It’s the holiday season – a time of joy and giving. And, while many of us embrace the festive spirit with family gatherings and cheerful traditions, it’s also a season that highlights the needs within our communities. Supporting others during this time can bring meaningful connections and transform the holidays into a season of collective goodwill.
Support Local Food Banks: Many organizations also welcome volunteers to help sort and distribute donations. Adopt-a-Family Programs: ese initiatives pair donors with families in need, allowing them to provide gifts, clothing, and other essentials, making the holidays brighter for those who might otherwise go without.
Volunteer Your Time: Homeless shelters, nursing homes, and community centers often need extra help during the holidays. Sharing your time can bring comfort and joy to others.
Donate Warm Clothing: Winter can be especially harsh for those without adequate clothing. Donating coats, scarves, and gloves to local shelters can make a world of difference.
Whether it’s a small gesture or a larger commitment, your efforts can inspire others to spread kindness and generosity.
Don’t forget to check out the Downtown Business Directory on pages 28-30 and support our local businesses and communities by shopping locally this holiday season.

thank Mike enough for what he has done for my wife and I. Two occasions where we have used Mike for buying our first house and for the recent sale of that house. Both occasions Mike went absolutely above and beyond expectation. He even came over to help us with a plumbing issue and worked at our house for over two hours, no questions asked. If I could give him more than 5 stars I would. Thank you Mike for being an absolute rock star!

The storybook marriage was over, Mary had lost her job, and with the extra time at home she discovered her husband’s infidelity. Mary’s father had died seven years ago and left her a substantial inheritance. Not believing that her husband could do such a thing, Mary had simply combined the inheritance with the other marital assets. Unfortunately, in the divorce there was no way to distinguish the inheritance from the marital property. Being unable to determine the difference, the judge divided all of the assets between Mary and her unfaithful husband. To add insult to injury, half of Mary’s her inheritance was awarded to her ex-husband.
But the outcome didn’t have to be this way. If Mary’s father had done a thorough estate plan, he would have left the inheritance to Mary in trust. Mary would control the trust, but the trust would help her keep the inherited assets separate from the marital assets. If Mary used the assets inside the trust for her benefit, but did not draw them out of the trust and spend them, she could have easily identified the inherited assets in the divorce. As a result, the inherited assets would not have been divided in the divorce.
Estate planning can and should be more than avoiding probate and saving taxes. A properly designed estate plan can provide many additional advantages that protect your family. Most of these protections are ignored in cookie-cutter form-driven estate plans. Individuals should look closely at all of the benefits a properly designed estate plan can provide to them while they are alive, and provide to their families after their death. After all, when is it okay that your child’s ex-spouse receives the inheritance you left to your child?
If you would like to learn more about an estate planning process that is producing great results for families, visit www.EstatePlans atWork.com to sign up for a complimentary educational workshop.

Whata year this has been! As we once again navigate the frenzy of the holiday season it’s important to pause for a few moments, to remind ourselves to take a deep breath, and most importantly, to appreciate the blessings we have, especially in the tumultuous world of today. It can be challenging to stay grounded and positive with the constant onslaught of news headlines and I find those momentary pauses, no matter how small, help to provide much needed balance.
As I undoubtedly say every year around this time, I’m very humbled and honored by the trust and confidence of all those who have entrusted Hepp Realty over the years to help bring their home ownership dreams and goals to reality. “ ank you” is a small drop in the bucket of my gratitude for your continued support! Joni and I feel absolutely blessed to be able to help our friends and clients navigate through this crazy real estate market that seems determined to emulate one of those “house of illusions” carnival rides where everything is not as it appears.
For me personally this year, I have been blessed to visit more of the most beautiful state and national park areas and to capture so many wonderful photos to share. e time spent with family and friends exploring nature’s wonders is something I cherish. I will close this month by wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a bright holiday season, hopefully fi lled with an abundance of your own blessings!

Say goodbye to razors, waxing, and the endless cycle of unwanted hair with Triton Duo laser hair removal – a revolutionary advancement in aesthetic technology. This innovative system by In Mode combines two powerful wavelengths (Alexandrite 755 nm and Diode 810 nm) in a single device, making it uniquely effective for a wide range of skin tones (dark and light) and hair types. Unlike traditional single-wavelength systems, this dual technology can target both fine and coarse hair, delivering superior results in fewer sessions while targeting hair throughout the growth cycle.
For those suffering from ingrown hairs or folliculitis due to regular shaving, this innovative laser technology targets hair follicles directly, reducing both unwanted hair growth and skin irritation. This makes the Triton Duo an ideal solution for individuals seeking both aesthetic improvement and relief from recurring skin issues caused by shaving or waxing.
Safer & More Effective than single-wavelength options:
The Triton Duo’s versatility sets it apart in the field of laser hair removal treating a broader range of patients and lower risks. The Alexandrite wavelength excels at treating lighter skin tones, while the Diode wavelength is optimized for medium to darker skin types. This combination allows for safer, more customized treatments, particularly for individuals with darker skin tones who face higher risks of burns or pigmentation changes with traditional laser systems.
Quicker Treatment Times:
Treatment sessions are efficiently designed to fit into your busy schedule. Small areas can be treated in just minutes, while larger areas are completed more quickly than with traditional systems.
Long-Lasting Results:
Due to the Triton Duo’s ability to target hair in multiple growth stages, it often produces faster and more permanent results compared to singlewavelength systems. Many clients report significant hair reduction after just a few sessions.
More Comfortable Treatment:
Our team is ready to help you protect and enhance the enjoyment of your most valuable asset. We are committed to our customers with a high level of honesty, integrity and professionalism.
• Claim SpecialistsWe will help you obtain the insurance coverage you deserve!
• We Provide a 5 Year Labor Warranty on your roof and a 1 Year Labor Warranty on your deck in addition to Manufacturer’s Material Warranty.
• Enhance your outdoor space with a high quality deck built by our team of professionals.
The integrated cooling technology ensures comfort during treatment, making it an excellent choice for those who found previous laser treatments intolerable.
How to Prepare for Successful Treatment:
Safety and preparation are key components of successful treatment. Patients should avoid waxing or plucking for 4-5 weeks before treatment and should not have sun exposure for three weeks prior to their session. After treatment, some patients may experience temporary redness or swelling, which typically resolves within a few hours. Following post-treatment guidelines and proper sun protection ensures optimal results and minimal side effects.
The Triton Duo laser hair removal system represents a significant advancement in permanent hair reduction technology. Its combination of efficiency, comfort, and effectiveness makes it an excellent choice for anyone looking to free themselves from the constant cycle of temporary hair removal methods. Whether you’re seeking to save time, prevent skin irritation, or achieve smooth, hair-free skin, this innovative system offers a sophisticated solution with long-lasting results.
The process begins with a comprehensive consultation to develop a personalized treatment plan for your unique skin tone and hair type. Sessions are typically scheduled 4-6 weeks apart to target hair in different growth cycles, ensuring the most effective results. Individual results will vary.
Get ready for your next vacation or 2025 summer pool season! Let’s get started now and you’ll be ready to enjoy your smooth, hair-free skin while saving time and preventing skin irritation. Call Buffalini Primary Care at (720) 263-1384 or schedule online at BuffaliniPrimaryCare.com for your initial laser hair removal consultation.
It now seems all so surreal, standing there next to the tiny bed, where your child lies with tubes connected seemingly everywhere, machines beeping in the background, and nurses and doctors hustling back and forth. e feeling of impotence is simply overwhelming.
But as the days went by, things started to look up, moving out of the ICU we seemed to settle into a daily routine of “trips” riding on the red wagon, visits to the activity room for coloring or to play video games.
e visit from Santa was a pleasant surprise as well.
Hospital stays, especially lengthy ones, can be very challenging for the whole family, but especially for a child who must stay there as a patient. Many of these children are forced to mature before their time, even though they understand so little yet. rough it all, a bright spot in such a trying time for us was the caring staff at Children’s Hospital Colorado. I can’t say that they simply did “their job”, because I truly believe that they were answering a higher calling. A call not only to heal, but to care for and bring joy to children of all ages, social conditions, and origin.
Unless you have had the need to seek the care of Children’s Hospital Colorado, it is hard to explain what a wonderful organization this is. While medical care is of the highest quality, what makes them different is how much attention they place on the mental wellbeing of the children there. From the Doctors and nurses, to the volunteers and attached organizations such as the “Make A Wish” foundation, they are all a blessing to so many families who find in them solace during an extremely trying time.
Hoping to join in a small way to their wonderful mission, this year Colorado Karate Club is collecting toy donations for the young patients at Children’s Hospital Colorado, and I am personally asking our Brighton community to help us out. I know the families there really appreciate the generosity of those who find it in their hearts to give, even a little of themselves, to a child that they will probably never meet.
If you wish to donate, Children’s Hospital Colorado has asked us that due to infection control guidelines toys must be:
• Brand new and manufactured.
• Items need to be in their original packaging.
• No toy guns or toys that depict violence (Nerf guns, figurines with guns/swords, military toys, etc.)
• No food products, potted plants, latex balloons.
• Infants/toddlers and adolescents are the age groups in greatest need.
We will be receiving donations Monday rough ursday from 4 pm to 7 pm at our Brighton School, 700 S. Main Street, through Wednesday, December 11th, 2024 and they will be delivered to the Hospital the following day.
While I hope that none of your children may ever be in need of a lengthy stay at Children’s Hospital Colorado, I am thankful for their existence and for the wonderful way in which they fulfi ll their mission… and you would be too. Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas SeasonSensei Willy Strohmeier and Colorado Karate Club Staff.
Make your holiday season all the brighter by exploring Historic Downtown Brighton!

Happy Holidays everyone!! With the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period ending on December 7, I thought I would give you a recap of all the different enrollment periods that you have as a Medicare beneficiary.
First and foremost is your Initial Election Period (IEP). is is when you turn 65. It occurs the 3 months prior to your 65th birthday month, the month you turn 65 and the 3 months following your 65th birthday month (7 months total). You can enroll in Medicare Parts A and B during this time and avoid a penalty.
You could also qualify for a Special Election Period (SEP). An SEP is given to you when you are covered through an employee group health plan and retire anytime after turning 65. You have 8 months to get on Medicare Part B but only 2 months to get a Part D drug plan to avoid penalties.
en there is the Annual Enrollment Period that occurs for everyone on Medicare October 15 - December 7 each year. During this time you can make changes to a Medicare Advantage Plan or Prescription Drug Plan.
And finally is the Open Enrollment Period (OEP) which is January 1 - March 31. A couple things happen during this timeframe. (1) For people 65+ who do not have a SEP, you can apply for Medicare Part B if you don’t have it already. Part B would then start the 1st of the following month. (2) Folks with a Medicare Advantage Plan in place on January 1 can make a one time plan change during this time frame.
If you have any questions, please reach out. I’m always happy to help: 720-665-6015.
The Holiday season provides numerous opportunities for families, friends and loved ones to socialize. However, countless individuals with hearing loss needlessly miss out on the joy that should exist when socializing. Untreated hearing loss creates a very real, invisible barrier that often goes unnoticed. Individuals with hearing loss can be surrounded by family and friends, and at the same time feel completely alone as they are unable to follow or participate in discussions or conversations. Some symptoms of this include silence, incorrect answers, smiling and laughing but not talking, sadness, unexplained frustration, and isolation. Treating hearing loss with hearing aids can completely change the way that an individual with hearing loss interacts in social situations.
Untreated hearing loss can lead to changes in the brain that make it difficult to process and understand speech, especially in noise. Treating hearing loss sooner rather than later helps to preserve an individual’s ability to understand. Even with hearing aids, some individuals will struggle to understand due to changes to the brain and auditory system caused by delaying the treatment of hearing loss.
If you have a family member who has hearing loss, there are things you can do to help conversations be more productive and joyful. Some strategies that help are eliminating background noise, speaking more slowly and distinctly to give the individual time to process, and rephrasing instead of simply repeating when someone does not understand. Patience and kindness help.
If you suspect you or a loved one has an undiagnosed hearing loss, a complete audiometric evaluation will help determine if the problem is just a hearing loss, or if it is a more complicated problem involving a decreased ability to discriminate speech sounds or inability to separate speech from noise. For those who wear hearing aids several things can be done to improve holiday hearing. Having hearing aids deep cleaned, removing earwax, or if the hearing aids are more than a year old, having hearing re-tested and reprogramming hearing aids may help hearing and understanding.
As the year winds down, it’s a great time to focus on strategies that can help you minimize your tax burden. Here are three effective tactics you can implement before December 31:
1. Maximize Retirement Contributions
One of the simplest ways to reduce your taxable income is to contribute to tax-advantaged retirement accounts. For 2024, the IRS allows individuals under 50 to contribute up to $23,000 to a 401(k) and up to $7,000 to a traditional IRA. ose 50 or older can contribute an additional $1,000, respectively. Contributions to these accounts are tax-deductible, meaning they lower your taxable income while boosting your retirement savings.
2. Make Charitable Donations
Charitable giving is not only a generous act but also an effective taxreduction strategy. Donations made to qualified charities by year-end can be deducted from your taxable income if you itemize deductions. Beyond cash donations, consider donating appreciated assets like stocks, which allows you to avoid capital gains taxes while still claiming a deduction for the asset’s full market value. Be sure to keep proper documentation of your contributions to satisfy IRS requirements.
3. Harvest Tax Losses
If you have investments that have lost value, consider selling them to offset any capital gains you’ve realized this year. is strategy, known as tax-loss harvesting, can also offset up to $3,000 of ordinary income annually. Any unused losses can be carried forward to future years. Pair this strategy with rebalancing your portfolio to align with long-term financial goals.
Implementing these strategies before the year ends can lead to significant savings come tax season. Need help? Call us at (720) 949-7733 to help tailor these strategies to your specific financial situation and ensure compliance with IRS regulations.

If you really need to sell your home, you don’t have to wait until after the holidays. While there are fewer homebuyers, those actively searching are often committed to making a swift move due to reasons such as lease endings, job relocations, or military transfers.
You can make your home stand out in several ways:
Price it right. A lower price will excite buyers, but only accept a fair offer.
Clean and declutter. For a few hundred dollars, a cleaning crew will make your home look spotless. Pack away anything you don’t need in moving boxes and store them in a seldom-used room.
Keep holiday decor simple. String lights and evergreen branches. Skip the big tree and place a small one on a tabletop instead. Bake cookies and serve cinnamon cider for showings.
Prioritize the exterior. Make sure leaves are picked up, snow is shoveled, and walkways are safely de-iced.
Let someone else host dinners and parties. You can still enjoy holiday festivities without doing all the cooking and planning yourself. Friends and relatives will understand.
Your Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Colorado Real Estate Forever Agent SM is dedicated to guiding you through every step of your real estate journey—even during the holiday season.
