Editor's Note
Since the pandemic started, it has affected the world and changed people's daily lives.
In this magazine we will cover 5 topics related to life during the pandemic.
Pandemic Fashion The changes in people’s dressing fashion In this pandemic, the fashion world has taken a major turnaround. Several old trends have returned and many new ones have also been created. Here are some colors that are on the rise right now:
We also started to see patterns, both in bags, shirts, jeans... these are some of these examples:
Pandemic Fashion The changes in people’s dressing fashion With this situation of the pandemic and the isolation, people started to invest in a more comfortable outfit, so, another piece that is in fashion is the tracksuit. More comfortable clothes began to be seen in stores. I'm talking about sweatpants, sweatshirts and baggy clothing.
This pandemic has affected fashion for all ages, not only among teenagers but also among adults. At work it is always necessary to wear a more elegant outfit, now, while teleworking, people do not specifically need to wear professional suits and clothes, but instead opt for a more relaxed and not so heavy outfit. That's where accessories come in. In 2021, many more accessories started to be added to complement the most basic and casual outfits, pearls, medals and more discreet rings also started to be essential!
Pandemic Fashion Fashionable Hairstyles Since the beginning of the pandemic, people have tried to wear things that are more comfortable and casual, with hairstyles it is no different. People are choosing to wear messier and more comfortable hairstyles:
Thi
Pandemic Fashion Accessories we can't no longer live without Due to the pandemic there are essential accessories to go out on the street...
Handbags are one example. Nothing too extravagant, something simple, which combines with anything but useful in the times in which we live... whenever we leave our house it is advisable to have sanitiser, even if it is just to go to the park for example. Of course, the masks are also not left out. Since we have to use them, at least, they match our look! Some are simpler, others are more radical, but it is undoubtedly a detail that many do not forget.
Pandemic Fashion Predictions for the future We cannot say anything about the pandemic from now on, but if there is anything we can say, it is that there will be new trends in fashion. Based on the future and expert opinions, we were able to gather some predictions from the fashion field. Here they are: Patterns/ Print:

Solidarity Actions in Pandemic Era Introduction to the topic The year of 2020 was an atypical year for all of us. It was a year marked by SARS Covid19, a disease that started in China and that quickly, without realizing it, spread all over the world. We had to get away from our relatives, to have family parties differently and to value hugs. We learnt, above all, to communicate with the eyes and to have to smile with them. It was also with the pandemic that Solidarity took on another meaning. We realize how important it is to help each other. In our work we will talk about issues related to solidarity, that is, how we can help others.
Solidarity Actions in Pandemic Era Solidarity actions that we hear of In 2019, a new coronavirus was identified as the cause of an outbreak of the disease that originated in China. The virus is now known as severe acute respiratory coronavirus syndrome 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The disease it causes is called coronavirus disease. The people around the world have been hit by this new virus, many have died and many have been left in a fragile economic situation. Some humanitarian institutions have been developing aid projects to minimize negative impacts. Portugal has been prioritizing the allocation of funds available to United Nations agencies (e.g. "core funding") and flexible and/or "non-earmarked" funds such as the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), for which a regular and uninterrupted contribution has been made since its inception. Contributions are also made to various UN agencies operating in the humanitarian field, including UNHCR, UNRWA, UNICEF, WFP, and humanitarian organizations such as the International Red Cross.
Solidarity Actions in Pandemic Era Helping Neighbours and School Friends As my colleague Beatriz mentioned, Covid19 has spoiled a lot of things; we have so many rules to keep us safe! Even so, we can help people not to feel alone by bringing food or the newspapers to the elderly. We need to use masks, and must not give up, because at the moment what we need the most is trust.
Things we can do to improve life in pandemic times The SARS Covid19 pandemic has changed our routines, not only the way we relate, but also our values. One of these values is solidarity. The social distance we are forced to practice every day, makes us miss hugs the most. This lack can be filled by small actions with others. Small gestures that can help others can make a big difference and make the daily life of someone who is in need or who is alone, much better. We can make a difference!
Solidarity Actions in Pandemic Era Things we can do to improve life in pandemic times We all can make things to help with this virus: wash our hands often, wear a mask... But something that a lot of people don’t know is that we can sign petitions to help other people that are in need or alone. In fact, there are a lot of petitions to help people in Africa because of Covid-19. Checking every day the news about this virus is also very important because everyone should keep updated about the covid-19. There are some sites that can help us keep connected with the news and we will put the link of some of these sites together with some petitions at the end of the work. It's very important to help each other like neighbours, family, friends and not to forget the elderly people. This situation has made a lot of people develop mental illnesses, like depression or anxiety, so it's very important to keep in touch with the close ones: one phone call will help a lot.

Solidarity Actions in Pandemic Era The Pandemic and Us In relation to our behaviour and routines, we try to reduce the longing for our family members by making video calls every day. At school, whenever a classmate needs help, whatever it is, we try to help. Madalena Martinho: For example, since we cannot go to each other's homes, we use new technologies to help us overcome some school difficulties, or even to do tasks together. Bruna Santos: My favorite part is that even with the complications, many people do not get discouraged. Matilde Carvalho: One of the things that helped me the most in this pandemia was social media. It made a big difference for me to know about de Covid-19 in general. It was because of social media that I discovered the petitions and what they are used for. It was also because of social media that a lot of teenagers didn't gain any kind of mentally illness or, if they already had one, it didn't get worse. I think it was in social media that I found help for the virus. Beatriz Costa: Since this pandemic started, I stayed at home and I had no contact with anyone. I always use a mask when I go out and I always wash my hands when I get home.
Solidarity Actions in Pandemic Era Topic conclusion In conclusion, we know that even with the Covid19 we can do a lot of things. Also, we cannot be discouraged. Let’s keep helping each other!
Pets in a Pandemic Era Introduction to the topic
During the pandemic, pets brightened the days of many people in confinement, not only because they are cute, but they're also good company, especially for people who live alone.
Pets in a Pandemic Era Favourite home animals Afonso Diogo: My favourite animal is the dog. I don't have any pets, but I would love to have a dog because I find it very cute and it is always a good company! Since I was a kid I always liked animals and, whenever I saw a dog, I touched him. I think dogs shouldn't be living in apartments, because dogs need more freedom and not being stuck in an apartment! I live in a house that could have a dog, but my parents say it is a lot of work. I think that, with the pandemic, the animals suffered a lot because they were often unable to go out into the street.
Pets in a Pandemic Era Favourite home animals Tomás Rodrigues: Like Afonso, I have always liked dogs, and I have always had dogs! My last dog was a poodle mixed with a water dog. But at the moment, I only have a turtle. She is 5 years old and is already quite big. During the day, I don’t have to take care of her that much, just give her food at noon and in the afternoon because she doesn’t eat much. And on weekends, we have to change the water for her. In general, I like all animals, but I just don't like cats! When I was a child, I was attacked by a cat and since that time I have been terrified! As the turtle is a domestic animal, it does not need to leave the house. I have not changed the way I care for her since the quarantine arrived.
Pets in a Pandemic Era Favourite home animals Tomás Jesus: My favourite animal is the dog, I find it very loyal to its owner and very funny at playtime. The breed that I most admire is the “dogo argentino”: it is a breed of dog with all white fur and it may have some spots of another colour. They are imposing when they are adults, but when they are still babies they are very cute and playful. But to have a dog of this size, we cannot live in a small flat, because this dog needs space.
Pets in a Pandemic Era Favourite home animals Rodrigo Carmo: My favorite animal is the dog. I have a baby dog and I love her ...Despite being cute and friendly, dogs also do a little work (hehehe), for example when they spend a lot of time at home because the owners are in classes, the pee and poo will end up on the floor !!! However, as we are in quarantine, we stay at home and spend a lot more time with our furry friends ... and it's a lot of fun!
Pets in a Pandemic Era Improving the animals' lives in pandemic times To improve the lives of our pets while we are in a pandemic, routines change and care also changes. For example, dogs. We take them out to the street to play a little, (currently it is not possible to go for a walk and play all the time because we are in a pandemic) but when we go back home, we have to clean their paws, or give them a quick shower... For turtles, hamsters or birds, routines didn’t change much. In the case of cats too, routines did not change, they just receive more affection and attention from their owners!

Eating in a Covid-19 Challenging World The Covid19 eating challenges With schools and daycare centers closed, many fathers and mothers are at home most of the day, trying to balance care for their sons and daughters, their full-time jobs and other responsibilities. To make things even more difficult, the panic rush to the supermarket and disruptions to the food supply systems mean that it can now be difficult to find some food.
Eating in a Covid19 Challenging World The Covid19 eating challenges Although many fathers, mothers and guardians are understandably looking for ready meals and processed foods as a quick and inexpensive way to feed the family, there are convenient, affordable and healthy alternatives. Buying, storing and cooking fresh vegetables can be a challenge, especially when fathers, mothers and guardians are advised to limit going out. Using fresh vegetables to cook large batches of soups, stews or other dishes will make them last longer and provide dining options for a few days. An important tip for freezing vegetables is to use the method called bleaching agent, which is essential to keep the color alive and the nutrients in the food. The method is simple: just place the vegetable, already clean and sanitized, in boiling water for about 2 to 3 minutes and, after draining, place it in a container with ice to cool and stop cooking.
Eating in a Covid-19 Challenging World Examples of healthy meals To keep us balanced, there are several examples such as salads with cherry tomatoes, cucumber, shredded grilled chicken, among many other options that we can put in a salad. Water is a great idea to accompany any food and we should also eat a piece of fruit that, due to the dose of fructose, replaces added sugars such as gums, chocolates, candies, etc.
Eating in a Covid-19 Challenging World Examples of healthy meals Example of a healhty meal:
Tuna and avocado salad Ingredients (1 part) •Lettuce to taste •1 can of tuna in water •6 tablespoons cooked grain; •Tomato to taste; •Red onion to taste; •½ avocado; •1 boiled egg; •Coriander to taste; •1 dessert spoon of olive oil; •1 dessert spoon of balsamic vinegar; •Salt, lemon juice, garlic powder and pepper.
Preparation method •Just mix everything and you're ready to eat.
Eating in a Covid-19 Challenging World Examples of food that we should avoid Let’s talk now a little bit about foods that are bad for your health, even more during this pandemic of Covid19. It has been a very difficult time in terms of food for your health, so we have to balance our diet, knowing which foods are the most harmful ones. In foods we have to avoid hamburgers, pizzas, french fries, etc.
Finally, the ones that are the most harmful to health - desserts - such as chocolate cake, cookies and chocolate tablets.
And let’s not forget about the drinks, too: coca cola or ice tea due to the excess of sugar.
More than ever, our immune system needs to be strong and therefore it is important to reinforce it with foods that contribute to this, such as: citrus fruits, mushrooms, spinach. Betting on plant-based diet would be ideal!
