The Declan Queally-trained Robaddan made a winning debut when taking the five-year-old geldings’ maiden at Ballyarthur under Michael Sweeney. The son of Flemensfirth was up with the pace throughout, in a contest which saw the field get well strung out on the soft ground conditions. Having jumped well for much of the journey, the five-yearold was sent about his business three-out and the chesnut galloped on well in the closing stages to see off a number of challengers. Out of a four-time winner, this good-looking sort should have no problem making his mark felt under rules.

The Donnchadh Doyle-trained Vandemere got off the mark at the second time of asking when taking the first division of the four-yearold maiden at Portrush in impressive fashion. Third behind a couple of smart looking prospects on his debut at Borris earlier in the month, the son of Jeremy stepped up on that effort here to win comprehensively.

The good-looking bay bounced out and made much of the running on this occasion, before showing a smart turn of foot in the closing stages to win by seven lengths. A â‚Ź50,000 purchase at the Goffs Land Rover Sale last Summer this exciting prospect should prove high class under rules.

Pens Man made his only start a winning one when taking the four-yearold maiden at Lisronagh for Sam Curling. Always up with the pace, the son of Sholokhov was very slick over his obstacles throughout.

Travelling smoothly into the contest under Pat King, the chesnut picked up smartly in the closing stages to record a comprehensive twolength success. With a number of expensive purchases shaping well in behind, this maiden may well prove to be a decent affair, considering it also clocked the fastest time of the day. Already a half-brother to three winners, this likeable sort looks to have a big future ahead of him.

The daughter of Cloudings readily pulled clear from the penultimate obstacle to record a two and a half-length success on somewhat testing ground conditions. This horse then won an 11-runner, three-mile maiden point-to-point at Brampton Bryan, showing he could jump as well as gallop. On the latter occasion he was given a patient ride, eased into contention on the final circuit, led running to the last and won readily by two and a half lengths and one and a half lengths, but the margin could have been greater. A Land Rover Sale graduate and a son of champion sire Martaline, he is out of a mare who was placed in a Listed hurdle in France, and has produced one other winner in that country from just four foals.

Castlegrace Rose left a lasting impression when finishing a fine second on her only start to date in the four-year-old mares’ maiden at Ballyarthur. Trained by Aidan Fitzgerald, the daughter of Oscar jumped and travelled notably well throughout, before coming to throw down a strong challenge after the penultimate obstacle under Derek O’Connor.

The half-sister to Grade 2 chase winner Castlegrace Paddy, battled on gamely in the home straight before tiring a little late in the day. Having lost little in defeat here, this debutant looks open to plenty of improvement and has the potential to develop into a very smart mare.

The son of Mahler was given a patient ride by Eoin O’Brien and caught the eye travelling strongly throughout. The bay made steady progress into the contest inside the final mile and was setting off in pursuit of the leaders when a mistake two-out hindered his chances. To his credit this likable sort came out of the pack to chase down the leaders on the run to the last and was doing his best work at the finish. Out of a full-sister to Oscar Time this four-year-old should be a progressive sort for new connections.

Having caught the eye travelling very smoothly into the contest, the son of Dubai Destination was tight for room on the run to three-out. To his credit the good jumping sort found plenty for pressure when asked for his effort, keeping on gamely over the last couple of fences to record a two and a half-length success. Going forward this likeable gelding looks likely to progress into a fine staying prospect under rules.

Trained by Colin Bowe, the ₏55,000 store was given a positive ride by James Kenny and disputing the running for much of the contest, which was run at solid gallop throughout. Having pulled clear with the eventual winner from three-out the French-bred stuck gamely to his task in the closing stages, where a mistake at the final fence didn’t help his chances. The bay was only beaten two lengths at the line and certainly looks to be a smart sort in his own right.

Considering that this contest was run at a very strong gallop and that the winner pulled clear from a fair way out, this was certainly a promising debut from the bay. Ellen Doyle’s charge rallied gamely to the line, almost collaring the winner in the dying strides. With the leading pair pulling 10 lengths clear of the field, they both look like very decent prospects and this likeable sort could well progress into a very exciting type on the track proper.

The son of Winged Love jumped notably well throughout the contest and picked up the running at the half-way point. Clearly travelling best under Ben Crawford turning for home, the gelding held off a strong challenge from the previously placed runner-up and won with plenty in hand at the line. Already a half-brother to two winners, this debutant appears to be a high-class prospect who should be capable of making a name for himself on the track proper.
