2020 - 2021
Final degree project
Martín Castro & Mauro Pizurnia
Role: Design and documentation
FADU – UDELAR

The UCPA was my final project for university, created in collaboration with my friend and colleague Mauro Pizurnia. At the time, I was deeply immersed in historical research at the Montevideo City Council and eager to explore the potential of successful heritage restoration.
During the quiet days of the pandemic, we embarked on several scouting bike tours around the city. One day, we stumbled upon a striking, factory-like, run-down façade not far from the city center. We were instantly captivated by its raw character. Despite my efforts at the council archive, we couldn’t access any plans or detailed building history.
This challenge turned the project into an imaginative exercise, where we re-envisioned the structure as a dynamic spatial experience that could be reasonably constructed using Uruguayan building technologies. Our goal was to create an adaptable, multifunctional space where the old traditions of the site could be reframed in a modern context, breathing new life into a forgotten architectural gem.

02//WENTWORTH MILITARY MUSEUM
2024
Military Museum, Architecture competition
Led by: Libby Warwick & Andrew Pawlowski
Role: Architecture visualization, modelling
Salt Studio

Libby and Andrew welcomed me warmly when I knocked on their studio door at just the right moment. They have been working on a commission for a museum in the Australian outback and needed someone skilled in modeling and rendering to prepare visuals for the jury.
That serendipitous knock landed me my first professional experience in Australia. The very next day, I joined their team, diving into modeling the museum and experimenting with the volume as we refined the design. Throughout the process, I was able to contribute ideas drawn from museums I visited travelling and buildings of my home country.
In addition to creating the renders, I produced a flythrough animation that was well-received by the client. A few months later, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the project had gained national coverage in the Herald Sun. While the article sadly didn’t credit Salt Studio for the design it was thrilling to see my renders featured in a major newspaper. It represented a small but meaningful milestone worth celebrating.

03//CENTRO CULTURAL ARTESANO
2018 - 2022
Heritage refurbishment project
Led by: Alejandro Berro
Role: Design hand/construction management
Heritage Division - Montevideo City Council

This project focused on the restoration of a landmark in Montevideo’s Peñarol neighborhood, renown for its rich industrial heritage tied to the railway system. Originally built in the late 1800s for the workers of the Central Uruguay Railways, this theater (later converted into a cinema) was a cultural cornerstone of the grand model of industrialization established by the British in the area.
My role in this project involved drafting and conducting site inspections. As is often the case with council-directed projects, many decisions were made on-site, and the documentation was kept intentionally flexible to accommodate these later adjustments.
The tight budget posed a significant challenge, but it also became an opportunity to explore creative solutions. I focused on reusing materials and implementing cost-effective design ideas to achieve the project’s vision without compromising quality or functionality.
