In 1959, Berry Gordy founded his own record company, Motown Records, in two humble houses on Detroit's West Grand Boulevard.

He hung a " Hitsville USA " sign on the door.

Shortly after the record label was established, Gordy launch ed hi s f irst work:

"Money (That's What I Want)" by Barrett Strong.

The record was a big hit.

In the 1990s , the company launched w e l l - k n o w n combinations such as BoyzII and Men.

In 19 6 8 , Motown Musicians occupied five of the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 196 8, the company moved to a larger office in the city center.

Signed a contract with Motown in 1960 and 16 works entered the top ten of the list.

In 1969 , thanks to the mayor's appreciation, the five brothers of Jackson were able to meet Motown owner Berry Gordy and sign a contract. The band named it and the same year they released their first record "Diana Ross Presents The Jackson 5".

In 1972 , Motown produced two solo albums for Michael Jackson, "Got To Be There" and "Ben" In 1970 , they released several more records, and these albums also produced champion singles such as "The Love You Save". This group of teenagers has achieved unprecedented results of their peers.

GraďŹƒti in Detroit

Initially, graďŹƒti was a gang symbol. Several of them who were talented in painting began to design new labels by themselves because of their dissatisfaction with the ugly gang labels. From then on, these gang symbols became good-looking.

Nowadays, graffiti has become a kind of art. Graffiti artists not only express their inspiration on the wall, but also harmonize the social status with an aesthetic attitude.

Sculpture and installation There are many installations and sculptures in Detroit, s o me f r o m g o v e r n m e n t c o n s t r u c t i o n , a n d s o m e are created by artists. They have different symbolic meanings. These devices allow viewers to stay in the room and interpret based on their own understanding.

The vision of the Heidelberg project is to inspire people to appreciate and use artistic expression to enrich their lives and improve the social and economic health of the entire community.

In 1891, sales sheds were built and the Farmer's Market was moved from Cadillac Square to its present location and renamed Eastern Market.

Following World War II, more wholesalers and food processors moved into the area, and Eastern Market developed into an important hub for the wholesale food distribution industry.

The Farmer's Market in Detroit was first opened in 1841 at Cadillac Square in the downtown area.

Case Study Along the Dequindre Cut and Gratiot Avenue, where less of the historic fabric s u rviv e s , de ns e re sid en t ia l mixe d -us e development is proposed. An increase in the local residential population will enliven the public realm, especially in the evening, when Eastern Market is mostly deserted.

The twist, in this case, is that fabrication and light manufacturing spaces are encouraged on the ground floor rather than retail. The goal is to encourage smaller-scale food and fabrication businesses that complement the larger-scale facilities being planning in the market expansion area. In addition, favoring fabrication spaces over retail will help steer retail businesses closer to the market sheds, where food-focused retail already benefits from the busy public market.

Projecet Site The project site is located in the Eastern Market in the east of downtown Detroit, and the Heidelberg project and Dequindre Cut are around the site. The core of the site is the market, and there are some factories and shops in the site.

Project Brief Cultural Area

Landscape Square Tr a ff i c System Walking, biking trails and horseback riding trails replace some areas where cars are driving. In this way, people are allowed to move slowly in this area to enjoy more scenery and culture.

The landscape square is in a natural environment. Most of these buildings are giant building installations.

The abandoned factory has been transformed into a multi-functional center. Divided into upper and lower floors, the upper floor can be viewed.

It is planned to be a large cultural center with green spaces, such as a concert hall, graffiti park, and sculpture square. In terms of transportation, only the pedestrians and bicycles are allowed to flow in the center of the site. The connecting bridge connects the various attractions and finally leads to other areas. Cars can only drive on the roads around the site.

Some are abandoned buildings, only some buildings are still in use.

There are many graffiti works on the exterior wall of the building.

As the main building in the area, the building is a multi-functional building. The ground floor can be used as a market during peak seasons to share the flow of people in the East Market. In the offseason, exhibitions and galleries can be held on the ground floor, and temporary indoor walls can be added or removed according to different needs.

The top floor contains some small shops, souvenir shops and coffee shops. You can also enjoy the surrounding scenery on the top floor.

Regional Overall The area is built into a large cultural and artistic park. Visitors walk or cycle to various buildings, move around to view the scenery, and devote themselves to the environment of art and nature.

There are many green spaces in the area and relatively quiet, and cars will generate noise and pollution.

Riding and bicycles are the means of transportation.

This area is very quiet, with only a few housing buildings and large green areas. Although the road planning is very regular, the road utilization rate is very low.

Divide this area into three parts, one part is the horse farm, one part is the living area, and the other part is nature. Remove most of the roads and add new modes of transportation for horse riding. Horses can travel freely in residential areas and natural areas, and ďŹ nally lead to the Heidelberg project.
