In small 8vo, xxii[ii], 315[1]pp, doublepage colour map frontis, two further double-page colour maps. Original blindstamped red pebble-grained cloth gilt, black endpapers. Extremes slightly rubbed; small nick to spine head cloth; spine a little dull; scattered tiny stains to cloth; rst two sheets semi-detached, along with hinge cracked at p.96-97; rest of binding holding rm. Good copy.

Lot. 3182 Starting Price: 40 € LYBYER Albert Howe, e Government of the Ottoman Empire in the Time of Suleiman the Magni cent, Havard University Press, 1913. 1st edition, in 8vo, p. x+349. One of the most important essays on history of Ottoman Empire, which reached its apogee in the 16th century under Suleiman the Magni cent. A richly detailed history based on economic, political and social issues, along with descriptions of great battles (Constantinople, Rhodes, Lepanto). It has been said that, just as Greece has her Lord Byron, so Turkey has her Lord Kinross. Strongly bound in the publisher’s rust colored linen. Titled in gilt on the spine and the front panel. Internally with bright and clean pages; handwritten inscription on front endpaper. Fine copy overall.

Lippincott Co., 1913. 1st edition, in 8vo, p. 335+[16 advertisement pages for Seeley & Co.]. It contains numerous b&w illustrations and a frontispiece. e author - Bernard Granville Baker (1870-1957) was a British soldier and painter, specializing in military subjects who wrote and illustrated a number of books. Dark orange cloth titled in gilt over front board and spine; spine slightly dull, boards with minimum wear. Text block upper edge gilt. Binding generally rm, clean and bright illustrations, unmarked pages. Very Good copy.

Lot. 3185 Starting Price: 38 € YALMAN AHMED EMIN, “Turkey in My Time”, University of Oklahoma Press: Norman, 1956. 1st edition, 8vo, pp.: x, 294, with B&W photos and 2 maps. e rst comprehensive personal account by a Turk since the early governmental reforms were initiated. Hardcover in original beige cloth, with black lettering in red outline on spine and colourful geometric design on front board. No dust jacket. Excellent interior. Fine copy overall.

With 18 b/w illustrations and a double-page sketch map of Eastern Europe and Turkey. Fine cloth copy in a near ne illustrated dust jacket (originally pusblushed). Particularly and surprisingly well-preserved; tight, bright, clean and especially sharp-cornered.
