ARCHITECTURAL THESIS ON A SHOPPING MALL

INTRODUCTION

A mall is defined as a shoping centre which is typically enclosed, climate controlled and lighted.

It is flanked in both sides by store fronts and entrances.Onsite parking , either surfaced or structured is usually provided around the perimeter of the mall.

Some of the renowned malls of the world include :1. Mall Of America.

2. Mall Of Emirates.

3. The Dubai Mall.

4. West Edmonton Mall.

5. Beijing Mall.

WHY SHOPPING MALL ?

ANSWER Shopping Mall is a modern , chiefly North American term for shopping precinct or shopping center in which one or more buildings form a complex of shops with interconnecting walkways.

Shopping malls in India acquire about 10% of retailing space in India with 30% of retailing space in metro cities.

This was thought considering the need and era of the new smart city in which shopping mall may soon become a necessity and a prime location for a visit.

Theidea of the shopping mall has been trending since the past 13th century. Shopping malls provide a favourable work environment for the employees working here and also pleases and attracts customers. As a result both the customers and employees get a pleasing and a favourable environment.

SITE ANALYSIS

LOCATION The site is located in the state of rajasthan in the city of ajmer on makarwali road, block ' a', panchsheel nagar.

SITE SURROUNDING The site is surrrounded by four roads :1. 100' wide 2. 160' wide 3. 60' wide

ACCESS TO THE SITE 1. bus stand - 6.7 kms 2. railway station - 9.0 kms 3. kishangarh airport - 30.0 kms AREA SURROUNDED BY :The land is surrounded by a township named prithviraj nagar. this township is not fully developed. only a few buildings have been extruded.

OWNERSHIP The site is owned by ajmer development authority ( ada ) . the site comes under the new scheme according to the smart city development plan.

ADVANTAGES 1. The site has been chosen according to the upcoming smart city plan of the govt.

2. The site possesses ample area for the development of the mall.

3. the site is surrounded by all necessary eminities.

DISADVANTAGES 1. The site is far away from the main city.

2. The site is exposed to extreme waether conditions since there is no significant development around the area.

EFFECT ON OTHER BUILDINGS. INCREASE IN THE PRICE OF THE VALUE OF THE SURROUNDING AREA. AJMER DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (ADA ) has beeen formed to design the urban pattern plan. the city of the future.

The vision is to improve the existing situation in a planned manner, utilise urban land in the best manner, acquire the land for urban development residential and commercial chemes.

AJMER - ABOUT THE CITY In the southwest of the capital of the state, ajmer is an oasis wrapped in green hills. the founder of the city was raja ajaypal chouhan. the power was till 1993 a.d.

Today, ajmer is a popular pilgrimage centre for both hindus and muslims. the hindus are attracted to one of the most religious destination of pilgrimage which possess the one and only temple of bramha which is situated in pushkar.

DESIGN

ABOUT THE DESIGN The design of the building envelope considers modern architecture. The five points of architecture are the inspiration of the current design.

The ground coverage according to laws of ADA is 40%. which has been achived during the design process. The building envelope spreads on about 26,400 sq.m.

The building envelope possess all the necessary eminities mandatory for a shopping mall. It is designed in such a way that anyone visiting the mall gets entertained instantly.

The site as well as the envelpe is beautified with natural vegetation which is the pride of the envelopw as well as the site.

There is ample space for the visitors as well as the staff to park there vehicles on the site. Any type of predicted hinderance has been avoided.

There is enough space at the plinth which is open to sky to welcome the visitors who visit the envelope.

The set backs have been efficiently and effectively used for the vegetation purposes.

LOO SCAPING Factors improving the ambience are :1. Introducing plants which can be maintained inside the loo.

2. Placing of wall pictures and illuminated with designated lighting.

3. The pictures or wall papers should be water proof.

4. placing of ornaments and sculptures at the dead corners of the toilet.

CONCEPT The design concept chosen for the shopping mall is modern architecture which began during the period of 1920's.this includes sleek geometric boxes made up of glass and steel.

The renowned archictects who honoured this concept are walter gropius, Mies van de rohe, Le corbusier and etc.

The famous examples of the modern architecture are the villa savoye, the sanskar kendra and etc.The main characteristic of this type of architecture is steel framed building and glass facade.

THE FIVE POINTS OF ARCHITECTURE BY LE CORBUSIER 1. The skeletol plan 2.The open or free plan independent of supports.

3.The terrace for public activity / the roof garden.

4.The continous windows.

5.The vertical facade free from supports.

LANDSCAPING The landscaping shall be designed considering the elevation of the building.

It shall enhance the overall design.

The elements are :1. The flower beds.

2. The sculptures for the light show.

3. The sitting area.

4. The play area for the children.

NOTE :1. Light is an important aspect of the building in modern architecture.

2. The shops may be categorised according to the products sold by them 3. The glass paintings on the wall may depict important points of the indian history.

4. Any special feature required for the landscaping purposes shall be added.

MODERNISM Modernism has its roots in industrialisation. The medici weremodernists.

Some say W .Blake was pomo having lived in an age where electrical field study informed the minds of adventurous.

Modernism seems to exclude the commons, the village, the glory in force and the nation clarity. as aliteral moment it might have a completely opposite sentic. We become accustomed to mental forms which leads to social institutions falling into the hands of the mentally lazy, weak and dishonest society that becomes ossified forms cease generative functions and we become inhabitants.

Modernism can be referred to technology and industrialisation and such economic entities as a part of modernism. the modernists exist highly with the writings of joyce.
