This class is an introduction to Ballet. We use fun props during class to keep the little ones engaged as they learn. A variety of age appropriate music is played.

Dance Storytime and dance etiquette are also incorporated into class. This class is a progressive build and continues to build each session throughout the year. This class requires parent/guardian participation. All students have performance opportunities!

LET’S LEARN CHINESE

FOLKLORICO & WORLD CLASS DANCE This class introduces students to the fundamentals of Folklorico and World Dance.

Students will develop essential dance techniques while learning traditional choreography from diverse cultures around the world. Designed as a progressive course, each session builds on the last to support the continued growth and confidence of movements.

Throughout the course, students will develop proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing simplified Chinese characters using Pinyin. Classes will be conducted in a bilingual format utilizing both Chinese and English to enhance comprehension.

JEDI MASTERS In this program, your youngling will explore the galaxy with their master building skills and our intergalactically-focused curriculum. Motivated to become Jedi like the heroes in the movies, students will learn to concentrate on mastering the Force, appreciating the use of teamwork to build battle drones and AT-Walkers, and if their skills are up to par, make their very own lightsaber and use it in battle! May the force be with your young Padawan as they rise through the Jedi ranks! Our Lego® bricks sets are reused and not taken home.

STARS CLUB STARS Club offers on-site after-school activities including homework assistance, enrichment activities, and sports/activities in a fun and well supervised environment. The program is offered at La Rosa, Longden, Cloverly, and Emperor Elementary Schools in the Temple City Unified School District (TCUSD). Care is provided for youth in grades kinder through 6th on site from school dismissal time until 6 p.m. Pre-registration is required for participation and includes care Monday-Friday during regular and minimum days.

Temple City Unified School District Sites: La Rosa, Cloverly, Longden, Emperor Elementary Registration opens July 13, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.

SUMMER SPORTS BLITZ

In this camp, students dive into the exciting world of amusement parks they design and build their own mini rides! Using gears motors, axels, and lots of imagination kids will create models inspired by favorites like Ferris wheels, swing rides , roller coasters , and even a Go-Kart. As they build, test, and tweak their creations, they'll discover how movement and balance bring your curiosity and big ideas!

VOLLEYBALL Ready to serve up some fun? Join our co-ed Volleyball League for grades 5–8 and get in the game! Players of all skill levels will learn the basics, build confidence, and improve through drills focused on serving, passing, setting, and hitting.

Movies in the Park

Practices emphasize skill development, teamwork, and game strategy, giving players plenty of reps and real-game scenarios to grow each week. Practices are held at Live Oak Park, with Saturday games at Oak Middle School Gym (6623 Oak Ave), and the program includes a t-shirt, games, practices, and a trophy to wrap up the season.

Registration begins: July 13th, 2026 *Some players may be invited to play on an all-star team that will compete in the San Gabriel Valley SCMAF (Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation) tournament in November.

Transportation and Youth Scholarship DIAL-A-RIDE Dial-A-Ride is an appointment based public transportation service for Temple City residents aged 60 years or older or for residents below the age of 60 with a disability. Dial-A-Ride will transport residents to any destination within the City or to designated locations within the cities of Arcadia, El Monte, San Gabriel and Rosemead. Dial-A-Ride also accommodates adjacent unincorporated residents, providing transportation services within Temple City boundaries only.

YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM The City of Temple City's Youth Scholarship provides funding to income qualified families for City -sponsored programs. To see if you qualify for the program, families must complete an application, prove residency, and provide income documentation. If approved, a 50% or 75% scholarship discount will be applied toward recreation programs offered through the City of Temple City’s Parks and Recreation Department.

Neon Night Walk Friday, July 24 7:30–9:30 P.M. LIVE OAK PARK

CAMELLIA TRUST FUND Temple City’s Camellia Trust Fund is available to income qualified Temple City families. Applications will be considered to meet an immediate need for children under the age of 18 for non-City sponsored programs. BALLETFIT BARRE MIX

TAI CHI PRACTICE

This class is a low-impact, muscle toning and conditioning, full body workout. We will be targeting muscle groups to lengthen, tighten, and strengthen key areas of the body.

This workout increases flexibility, sculpts & tones muscles, burns fat, improves posture and enhances self-confidence. You should wear comfortable clothes that allow ease of movement, Ballet shoes or socks.

The Practice Sessions are intended to provide beginner students additional opportunities to reinforce what they have learned in the teaching sessions. These practice sessions will be led by Master Sam Guo.

YANG STYLE TAI CHI Yang style Tai Chi in its many variations is the most popular and widely practiced style of Tai Chi in the world today. CHEN STYLE TAI CHI Chen style Tai Chi is a Northern Chinese martial art and the original form of Tai Chi. Chen style is characterized by silk reeling, alternating fast and slow motions, and bursts of power. Intermediate class will continue reviewing Chen 83 and learning Chen 71. For those who have no prior experience in Trai Chi, please start with the Beginner Yang style.

Upon arrival, you will be greeted by your tour guide and taken to your lunch venue (included) at Litle Italy's oldest restaurant. you will be served antipasto salad with mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, Sicilian green olives, garbanzo beans, and piled high with Calabrese Salami and Mortadella meat with a creamy house Italian dressing Entrée will include Lasagna with meat sauce (vegetarian marinara only upon request) and garlic bread with a soft drink coffee or tea served with Sicilian cannoli and assorted Italian cookies for dessert. After lunch, you will be taken on a senior-friendly guided tour of Little Italy with your guide.

Special access inside Little Italy's historic church too. At 3:00 p.m. everyone will have some free time on their own for shopping and visiting the food shops, bakeries, etc., before getting back on the bus at 4:15 p.m. to return.

We will meet at Live Oak Park bright and early in the morning, then take the bus down to the Long Beach terminal. Where we will then catch a ferry to go over to Avalon. We will depart from Long Beach on the 9:50 a.m. ferry and return on the ferry that leaves Avalon at 7:45 p.m. Enjoy the day with your friends and family. You will have the whole day to explore Catalina Island.

Your admission also allows you to go to the Riverside Art Museum or you can browse through downtown Riverside on your own, maybe take a stroll over to the Mission Inn. ZUMBA GOLD Zumba Gold is a lower-intensity dance class that is a modified version of the popular Zumba exercise class. The class focuses on balance, range of motion, and coordination while providing cardiovascular condition, muscle, and flexibility.

National Night Out August 5 6 to 9 P.M. TEMPLE CITY PARK In partnership with the Sheriff’s Department, Temple City is cohosting National Night out on August 6th. This event strengthens and builds a safer Temple City for all. Residents are encouraged to attend and enjoy an evening of live music (held during the Concerts in the Park series), free food, public safety information booths, giveaways and more!

Senior Meal Program Attention seniors ages 60 and older: Get a hot lunch, participate in activities, and socialize with friends and neighbors. Monthly menus are available at Live Oak Park Community Center and online at templecity.us/lunch. Coffee is available for just 25 cents per cup- the best price in town! Reservations are required 24 hours in advance; call (626) 579-0461. A $3 donation for lunch is requested.

Dial-A-Ride Dial-A-Ride is an appointment-based ride service that provides curb-to-curb transportation service for community members 60 years and older, or under 60 years of age with a physical, psychological or developmental disability. Dial-A-Ride will transport residents to any destination within the City or to designated locations outside of the City. Dial-A-Ride also accommodates adjacent unincorporated residents, providing transportation services within Temple City boundaries only.

We are now allowing same day sign-up for Dial-A-Ride (dependent on ridership volume). This service operates 7 days a week, appointments can be made up to seven days in advance and is .50 cents per ride.

Dial-A-Ride applications can be provided at Live Oak Park, 10144 Bogue Street, online at www.templecityca.gov/445/Dial-A-Ride, or by postal mail. You may contact Jennifer Venters, Parks and Recreation Secretary to have a Dial-A-Ride application mailed to your home.

Compost Giveaway Event RON MCKIERNAN, this year’s Older American Award recipient, truly embodies the 2026 theme, Champion Your Health, through his lifelong passion for cycling and dedication to community wellness. As the owner of Temple City Bike Shop since 2018, Ron promotes active living by helping individuals maintain and safely enjoy their bicycles. A former professional BMX racer who transitioned into motocross, he continues to lead by example through his active lifestyle. Ron generously gives back by donating bikes to the Women’s Club and Relay for Life, and by mentoring local youth through the Boy Scouts, where he helps participants earn their bike safety badges and complete required rides. His ongoing commitment to health, generosity, and community engagement has earned him numerous recognitions and makes him a true champion of healthy aging.
