our “To Do’s” right away, but as these things become more possible, we can truly cherish the blessings we’ve had in our lives, and, hopefully, re-live them. I, for one, am looking toward the New Year with hope and anticipation of building a much Happier New Year!
Wishing You The Best in 2021!

Why Have Your Child Play A Musical Instrument? Offered by: Rich Germaine, Owner, Joyful Noise Music School
U
nlike competitive team sports, students in school band or orchestra can always participate. No one sits on the bench waiting for a chance to play.
Students who participate in school music programs are 52% more likely to go on to college and graduate. According to a recent study conducted by neurologist Dr. Frank Wilson, when a musician plays, he/she uses approximately 90% of the brain. Wilson could find no other activity that uses the brain to this extent. The study had also shown students who took more than 4 years of music and the other arts scored 34 points better on the verbal portion of the SAT than those who took music for less than a year. A recent Rockefeller Foundation study discovered that music students have the highest rate of admittance to medical schools. Music scholarships are also a great source of funding for a college education. When a child succeeds at the diverse tasks required to play an instrument, self-esteem is enhanced. As a student begins to understand the connection between practice and the quality of performance, self-discipline becomes self-enforcing. It may then be a short jump to making a connection between self discipline and performance in life. Students in band or orchestra develop higher cognitive skills and increased ability to analyze and evaluate information. They also learn about teamwork and conflict/resolution skills required for success in the modern workplace while enjoying the healthy, positive activity of band and orchestra with friends.

How to get fast cash during challenging times Offered by: Thollot Jewelers
The coronavirus pandemic is continuing its assault on the U.S. economy, forcing businesses to close, lay off workers, or reduce their hours. Many find themselves in need of fast cash, beyond what can be generated by strict budgeting. There are several potential avenues to access emergency money in a pinch but where best to turn? Accessing the value locked in precious metals and unwanted or broken jewelry offers a standout option for those that want to avoid loans that come with crushing fees and interest. Gold has seen a price surge in the last year with a rise in the price of an ounce increasing over $400. That means that the items at the bottom of your jewelry box, your inherited jewelry and other precious metals are worth a whole lot more than most people think. Thollot & Co. pays top dollar for gold and estate jewelry, can cut a check to you on the spot, and is currently offering a 20% bonus to the value of your precious metals through the end of January when taken as store credit. Then shop their impressive selection of jewelry or make something original by working with their custom jewelry designers. The bottom line is that it may require being a little creative. Turn your precious metals and unwanted jewelry into an heirloom gift for someone special (maybe yourself?) and free up budget you traditionally allocate for that purpose, or walk away with fast cash without taking on any additional debt and payments.

How to Manage Your 401(k) When You Switch Jobs Offered by: T. Lloyd Worth
In the past, boomers and generation Xers often held on to jobs for 10 or more years. Some professionals stayed with the same company for most of their working lives. The Great Recession changed this for many. Now, people have become more comfortable moving from job to job. Millennials are especially adept at this. They change jobs three times more often than other generations.1 Changing jobs introduces a new dilemma for people, regardless of why or how often they do so: what to do with the 401(k) account they had with their former employer. Should they consider taking the cash distribution, or could there be a better choice? Consider All Options Here are some reasonable options to consider whether it’s to cash out, or retain the tax-deferred benefits attached to your assets: 1. Take the Cash: When people make financial decisions they may choose to do so based on interest rates and cash in hand. But another important factor to consider is taxes. When you take cash distributions from your 401(k) account, you may pay a lot of money in taxes and fees. This includes a 20% federal withholding tax and then another 10% penalty for people who are under the age of 59 and a half years old.2 2. Directly Roll the Money Into an IRA: An individual retirement account is much like a 401(k), but it can remain independent of any employer. You may want to consider this option if you change jobs often or if a new employer does not offer retirement plans.

3. Use the New Employer’s Plan: Some professionals prefer to keep rolling their 401(k) savings forward. You may want to consider this option if you mostly work corporate jobs with good 401(k) plans. Rolling the money over directly from one employer to the next may also help to eliminate any fees from the IRS. Note that even if you are not yet eligible to contribute to your new employer’s retirement plan, you should be able to roll over your money. 4. Keep the Old Plan: If you have at least $5,000 in your old retirement account, your employer must allow you to retain your 401(k) account if you want to.3 You can no longer make contributions to the account, but you can make decisions regarding the investment of your assets. You may want to consider this option if you leave your job to start a business, or want to add some diversity to your retirement holdings. The Importance of Research The right approach depends on a number of factors. Aside from those mentioned above, you should consider the rules at your company as well as longevity. Is the company in financial trouble? What happens to your retirement plan if it goes under? Some employers may also set lower thresholds to allow former employees to leave their retirement accounts behind. Speak directly with the human resources department to get some answers. Another good source of reputable information is financial professionals. What’s New with Medicare? Offered by: Jennifer Bell - Bell Benefits, LLC
H
appy New Year everyone! I hope this new year brings in a BUNCH of wonderful things for each and every one of you. With a New Year comes new changes to Medicare. Of course the basic format remains the same. Medicare is still Medicare with its same structure. The changes come by way of money. Every year Medicare adjusts its premium (what you pay each month to have Medicare) and its out-of-pocket costs. If you are among the average income earner, your Medicare Part B premium will be $148.50/month in 2021 (up $3.90 from 2020). This may automatically change in your Social Security deduction or it will be reflected on your invoice if you pay via direct bill. Medicare has also changed its deductibles and copays/coinsurance amounts with slight increases. Medicare has also made adjustments throughout 2020 in the way we can do things. In the past, we were unable to apply for Medicare Part B online, but now we can. They also added the option to pay your monthly premium online with a credit card. If you pay via direct bill rather than Social Security deduction, all you need to do is log in to MyMedicare.gov to set that up. They also extended their hours and I’m not sure if this will stick but they have been open 24/7. This is great because you can call 1-800-MEDICARE at anytime that is convenient for you when you need help with your Medicare account. This is just a highlight of some of the changes Medicare has made. I am always happy to help answer your specific questions about Medicare. Just give me a call or shoot me a text: 720-626-6524.

Hard Truths About Driving Under The Influence Offered by: James Colgan, LLC
We
are coming upon the holiday season and this year people will be celebrating the end of a terrible 2020 and hoping for a better 2021. Celebrating means people will drink and, if you decide to drink and drive, it is very important that you understand some hard truths about that decision. If you are pulled over by the police, please cooperate. You are at a disadvantage if you fight the police. Police misconduct needs to be dealt with in a courtroom by an experienced attorney not on the side of a street. However, please understand this. You are not required to give the police evidence that can be used against you in court. You have constitutional rights that you can invoke even in a DUI investigation. Cooperation does not mean you are required give an extensive explanation to the police about what you have been doing. Cooperation does not mean you are required to do voluntary roadside maneuvers (sobriety tests). The police may believe that you were driving under the influence and arrest you. If they have a reasonable belief, the law requires you to submit to a chemical test. Most people have heard of the .08% blood alcohol level. If your blood alcohol level is .08% or higher you will be charged with driving under the influence. However, it is still a crime to drive with a blood alcohol level of .05% or higher or, in some circumstances, .02% or higher. Please call me at 303-990-0621 or e-mail me at James@jpcolganlaw.com so that I can protect your rights if you are arrested for a DUI.
Contact: Abby Martinez 303-655-2186 agmartinez@brightonco.gov The deadline to submit your nomination is January 31, 2021.

Happy New Year — Looking Forward at the 2021 Real Estate Forecast Offered by: Jan Hepp-Struck, Hepp Realty
L
ng 40+ Years of Setting Extraordina ry Celebrati rough World Class Customer Se Th s d r a d r n v ice Sta
et me just start by wishing you all a very happy, healthy, and prosperous 2021, and a year that looks a whole lot different than the crazy and unprecedented year we just finished! It remains to be seen what our new ‘normal’ will look like, but in the meantime, we can certainly look forward on the real estate landscape. According to economists and experts at Realtor.com in their 2021 Housing Forecast, there is every reason to believe that 2021 is going to continue an upward trend for sellers. Here are the highlights: 1. Seasonality is expected to return to recognizable ‘norms’ with a strong spring and summer homebuying season and a slowdown in the fall and winter. 2. Home prices are predicted to rise 5% or more. 3. Home sales are predicted to increase around 7% with a strong demand and more homes hitting the market. 4. Mortgage rates are expected to climb to over 3% by the end of the year. If you aren’t planning to sell, you may want to consider refinancing now to take advantage of currently low rates. 5. It’s also no surprise that as millennials age, they are dominating the “move-up” buyer’s category as they have children or add aging parents to their households and need more space.

Pushing Brighton Forward
B
Offered by: Willy Strohmeier - Colorado Karate Club
ack in the 1980’s in Lima-Peru, my brothers and I used to ride two buses for an hour each way to school. These were old buses, packed to several times the maximum capacity of people, with bodies hanging out of the door, and exuding the most uncomfortable of aromas - especially for a short kid squeezed in between many adults. But, once in a while, my dad would be able to give us a ride to school in our 1968 Mustard-Yellow Datsun 510. We were elated to ride in the car, the ride was much shorter, comfortable, and smell free. However, most of the time this required that my two older brothers, my dad and I would have to push the old, not so faithful Datsun down the street to get it going. We would push hard and fast enough to catch some decent foot speed for my dad to jump in and pop the clutch. We held By reinvesting locally, our breath in expectation, hoping that with a sputter or we are helping to two, the engine would turn and roar to carry us comfortably to push our entire school... when it did not, we community forward. would repeat the process until it did start, or we’d just push the car back to the house and catch the dreaded bus. I reflected upon these memories of my childhood this morning as I thought about how our community resembles our old Datsun, needing a push to keep it going. I thought about the owner of a restaurant who mentioned how he had invested in plexi-glass and other measures to keep people safe dining indoors, only to be forced to close down the dining area afterwards. When asked how business was going, he replied sadly: “Not very good…” Which begged the question, what can we do? What can I do? My upbringing in Lima made me a frugal adult. I am not one to eat out often, and I’ve always tried to find the lowest price on whatever I buy. But today, our community needs our generosity, our small businesses especially, need our support. For those of us who are fortunate enough to still have a job, or are able to continue

running our businesses (even if not at full capacity), it is time to set frugality aside and become more conscious and purposeful with where we spend each dollar. Here are some practical things we can do to help push our local businesses forward: 1. That item you were planning to buy from Amazon to save five bucks, get it instead from the local store. 2. Order your dinner from the restaurant down the street and get it delivered. 3. Give a generous tip to the driver, as if he or she were your own kid. 4. Keep up your gym membership if you can still afford it. 5. Continue tithing to your church even if you only attend online. 6. Buy gift cards if available and give them to friends and family. 7. Look through the Brighton Buzz and see what businesses in our area are able to fulfill a need in your household or business. 8. I encourage business owners to support each other. I invite every willing business owner of a restaurant, shop, hair salon, landscaper, plumber, handyman, dental, optometrist, dog groomer, cleaning service, etc. to come to our Karate school and drop us some of your flyers or coupons to share with our students. Everyone wins. Even with small purchases, when we buy local, we help to support not only the business owner, but also the employees that work there; and the sales taxes we pay help to run essential city services. By reinvesting locally , we are helping to push our entire community forward through these tough times. And with the Good Lord’s favor, maybe soon we can pop the clutch, get the motor running, and simply enjoy the ride again. Willy Strohmeier - Colorado Karate Club

How long before retirement do I need to prepare for Medicare coverage? Offered by: Integrity Insurance of Brighton
This is not the main priority of many people approaching 65 and perhaps retirement. It is a time in life to celebrate the move out of the work force for some, decrease health costs possibly, and a time to adapt to a change of how time will be spent. As anyone who has turned 65 will tell you it is also a frustrating time because of Medicare eligibility! Your phone will ring repeatedly with offers to assist you with Medicare. Your mailbox will fill for months with letters, postcards and flyers. So why all the fuss? Well, Medicare can be a complex undertaking depending on each individual’s situation. There are decisions that could affect your healthcare for as long as you are on Medicare. Another question is “What will it cost?” For some that can be a straightforward answer, for others, planning for at least 2-3 years prior is essential as higher income can cause your monthly Medicare costs to increase significantly. Knowing the ins and outs can allow you to move toward Medicare without surprises and perhaps mitigate increased costs. Maybe working past age 65 and delaying Medicare is your plan. Then you have other considerations with Part D and HSA accounts. A lifetime Part D penalty can be triggered if you stay on employer Rx coverage and it is not creditable for Medicare. Not being informed may leave you with penalties and tax consequences when you begin Medicare. I can help! With an introductory meeting by phone, virtually or safely distanced you can put your mind at ease as you approach Medicare eligibility. Not to mention the annoyances of phone and mail solicitations can be minimized. Let’s visit well in advance of your 65th birthday so you can comfortably understand the options you will have and make the transition with confidence. I’m local and my services are always at no cost to my clients. Call me at 303-887-8584. Visit us online at: www.TheBrightonBuzz.com

Moving Into 2021 Offered by: Melissa Rippy - Rippy Insurance Agency / Allstate
We have all heard the phrase, “Hindsight is 20/20” but this past year, it took on a whole new meaning as we have navigated through the unknown days of a pandemic. It has at times been a very trying and uncertain time in our world, and now it’s time for us to look back and reflect. Owning a business can be challenging and the COVID-19 did not make things simple. All small business owners in town still want to be here. We are all learning new ways to operate, communicate and effectively provide the best service we can with the restrictions surrounding our every day. As we look back, there is much to be grateful for in 2020. I saw businesses and individuals come together to support small business here in town to not just survive, but thrive. The Rippy Agency presented the “12 Days of Brighton” in which we recognized 12 local businesses with a special promotion on each day. Thanks to The Pink Door, South Philly Cheese Steaks, Pinocchio’s Italian Eatery, Blackjack Pizza of Brighton, Big Choice Brewery and Pizzeria, Cold Stone Creamery of Brighton, 3 Margaritas of Brighton, The Porch & CO., Copper Rail Bar & Grill, Cheese Love Grill, Two Sisters’ Oil and Rumors Salon for allowing us to partner with you and thanks to those who supported the event. The year 2021 is a fresh start for all of us. It is a time to make the most of not just the year, but every single moment in every single day. Happy New Year to you all – let’s make this year the best one yet!
Keep a Resolution For Your Loved Ones Offered by: Dolan & Associates, P.C.
At the end of each year, we reaffirm the things we know we need to do by making a resolution to deal with in the new year. Unfortunately, we then get busy doing other things. But don’t worry, there are some things, like estate planning, that we can put off forever and not have to suffer the consequences! Procrastinating on your estate plan will result in your family spending large amounts of your hard-earned money and a good bit of their mental sanity, to take care of you if you become disabled. However, it won’t bother you; you’re incapacitated! If your affairs are complete chaos after your death, and as a result your children fight over how to handle them and never speak to each other again, it won’t bother you; you’re dead! If large amounts of your estate are spent on unnecessary fees and costs after your death, it won’t bother you; you’re dead! If you wanted your children to share equally in your estate, but instead a large portion went to only one child, it won’t bother you; you’re dead! But…if they concern you now, why are you resolving to worry about them for another 365 days? Do something about it! We are confident that taking the time to do your estate planning won’t make you die any sooner, and we are confident it won’t make you live any longer. But we do know for certain that a properly designed, implemented, and maintained estate plan will make life a lot easier on your family, both emotionally and financially. So instead of making an empty resolution, take the action necessary to get your estate plan in order. Smart Buyer’s Guide to Choosing the Perfect Property Offered by: Dan & Beth Cochran - The Haven Team, Keller Williams
D
aydreaming about owning your own home is one of the most intoxicating practices known to modern man, especially now that HGTV and all the house flipping shows make it look like a cake walk. But when the time comes to actually put your money where your daydream is, it can be challenging for first-time buyers especially to understand how a home that doesn’t currently come anywhere close to “dream” status could be whipped into shape — and how a home that they think is perfect now will end up feeling like a mistake in a couple of years. To avoid that unfortunate scenario, first-time buyers will need to think carefully and weigh all of their options. After considering all of these factors, you’ll be well-prepared to choose a house that feels like home today and for years to come. Price First and foremost, you need a home that you can afford. There’s no sense in deciding that you must have four bedrooms when the most you could afford in your market is two. It is very important to start with your budget and then visit a lender. Beds, baths, and size You know what size your household is and whether it’s likely to grow in the future. You also know how much space you’re likely to need based on your own current household’s configuration Special features Once you understand your basic requirements for a home, you can start thinking about additional features that you’d like it to have. Location matters — a lot Smart first-time buyers will want to think beyond a school district when choosing a home. How close is your home to major highways in the area (and is that a good thing or a bad thing)? Is that really a “bargain”? If you’re faced with a choice between a home that seems like a bargain but requires some fixing-up and a home that’s more expensive but requires little or no work, which should you choose? I would love to be your real estate partner to help you find your next home. If you are interested in knowing what your current home is worth, feel free to contact me to complete a free home market analysis for you. For more information about finding your dream home please reach out to me any time. I would be honored to be your real estate professional. Your Home is your Haven! hances are if you are one of the millions of Americans suffering from chronic pain, arthritis, migraine headaches, loss of motor control, depression/ anxiety, or insomnia, CBD may be a safe alternative or addition to other medications that you are currently taking. Over the past several years there has been a mounting body of clinical evidence to suggest that CBD can significantly improve the symptoms related to each of these conditions. CBD is short for cannabidol, an all natural supplement derived from the cannabis plant. Cannabidol along with the other cannabinoids, terpenes, and phytonutrients found in hemp work in concert with our internal Endocannabinoid Receptor System to maintain healthy cellular functions. Unlike its cousin Medical Marijuana, CBD is an all natural non-psychoactive cannabinoid that can improve your overall health but cannot get you “high.” One of the biggest concerns in the medical community has been the lack or regulation or quality control that exists in the market. Numerous patients have reported inconsistent responses to the products that they buy or in more extreme cases serious illness have come from taking impure products. The other issue our patients face has been the lack of medical knowledge by those selling the products. While CBD is generally considered safe there are certain medications that can interact with it and you should always ask if it is safe to take with your normal regiment. At Platte Valley Pharmacy we carry Ananda Professional, an FDA-inspected manufacturer that produces a safe and consistent full spectrum hemp product that you can count on every time. Our specially trained pharmacists can answer the questions that you may have regarding its use and safety in helping you.

Coronavirus Vaccines Offered by: Richard W. Martin, M.D.- Brighton Pediatrics, PC
The new Covid-19 vaccines provide a ray of hope that an end to the Covid-19 pandemic, though not around the corner, is at least within the foreseeable future. As of the time of this writing, hospitals are eagerly awaiting their first shipments of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna-NIH vaccines. Both are mRNA (messenger RNA) vaccines, which can be produced much more rapidly than older vaccines. Both need to be stored at unusually low temperatures, especially the Pfizer vaccine, which needs to be stored at minus 94 degrees Fahrenheit. Both are close to 95% effective in preventing the disease and appear to help prevent severe disease in those who become infected despite being vaccinated. The Pfizer vaccine begins to provide some protection within 10 days of the first dose, but both vaccines require a second dose, three or four weeks later, for more complete and lasting protection. Based on the roughly 30,000 people involved in the clinical trials of each vaccine, both have an excellent safety profile. The common side effects of fever, headache, and fatigue resolve within about 24 hours. The Pfizer vaccine will be approved down to 16 years of age and the Moderna vaccine down to 18 years until further studies have been completed for children The highest priority, with the presently limited vaccine supply, is being given to hospital staff in emergency rooms and ICU’s, to hospital housekeepers, to nursing home residents and staff, and to other healthcare providers exposed to Covid-19 patients. As more doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines become available, and other types of Covid-19 vaccines are eventually approved, the hope is to vaccinate enough people (close to 90%) to provide “herd immunity and finally end the spread of the coronavirus. In the meantime, social distancing and wearing masks in public settings remain crucial to limiting death and disability from Covid-19. Please visit our website at www.brightonpeds.com

New Year’s Resolutions Tips for Success and Goal Setting Beyond January Offered by: Jessica Ahmed - Brighton Acupuncture
H
appy New Year! On January 1st of every year there is a surge of hope and optimism that, according to recent research, drives 45% of us to make resolutions. These include weight loss (#1 most popular), getting organized (#2) and spending less/saving more money (#3). Often by mid-February, frustrated that we have not achieved our goals and disappointed by our setbacks, we abandon our resolutions altogether. Since only 8% of resolution-makers are successful in achieving their goals, it sounds like a lot of us could use some help. Here are a few tips to get you started: Set realistic goals. While you may *want* to lose ten pounds each month for the next six months, that sort of weight loss would require extreme changes in diet and lifestyle. In addition, when we alter our habits too drastically in a short period of time, we run the risk of falling back into old, comfortable patterns. Aiming for more realistic and sustainable goals will help create long-term success. Write down your goals. People who record every single thing they eat are more likely to make healthy food choices than those who do not. Similarly, writing down goals in other areas makes them more real. Step it up a level and work backward from your end goal, setting deadlines for small, manageable tasks that will help you hit your target. Create a support system. Team up with a friend or family member who has a similar goal, and work together toward achieving it. You can add structure by scheduling a weekly meeting or phone call with someone you trust to be honest with you about your progress. If you’re short on time, text messages are great for quick updates. Get professional help. Whether you want to be more financially secure, a better cook, or rid your body of aches and pains (feel free to call me for help with that one!), consider hiring someone who gets paid to be an expert in his or her field. Investing a little money as well as time makes your commitment more serious, and having a pro as your guide increases the likelihood of success by giving you an extra level of accountability.

Time for New Year’s Financial Resolutions Offered by: Tim Roberts - Edward Jones
M
any of us probably felt that 2020 lasted a very long time. But now that 2021 is upon us, we can make a fresh start – and one way to do that is to make some New Year’s resolutions. Of course, you can make these resolutions for all parts of your life – physical, emotional, intellectual – but have you ever considered some financial resolutions? Here are a few such resolutions to consider:

Don’t overreact to events. When the coronavirus pandemic hit in mid-February, the financial markets took a big hit. Many people, convinced that we were in for a prolonged slump, decided to take a “time out” and headed to the investment sidelines. But it didn’t take long for the markets to rally, rewarding those patient investors who stayed the course. Nothing is a certainty in the investment world, but the events of 2020 followed a familiar historical pattern: major crisis followed by market drop followed by strong recovery. The lesson for investors? Don’t overreact to today’s news – because tomorrow may look quite different. Be prepared. At the beginning of 2020, nobody was anticipating a worldwide pandemic and its terrible consequences, both to individuals’ health and to their economic well-being. None of us can foretell the future, either, but we can be prepared, and one way to do so is by building an emergency fund. Ideally, such a fund should be kept in liquid, low-risk vehicles and contain at least six months’ worth of living expenses. Focus on moves you can control. In response to pandemic-related economic pressures, some employers cut their matching contributions to 401(k) plans in 2020. Will some future event cause another such reduction? No one knows – and even if it happens, there’s probably nothing you can do about it. Instead of worrying about things you can’t control, focus on those you can. When it comes to your 401(k) or similar employer-sponsored retirement plan, put in as much as you can afford this year, and if your salary goes up, increase your contribution. Recognize your ability to build savings. During the pandemic, the personal savings rate shot up, hitting a record of 33% in April, according to the U.S. Bureau of Economy Analysis. It fell over the next several months, but still remained about twice as high as the rate of the past few years. Of course, much of this surge in Americans’ proclivity to save money was due to our lack of options for spending it, as the coronavirus caused either complete or partial shutdowns in physical retail establishments, as well as dining and entertainment venues. But if you did manage to boost your own personal savings when your spending was constrained, is it possible to remain a good saver when restrictions are lifted? Probably. And the greater your savings, the greater your financial freedoms – including the freedom to invest and freedom from excessive debt. When we reach a post-pandemic world, see if you can continue saving more than you did in previous years – and use your savings wisely. These aren’t the only financial resolutions you can make – but following them may help you develop habits that could benefit you in 2021 and beyond. This article was written by Edward Jones for use by your local Edward Jones Financial Advisor. Edward Jones, Member SIPC

City of Brighton to host
The Wall That Heals
in September 2021
Offered by: City of Brighton Communications
S
preading the healing legacy and the impact of the Vietnam War, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Replica Wall, The Wall That Heals, and Mobile Education Center will be coming to Brighton Sept. 2 - 5, 2021. The Wall will be located at Carmichael Park, just behind City Hall (500 S. 4th Avenue), and will be open 24 hours a day and free to the public. The Wall That Heals honors the more than three million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed forces in the Vietnam War and bears the names of the 58,279 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam. “I first learned of the program three years ago through a friend I served with at the V.A. Hospital,” Council Member Tim Watts said. “From that point, I knew I wanted Brighton to be able to see this replica of an important piece of history and sacrifice, right here in our community. I then reached out to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund while I was in Washington D.C. this past March to see how we could apply to be a part of the schedule. I am beyond thrilled that Brighton was chosen to be one of the stops for The Wall That Heals.” “The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund is pleased to bring The Wall That Heals mobile exhibit to Brighton, Colorado to allow local veterans and their family members a chance to experience The Wall. We will work carefully with the host to provide a safe opportunity for the community to experience the healing and educational aspects of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial,” said Jim Knotts, president and CEO of VVMF. “Hosting The Wall That Heals provides an opportunity to honor and remember all those who served and sacrificed in the Vietnam War and educate visitors on the continuing impact of the Vietnam War on America.” In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, volunteers will be required to wear masks. Visitors will be encouraged to wear masks and practice social distancing to safeguard the staff, volunteers and other visitors. “Nothing is more important to VVMF than the health and well-being of our Vietnam veterans and their families. We will work closely with the host to make certain that all health and safety protocols are met in order to provide the best visitor experience while keeping the safety of our staff, volunteers and visitors at top of mind,” said Knotts. The Wall That Heals is transported from community to community in a 53-foot trailer. When parked, the trailer opens with exhibits built into its sides, allowing it to serve as a mobile Education Center telling the story of the Vietnam War, The Wall and the divisive era in American history. them as they walk towards the apex, a key feature of the design of The Wall in D.C. Visitors are able to do name rubbings of individual service member’s names on The Wall. The mobile Education Center exhibit includes: digital photo displays of “Hometown Heroes” - service members whose names are on The Wall that list their home of record within the area of a visit; digital photo displays of Vietnam veterans from the local area honored through VVMF’s In Memory program which honors veterans who returned home from Vietnam and later died as a result of their service; video displays that teach about the history and impact of The Wall; educational exhibits told through items representative of those left at The Wall in D.C.; a replica of the In Memory plaque; a map of Vietnam and a chronological overview of the Vietnam War. The exhibits tell the story of the Vietnam War, The Wall and the era surrounding the conflict, and are designed to put American experiences in Vietnam in a historical and cultural context. The 2021 national The Wall That Heals tour is generously sponsored by USAA. Through a partnership with the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA), the trucking industry, and Blue Beacon, the exhibit is able to travel across the country. Since its debut in 1996, the exhibit has been on display in nearly 700 U.S. communities in addition to an April 1999 tour of the Four Provinces of Ireland and a visit to Canada in 2005. The Wall That Heals is a program of VVMF, the nonprofit organization that built the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. in 1982. The Wall That Heals is the only traveling exhibit affiliated with The Wall in Washington, D.C. and includes the largest Wall replica that travels the country. Two VVMF staff members lead volunteers on site, educate visitors and students, and ensure the reflective atmosphere of The Wall. More information can be found at: www.thewallthatheals.org. About VVMF The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) is the nonprofit organization that built the Vietnam Veterans Memorial (The Wall) in Washington, D.C. in 1982. VVMF continues to lead the way in paying tribute to our nation’s Vietnam veterans and their families. VVMF’s mission is to honor and preserve the legacy of service in America and educate all generations about the impact of the Vietnam War and era through programs, ceremonies and education materials. lue Ribbon Hearing & Tinnitus Center is the only full-time, locally owned, independent hearing care office in the Brighton area. We specialize in providing the best technology and service available. Being an independent company allows us to find the best technology available on the market, instead of being beholden to a single manufacturer or parent company. Most hearing companies send out thousands of mailers to get people in for special events, and rely on as much sales volume as possible to cover advertising and overhead costs. Others focus on selling as many hearing aids as possible at the lowest cost, without concern for serving the patient after the sale. We rely on our reputation for excellent service, minimal advertising costs and low overhead to provide the best possible price on premium hearing aid technology. We view hearing aids as an extension of a person and their overall health. Better hearing does not simply mean getting a device that amplifies sound and sticking it in your ear. A thorough exam, thoughtful hearing aid selection, customized fittings and programming, and personalized counseling and follow up are all critical to ensuring an individual is attaining the best hearing possible given their specific hearing loss. Along with hearing aids, we provide custom hearing protection and other ear health products for everyone. Preventing hearing loss is more effective than treating hearing loss. And treating hearing loss sooner rather than later is a preventative measure against cognitive decline and dementia. As we move forward into 2021, we want to say thanks to everyone in the community who supported us, and all the other local small businesses in 2020. We look forward to being able to continue to prove that we are “Dedicated to Your Best Hearing.” Please call today to schedule your comprehensive hearing test or second opinion consultation.

any people hold off listing their homes until after the holiday season, and who can blame them? Between the year coming to a fast close, holiday shopping, managing remote learning, work, and the day-to-day activities of life, listing your home can seem overwhelming. But now, the dust has started to settle, and the holiday season is in the rearview mirror. These tips can help you get ready, listed, and sold before your neighbor even takes down his Christmas lights! Pack it Up Start by putting away the holiday décor and decluttering your home. You’ll want to be sure you show your home in the best light, so prepare for the photographer by ensuring your home is back to its non-holiday appearance.
ELEVATING YOUR SUCCESS!
Details Matter Get a deep cleaning done so your home looks and smells fresh for any walk-throughs. It’s also a good idea to walk the house and note any repairs so you can begin tackling them when you have free time. Serious Buyers Only Springtime may be the hottest season in the market, but there are serious buyers looking in the winter months. Be sure your REALTOR® has professional, high quality photos taken of your home so you can put your best foot forward online and entice people to see your home in person.
627 East Bridge Street • Brighton, CO 80601
Keep it Clear Be sure your driveway, sidewalk, and front/back porch are clear of snow and ice for drive-bys and in-home showings. Ensuring your buyers feel safe walking in and out of your home may make the difference when they’re ready to make an offer. NYSE: FNF

Work with a Professional It makes a big difference to work with a REALTOR® who knows how to present and market your home to buyers who are ready to make an offer. They can help you make reasonable, informed decisions, rather than quick and emotional decisions. Plus, they have the negotiating skills to help you get the best possible price from your buyer. If one of your goals in 2021 is to sell or buy a home, there’s never been a better time to talk with a REALTOR®. Call us at 303-905-8850. We’ll make sure you talk with someone who is knowledgeable about real estate and your local market.
