Role of university sport in delivery of athletes Vision SASCOC will be the organisation that creates a system that enables the identification and development of the full high performance sporting potential of all South Africans and ensures fundamental transformation in sport and nation building

Mission SASCOC will have established a system that will have transformed South African sport to be inclusive and triumphant by 2017

Key principle agreement (SASCOC/NFs) • NFs are the custodians of their sport • NFs are responsible for preparation of athletes • NFs are responsible for delivery of athletes to sport specific World Championships • SASCOC is responsible for delivery of athletes to multi-coded international events (excl. student sport, Deaflympics, Global Games, World Transplant Games, etc.)

Key principle agreement (SASCOC/NFs) • SASCOC is responsible for supporting preparation of athletes on the OPEX programme

Role of USSA • Acts as a key link: school sport/senior elite level – Ensures that athletes are not lost in the system – Retention of athletes – not turn professional (boxing)

• Scholarships for talented athletes • Need to work closely with Academic departments: – Negotiate athletes’ timetables – special concessions – Assist with mentoring and lifeskills, especially career guidance – Management of Dual Careers: “Student Athlete”

Role of USSA • Consolidated calendar aligned with SASCOC quadrennial calendar and NFs plans • Work with SASCOC on athlete support – Confirm support for athletes to avoid duplication – especially OPEX and Academy athletes – Medical reports: SASCOC Chair of Med Commission – Utilise same protocols

• Selection Policies – Alignment with SASCOC and NFs

Role of USSA • Alignment of Priority Codes • Work closely with the high performance centres/institutes – Monitoring of athletes (in line with NF agreed protocol) – Reporting on relevant information

• Nurturing of next tier of athletes (especially the U/23)

• Alignment with SACF – Ensure coaches are aware of the process – Attendance of relevant coaching meetings and conferences
