It seems that every year summer comes sooner and sooner… and as parents we are usually not fully prepared for its challenges. All parents would like to see their children active, making friends and interacting with good role models. Our vision in Community Resource Services is that every child enjoys some type of recreational activity during the summer.
This directory provides a list of organizations in the San Fernando Valley that offers recreational activities for youth. It includes programs from Department of Parks and Recreation, Community Colleges, LAUSD, the Boys and Girls Club, YMCA and much more. We have also listed our favorite overnight summer camps: Camp Bob Waldorf, UCLA UniCamp, and Woodcraft Rangers’ Stanly Ranch Camp.
The Child and Family Guidance Center is an LA County Department of Mental Health (DMH) contractor that provides Specialized Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI) services to children, transition age youth, and adults utilizing evidence-based treatment interventions (EBPs) that are consistent with LAC/DMH Mental Health Services Act (MHSA).
The Center also provides families with access to a comprehensive continuum of services depending on the needs of the family ranging from once a week; time limited mental services (PEI) to intensive in-home services that are delivered several times a week with 24-7 availability for crises.
The Community Resource Services is a division dedicated to improving the quality of life for special needs children and their families by helping them to locate, access, and effectively use essential community health and social services.

This summer, the City is providing safe, fun programs for youth ages 6 to 14 at 46 LA City Parks. Enroll your child in affordable programming with activities such as sports, fitness programs, arts and crafts, and more.

This program provides current 6th-grade students the opportunity to earn credit and qualify for placement into Accelerated Math 7/8 in the fall, positioning them to complete Algebra 1 by the end of 8th grade.
Grade 7
This program provides current 7th-grade students the opportunity to earn credit and qualify for placement into Accelerated Algebra 1 in 8th grade.

LACCD Summer Dual Enrollment (DE)
High school students including rising 9th graders currently enrolled have the opportunity to participate in dual enrollment courses through the Districtwide Summer Dual Enrollment Program in partnership with the Los Angeles Community College District. Through this program, students may earn both high school and college credit.

Virtual Honors UC Personal Insight Questions Course
High school 11th grade students currently enrolled can take advantage of the Virtual Honors UC Personal Insight Questions (PIQs) program. In this live, interactive virtual course, students receive guided support to:

• Build out their Activities and Awards section
• Earn G elective credits toward graduation
Sessions are led by secondary educators who support students in presenting their best selves ahead of senior year and the college application season.

Extended School Year (ESY) services are designed to support students with disabilities who require continued instruction beyond the regular academic year to maintain critical skills and prevent regression.

2026 Extended School Year (ESY) Sites by Region
Migrant Education Program
The Migrant Education Program (MEP) provides supplemental educational support for migratory children and youth ages 3–21. The program helps students strengthen their skills in English Language Arts, English Language Development, mathematics, science, and the arts.
Through a special partnership with the Los Angeles Zoo, elementary students participate in engaging educational experiences that include zoo visits, collaboration with a zoologist, behind-the-scenes learning opportunities, and student presentations about selected animals.
Transportation is provided from designated school sites.
Eligibility: Los Angeles Unified considers students “migrant students” if the parent, guardian or family member in the household is a migratory worker in the agricultural, dairy, lumber, packing, fishing or livestock industries, has performed the work within the last 36 months, and traveling with that child. International Newcomer
The International Newcomer Enrichment Summer Program (INESP) is open to high school International Newcomer students in grades 9- 12. This includes International Newcomer students matriculating from 8th grade to 9th, known as “Rising 9th graders. Upon completion of our summer program, students will receive up to ten elective credits towards A-G.
Students attending the summer program receive academic language development, integrating listening, speaking, reading, writing support, wrap-around services, and an enrichment field trip. The program will also consist of guest and student speaker panels, college and career readiness skills, and promote success in A-G courses.

Each YMCA has different activities and services available, such as after-school programs, day camp, and sports. The programs are located at various Elementary Schools sites in the Valley. Please call the YMCA nearest you for specific activities. They offer scholarships for low-income families and their children. The caregiver must pick up the application form at the main office. The scholarships may vary according to the location, and they are on a first-come, first served basis. All YMCAs have a Counselor in Training Program (C.I.T.) Youth ages 16-17 can participate in the local Day Camp or attend the Resident overnight camps as a Counselor and learn leadership skills under the supervision of an adult Camp Counselor.

Year-Round After-School Program for children ages 5-18. Elementary school youth play games, do homework, and take enrichment classes. Teens plan their field trips, movie club, games, and other activities. Open Monday through Thursday from 2:30 pm-6:00 pm. Homework assistance is provided. The program is free. There is a waitlist for the Summer Program.

Camp Bob Waldorf (CBW) is a non-denominational camp located in Glendale, is available for campers currently in grades 3-12th Camp serves low-income families with the goal of providing campers with enriching activities during the summer.
Campers will be in groups of 9 or 10 of their peers, and two trained adult counselors They have a variety of incredible activities to offer this summer, including but not limited to athletics, arts, ropes course, archery, cooking, swimming, and more! NO transportation will be provided. families need to drop off and pick up their children camp. They have four sessions. Cost $600. Financial assistance is available.

Any child or teen ages 6-17 who has experienced the human death of someone significant/close to them. The death must have occurred at least 3 months before, and within 3 years of the camp session date they wish to attend. 18-year-olds will still be enrolled in (not graduated from) high school at the time they attend camp, and they are eligible to apply for camp.
