The Scary Dream

I woke up to a growling voice. “Wake up! Wake up!” The door opened. A big shadow came into the room. It jumped at me, but then I ran into my kitchen.

And then, I opened a drawer and took out a knife. Three more shadows came up to me. I slashed my knife at one. But it didn’t do any damage. A deep voice said, “Time to stop this terror!” This big sound went PSHHH! The shadows instantly disappeared. The man disappeared too. I said to myself, “It’s just a dream, wake up.” I tried to slap myself in the face. I didn’t wake up. I started to prepare for the worst. Then, a big boom came from my room.

I ran upstairs. My room was destroyed. Then, the door behind me shut and locked. Then a big figure came from behind my TV. And then, he pulled out a sharp, long stick with a very sharp point at the end. He slashed at me but I dodged it.

Then I remembered the knife in my hand. I slashed at him. He turned into a pile of snakes.

They slithered away. I heard a yell downstairs. “Come downstairs!” someone yelled. It turned out that I was sleepwalking.

Una voz fuerte me despertó. “¡Despierta! ¡Despierta!” La puerta se abrió. Una gran sombra entró al cuarto. Saltó hacia mí, pero luego yo corrí a mi cocina.

Abrí un cajón y saqué un cuchillo. Tres sombras más se me acercaron. Corté mi cuchillo en uno. Pero no hizo ningún daño. Una voz profunda dijo: “¡Es hora de detener este terror!” ¡Este gran sonido fue PSHHH! Las sombras desaparecieron instantáneamente. El hombre también desapareció. Me dije a mí mismo, “es solo un sueño, despierta”. Traté de darme una bofetada en la cara. No me desperté. Empecé a prepararme para lo peor. Luego, un gran estampido vino de mi cuarto.

Corrí arriba. Mi cuarto fue destruido. Entonces, se cerró y trabo la puerta detrás de mí. Una figura grande salió de detrás de mi televisión. Y luego, sacó un palo largo con una punta muy afilada. Me cortó, pero lo esquivé.

Entonces me acordé del cuchillo en mi mano. Lo corté. Se convirtió en una pila de serpientes.

Las serpientes se alejaron. Escuché un grito de abajo. “¡Ven abajo!” gritó alguien. Resultó que yo era un sonámbulo.

A Ghost Summoned by a Brother and Sister

by Aiden Spence, age 8

May and Nail are brother and sister. They are in the Halloween store shopping for costumes. May wants to be a dog. Nail wants to be a character from Toy Story, but he can’t decide which one. Nail picks up an old dusty candle. May has a lighter and helps light the candle. They find a whole bunch of candles— five more—and they set them in a circle. They summoned a ghost! It looked like a fire, but it wasn’t—there was a big cloud of white smoke with a black shadow inside. But only the brother Nail could see it. Then he was never seen again.

The End.

Un fantasma convocado por un hermano y una hermana por Aiden Spence, 8 años

May y Nail son hermano y hermana. Están en la tienda de Halloween comprando disfraces. May quiere ser un perro. Nail quiere ser un personaje de Toy Story pero no puede decidir cuál. Nail recoge una vieja vela polvorienta, May tiene un encendedor y ayuda a encender la vela. Encuentran un montón de velas—cinco más—y las ponen en círculo. ¡Convocaron a un fantasma!

Parecía un fuego, pero no lo era—había una gran nube de humo blanco con una sombra negra en el interior. Pero solo el hermano Nail podía verlo.

The Bad Luck

Part 1.

One night this guy was night strolling. He saw this black cat in the woods but he didn’t know it was a black cat, he thought it was a squirrel.

Then he went to the black cat. Then he stopped and looked at it. The black cat saw him. He had bad luck for 70 years. The next day he woke up, he fell. Then the next day he fell again. He started to think he had bad luck only in the morning but he was wrong.

Part 2.

At night he went for a night stroll again. He went to the cliff. He sat down. Then his bad luck came and he fell to his death. He had bad luck for 70 years. The cliff was 70 feet tall. He didn’t survive.

Part 3.

Then someone found him in the road. He buried him and gave the black cat to the dead man.

La mala suerte

Parte 1.

Una noche, este tipo estaba paseando por la noche. Vio a este gato negro en el bosque pero no sabía que era un gato negro, pensó que era una ardilla.

Luego fue hacia el gato negro. Luego se detuvo y lo miró. El gato negro lo vio. Tuvo mala suerte durante 70 años. Al día siguiente se despertó, se cayó. Luego, al día siguiente, volvió a caer. Empezó a pensar que tenía mala suerte solo por la mañana, pero estaba equivocado.

Parte 2.

Por la noche volvió a dar un paseo nocturno. Fue al acantilado. Él se sentó.

Entonces llegó su mala suerte y se cayó a su muerte. Tuvo mala suerte durante 70 años. El acantilado tenía 70 pies de altura. No sobrevivió.

Parte 3.

Entonces alguien lo encontró en la carretera. Lo enterró y le dio el gato negro al muerto.

Thinking about the Botanical Garden

I like the chrysanthemums.

I like the daisies.

I like the sunflowers.

I like the violets.

The chrysanthemums were yellow.

The daisies were white with brown in the inside.

The sunflowers were very very very tall.

It was windy so the violets swayed.

We went to the cafe. We had treats and coffee.

The coffee was disgusting!

It was very very fun!

It smells good.

Me gustan los crisantemos.

Me gustan las margaritas.

Me gustan los girasoles.

Me gustan las violetas.

Los crisantemos eran amarillos.

Las margaritas eran blancas con marrón dentro.

Los girasoles eran muy muy muy altos.

Hacía viento y las violetas se balanceaban.

Fuimos al café. Pedimos dulces y café. ¡El café daba asco! ¡Fue muy muy divertido!

Huele bien.

The Messages

Time passed fast. I saw the clock go fast. It was def not broken but also not right. I couldn’t sleep. I took out my phone and started watching a movie on Netflix. I put the volume a little too loud.

I heard my door open. It was my mother.

“Sweetie please go to sleep, it’s midnight.” she told me, her being half asleep.

“Yea, yea, whatever.” I said, slowly putting my phone away.

“Alright, thank you dear.” she said, leaving my room.

I sighed, and looked out the window. I silently whispered to myself.

“I miss the old view.” I turned off my lamp and closed my eyes. Of course I wasn’t tired but . . .

“Sweetie! Wake up, breakfast is ready!” my mother shouted.

“Huh?” I was confused, I remember dreaming about . . .

I was in bed watching a movie.

“Honey! Get out of the house! The house is on fire!!” My mom yelled, running to my room. She dragged me out of the house. My father was outside calling the police. We all watched the house burn.

“Wait, what?”

“Mom? Dad? Where are we going now?”

“We don’t know honey,” my father said.

“We will find something soon.” my mother added.

“Promise?”

“I promise . . . ”

“Sweetie your food is getting cold!!”

“Oh—uhm . . . Coming mom!” I went downstairs, went to the kitchen and sat down.

“How was your sleep?” I looked at her and then looked away and ignored her. I took out my phone and started watching a movie on Netflix.

“Had a bad night?”

“You can say that.” I told her, looking away.

“Why so down?”

“It’s just I miss our old home . . . before the fire.” I whispered, turning off my phone.

“What was that?”

“Nothing.”

I ate my breakfast.

“Uhm, I’m done.” I said, when I finished eating. I went back upstairs. I opened the door to my room.

“Ah!” I saw something and I saw a note in my pillow. The figure was trying to take it. The figure disappeared. I entered my room. I took the note and read it. It said, Leave this house . . . I thought of it all day.

When it was the next day I was cold and my clothes were changed into a white dress. There was blood. My mother walked in the room.

“Honey . . . are you alright? Yesterday night, I saw you where the abandoned church is and someone tall, pale, and scary was grabbing you.

When the sun came out, it disappeared.”

“I—I don’t remember that?!”

Los mensajes

El tiempo pasó rápido. Vi que el reloj se acelera. Definitivamente no estaba roto, pero tampoco estaba correcto. No pude dormir. Saqué mi teléfono y comencé a ver una película en Netflix. Puse el volumen un poco demasiado alto. Escuché que alguien abrió mi puerta. Fue mi madre.

“Cariño, por favor, vete a dormir, es medianoche,” me dijo, medio dormida.

“Sí, sí, lo que sea,” Dije, guardando mi teléfono lentamente.

“Está bien, gracias querida,” dijo, saliendo de mi cuarto. Suspiré y miré por la ventana. Susurré a mí mismo.

“Extraño la vista anterior.” Apagué la lámpara y cerré los ojos. Por supuesto que no estaba cansado, pero . . .

“¡Cariño! ¡Despierta, el desayuno está listo! “ gritó mi madre.

“¿Eh?” Estuve confundido, recordando que había soñado . . .

Estaba en la cama viendo una película.

“¡Cariño! ¡Sal de la casa! ¡La casa está en llamas!” Mi mamá gritó, corriendo a mi cuarto. Ella me arrastró fuera de la casa. Mi padre estaba afuera llamando a la policía. Todos vimos la casa en fuego.

“¿Espera, que?”

“¿Mamá? ¿Papa? ¿A dónde vamos ahora?”

“No lo sabemos cariño,” dijo mi padre.

“Encontraremos algo pronto.” añadió mi madre.

“¿Me lo prometa?”

“Lo prometo . . . ”

“¡Cariño, tu comida se está enfriando!”

“Oh . . . uhm . . . ¡Ya vengo mamá! “ Bajé las escaleras, fui a la cocina y me senté.

“¿Como dormiste?” La miré y luego la ignoré. Saqué mi teléfono y comencé a ver una película en Netflix.

“¿Tuviste una mala noche?”

“Puedes decir eso.” Le dije, mirando a otro lado.

“¿Por qué estás tan deprimido?”

“Es solo que extraño nuestra última casa . . . antes del fuego.” Susurré, apagando mi teléfono.

“¿Qué fue eso?”

“Nada.”

Comí mi desayuno.

“Uhm, he terminado,” dije, cuando terminé de comer. Volví arriba.

Abrí la puerta de mi cuarto.

“¡Ah!” Vi algo y vi una nota en mi almohada. Una figura estaba tratando de tomarlo. La figura desapareció. Entré a mi cuarto. Tomé la nota y la leí. Decía: Sal de esta casa. Todo el día pensé en la nota.

Cuando llegó el día siguiente, tenía frío y mi ropa cambió a un vestido blanco. Había sangre. Mi madre entró al cuarto.

“¡Cariño!.. ¿Estás bien? Ayer por la noche, vi dónde está la iglesia abandonada y alguien alto, pálido, y aterrador te estaba agarrando. Cuando salió el sol, desapareció.”

“¡¿No me acuerdo de eso?!” Yo dije.

PLAY: INTRO VACKS’S OWN VILLAGE 5-3-2018 Vacks turned nine and is going out into the wild. His dad is with him, teaching him some basic things like how to build a house. His dad also left a guide if he needed help. Vacks needed to build a house for him but it wasn’t going too well.

The Guide/Zach: This house doesn’t even have back walls! How am I supposed to live in it???

Vacks: Well? What else does it need?

Zach: Hmm, let’s see . . . A CHAIR . . . hmm, maybe a TABLE! Oh, and those back walls.

Vacks builds those things.

Zach: [sighs] I guess I’ll move in now.

It becomes night time.

Zach: Vacks!

Vacks: What now?

Zach: You forgot lights!

Vacks: You should have said for me to make them . . . Also, why are you awake?

You can go to sleep!

Zach: Whatever.

ABOUT 3 YEARS LATER MONOLOGUE: “Alright, here we go. My name is Vacks Cobalt. When I was nine, I moved out into the forest and had a rough time. But then I met my best friend, Princess 12

Katrina. We built the biggest kingdom and then we saved some travelers who stayed and helped us. We had the biggest army and beat the beast of this world named Moon Lord. A big beast. And now it’s the present and we’re having a great time.”

Actual Play Narrator: At the moment, Vacks and Katrina are trying to get some ore . . . Let’s see what they’re talking about.

VACKS: How deep have we gone?

KATRINA: Are Links and Catmax supposed to be helping us?

Narrator: They have been hearing loud clanging ahead.

VACKS: What’s that?

They rush ahead.

VACKS: Links? Catmax?

KATRINA: Ahh, that’s why we haven’t found any ore—they got all of it!

LINKS: Yep! CATMAX: Every single piece!

VACKS: How did you get ahead of us?

CATMAX: You said at 6:00.

KATRINA: Oops I meant 7:00.

VACKS: How much ore did you get?

LINKS: 1,562 pieces!

KATRINA: Jeez!

I’m glad we got that cleared up. Well guys, we’ll be on our way.

Teleport Man

I awoke and did my same routine. I got out of bed, brushed my teeth, made myself breakfast, and started my walk to school. And then, there was this old lady and she was selling fruit. So I bought one for two dollars. After I bought it, I ate all of it, and I started thinking . . . “I wish I could go to Hawaii.” And then, just in a flash, I teleported to Hawaii. So in fear, I said, “I want my mom,” and I teleported straight to her work. I think to myself, Did this fruit give me superpowers? “I want to go to Mars.” Then, I teleport to Mars! It feels dizzy, and it happens in a flash. I smell a burning smell, and then I hold my breath because I was in space. Quickly, I thought—I want to go home! And I teleported home. I should become a superhero, I think. I started making a suit and I tried to come up with a name. Teleport Man! I turned on the news and I saw a bank robbing.

I said, “I wish I was at the bank.” I teleported to the bank, then I grabbed one of the bank robbers and then I teleported to the jail. I teleported back to the bank and grabbed 3 more!

When Homework Was Made

One night, Violet was awake and Violet’s parents were asleep. Violet knew her parents made a time machine. She goes to the basement and whispers, “Yes! The basement door is unlocked.” So, she went inside the basement and touched all the buttons. She got in and got teleported to when homework was made. Then the time machine teleported back to the basement and came back broken. Violet started to get scared that she wouldn’t be able to go back home, and all she wanted to do was to make homework stop. Well, luckily, she brought some tools but first she wanted to look around. Then she found the man who made homework and she said, “Hey you whatever your name is.”

“My name is Steve McPoop,” he said.

“Ok can you help me fly something?” she said.

“Ok,” he said, so they both went to go fix it and Violet got home safe.

Lorie’s mother told her lies her whole life. About how one day Lorie would wake up and her family would be gone. They were always to punish Lorie when she was bad because she loved her family, more than anything. Lorie stopped ever doing anything bad at age six. Lorie was a very good girl. And so the lies stopped. Lorie barely remembered them. The only thing she could remember was the sad, terrified feeling when they were told. She also remembered crying under her covers with the feeling that soon everything would be gone.

Her life. Lorie woke up one night. She felt sad and scared and empty, but she couldn’t remember the nightmare she’d had. Lorie looked at her watch. It read in glowing pink numbers 7:01. Lorie could get up. Lorie’s mom strictly wanted her to stay until seven, no earlier. It silently switched to 7:02.

Lorie got up out of bed and went downstairs to the kitchen. Dad was making eggs and french toast on the stove. Baby Rory sat in his high chair stuffing his hands in applesauce. “Lor!” Dad shouted, noticing her come in.

Dad called Lorie ‘Lor’ because Rory rhymed and Dad didn’t like rhyming. Lorie didn’t mind.

“Dad? Eggs? French toast?” Lorie’s mother asked, coming in. She grabbed Dad and pulled him over for a kiss. “Doesn’t match,” she said. That was true. Dad was a wilderness guy that got up early and ate berries, as it was all he could get. It wasn’t like Dad to randomly make eggs and French toast.

Gramps was like that.

“In honor of Gramps!” Lorie guessed.

“Nope! In honor of the camping trip we’re going to go on!” he said.

“What?” Lorie asked, excited.

“Wha-ha-ha?” Rory mumbled.

“What? Not now, Burt. You were supposed to tell them later,” Lorie’s mother told him.

“Oh Jane,” he said to her, giving her a hug.

The family had toast and eggs. Then they packed for the trip. Lorie brought her favorite basket for picking berries and her unicorn pajamas and her fuzzy bunny slippers and her stuffed uni-panda toy and her sketchbook and colored pencils. She put on her light purple t-shirt that had a tent on it and her jeans and she was ready . . . almost. “Dad! Where’re my pink socks?” she called.

“I don’t know, ask your mother!” he called back. Lorie groaned.

“Chances are Mother’s putting on makeup and won’t care,” Lorie hissed softly. Her mom was nice and all but she was strict and creative and cared too much about looks. “Mother? My pink socks?” Lorie asked, sticking her head in her mother’s room.

“Here, hon,” Mother said. A fuzzy pink ball that smelled like lavender 25

foot soap hit her in the face. Lorie observed the rolled up socks at her feet.

They weren’t hers . . . Mother’s. But they were socks. And Lorie did like big socks . . .

Lorie stuffed them on. They were covered in long pink hairs and bagged up on her legs with an uncomfortable feeling. Also, Lorie’s socks did not reek strongly of over-bred lilac flowers. Lorie shrugged. She knew very well that no socks of Lorie’s were to be found. Lorie shuffled in her dark purple, light-up sneakers that glowed red sparkles with pink and blue star-shaped lights. “Ready!” Lorie announced, skipping down the stairs, her shoes flashing and being awesome.

“We are too,” said Dad. He was grinning and holding Baby Rory.

Mother stood beside him in high heels and bright red lipstick, as always. She wore a floppy banana yellow sun hat with stylish jeans and a blue-violet t-shirt on. Even Baby Rory was dressed up with a baby blue diaper and night sky blue baby-sized shirt. And bags were piled almost as high as Dad in front of the door. Lorie tossed hers on the leaning tower of bags and it collapsed with a loud clatter.

“Lorie!” Mother scolded.

“It’s alright. It was an accident,” Dad said. “We’re ready now,” he repeated, grinning wider. Suddenly a foul-smelling odor rose from Dad. It smelled like urine and poop with garbage piled to the moon. And it rose from Dad’s arms, getting grosser and stronger by the second. What was Dad doing?

“It’s Rory,” Dad sighed.

“Blaming it on the baby?” Mother said sharply.

“He needs a change!” said Dad. They understood. Once Dad had fixed Rory up with another baby blue diaper, this one smelling clean, the family was finally ready. Lorie packed the bags into the car with Dad and then sat down next to Baby Rory. Lorie’s family finally arrived after a long torture of an hour. Even Mother helped unpack as the day grew longer. Dad set up the tent and Lorie talked to Mother and Baby Rory. Lorie talked about berries and stargazing and roasting marshmallows under the moon. Finally Dad had set up the tent and everyone was glad. It had been a long day. Dad and Mother curled up together under a warm cover and went to sleep. Baby Rory snuggled between them and Lorie smiled as she slept in her golden-colored sleeping bag. When Lorie woke up in the morning, warm sunshine beat on her face. She sat up rubbing her eyes. Mother, Dad, and Baby Rory were not there.

Lorie realized she hadn’t put on her pj’s so she didn’t bother changing. She got out of the tent and looked around. Dad and Mother were running around shouting, “Rory!”

“What happened?” Lorie asked, curious.

“We can’t find Rory,” cried Mother, rushing over. Her lipstick was smudged and she looked very tired. They all ran all over looking for him. Soon, it got dark. They would look again in the morning. Everyone was tired. Lorie got up early and found Mother crying.

“Mother?” she asked, touching her back.

“Burt is gone!” she wailed.

It took Lorie a moment to realize what Mother was saying. “Dad is gone?” Lorie asked. Mother nodded. Her face was red and wet. Looking for Rory. Other things? Lorie didn’t know. All day was spent looking for Rory and Dad. No luck. They had disappeared without a trace. No footprints or paths.

No caught hair or scraps of clothes. Not even . . . although Lorie didn’t want to imagine it, not even bones or flesh or blood. Nothing. That night Lorie and Mother cuddled each other, both afraid of who would disappear next and if anyone would ever be found.

She stayed up later. Afraid. Panicked. Depressed. Nervous. Forgetful, somehow. A dream raged through her skull. Mother was spitting mad and telling her awful lies. It made young Lorie crumple. Her mom was telling her that one day she’d wake up and her entire family would be gone. Oh no! Lorie thought. She jolted awake. She felt for her mother. No! She thought. Lorie stuck her head outside. The air was cold and crisp. “Stop it! Stop this joke! I hate it! I hate it so much! Stop, just STOP!” Lorie roared into the night. No reply.

She pushed herself up and ran through the forest. Slugs slimed her feet and rocks and twigs stabbed her. But she kept going.

As she ran she howled and ranted wildly. She shrieked and screamed and snarled. She yelled and sobbed and wailed and threatened her family as she ran. But they didn’t come back.

“No!” she finally shouted into the darkness, stopping short and bending into her knees. She cried and cried. There was no one there. “Just stop!” she gasped into the night. She choked on her own breath. Her cheeks were wet and red. She placed her dusty palms on her tear-soaked face. She looked at the forest around her. Shoot. She thought. She realized that the little flashlight she always kept in her pocket had fallen out. Her legs ached. Then a low rumble. “Ha, ha, ha,” it said, “you’re mine now.”

Uno mismo

Y entonces las mentiras acabaron. Lorie casi no se acordaba de ellas. La única cosa de la que pudo acordado era el sentimiento triste, horrorizado que tuvo cuando le contaban mentiras. También se acordó de llorar debajo de las mantas sintiendo que pronto todo se iría. Su vida. Lorie se despertó una noche. Ella se sintió triste y asustada y vacía, pero no podía acordar la pesadilla que había tenido. Lorie miró a su reloj. Decía en números rosas brillantes 7:01. Lorie podía levantarse. La madre de Lorie era muy estricta y quería que se quedara hasta los siete, no antes. En silencio, cambió a las 7:02.

“¿Qué? Ahora no, Burt. Se suponía que debías decírselo más tarde,” dijo la madre de Lorie.

“Oh Jane,” él le dijo, dándole un abrazo.

La familia comió tostada y huevos. Luego empacaron para la excursión. “Aquí, tesoro,” dijo Madre. Una bola de peluche rosa que olía a jabón para pies de lavanda le llegó a la cara. Lorie miró los calcetines enrollados a sus pies. No eran suyos…eran de Madre. Pero eran calcetines. Y a Lorie le gustaban los calcetines grandes…

Lorie se los puso. Estaban cubiertos de pelos largos y rosas y le quedaban grandes en las piernas de manera incomoda. Además, los calcetines de Lorie apestaban a flores de lila incontenible. Lorie se encogió de hombros. Sabía muy bien que no se encontraría ningún calcetín de Lorie. Lorie arrastró los pies con sus calcetines violetas oscuros, sus zapatillas de luces que brillaban con reflejos rojos con luces rosas y azules de forma de estrella. “¡Lista!” anunció Lorie, bajando las escaleras a saltos, sus zapatos parpadeando y siendo increíbles.

“Nosotros también,” dijo Papá. Estaba sonriendo y sosteniendo al Bebé Rory. Madre estaba cerca de él con sus tacones altos y el pintalabios rojo fuerte, como siempre. “¡Necesita un cambio!” dijo Papá. Entendieron. Una vez que Papá puso Rory en otro pañal azul claro, este oliendo bien, la familia finalmente estaba lista. Lorie empacó las bolsas en el carro con Papá y luego se sentó cerca de Bebé Rory. La familia de Lorie llegó finalmente después de una hora larguísima de tortura. Incluso Madre ayudó a deshacer las maletas a lo largo del día. Papá preparó la tienda de campaña y Lorie habló con Madre y el Bebé Rory. Buscarían otra vez por la mañana. Todos estaban tan cansados. Lorie se levantó pronto y encontró a Madre llorando.

“Madre” preguntó, tocándole la espalda.

“¡Burt no está!” lloró.

Lorie tardó un momento en realizar lo que estaba diciendo Madre. “¿Papá no está?” Lorie preguntó. Madre asintió. Su cara estaba roja y mojada.

Buscando a Rory. ¿Algo más? Lorie no sabía. Pasaron todo el día buscando a Rory y Papá. No hubo suerte. Habían desparecido sin dejar rastro. No había huellas o senderos. No había pelos atrapados o restos de ropa. Tampoco… aunque Lorie no quería imaginárselo, había huesos o carne o sangre. Nada.

Esa noche Lorie y Madre se acurrucaron juntas, las dos con miedo de quien desparecería a continuación y de si alguna vez se encontraría a alguien.

Mientras corría aulló y se quejó de manera salvaje. Chilló y gritó y gruñó. Gritó y sollozó y aulló y amenazó a su familia mientras corría. Pero no volvieron.

“¡No!” finalmente gritó en la oscuridad, frenando a seco y doblándose encima de sus rodillas. Lloró y lloró. No había nadie allí. “¡Sólo para!” dijo con un grito ahogado en la noche. Se ahogó en su proprio respiro. Sus mejillas estaban mojadas y rojas. Puso sus palmas polvorientas en su rostro empapado de lagrimas. Miró al bosque a su alrededor. Ay, no. Pensó. Finally, he got the rocket and left for Earth. He gladly went home with his best friend, Pumpkin.

When they checked they did not find anything at first, but then they heard something coming from halls. They checked the halls and saw their friend was dead laying there on the floor. The light turned on and off, so the other was also found dead there. Then after he saw something that was never found before. He saw a little girl that said “come and play with me”, and some of her music that he heard is “la la la”. Then she replayed the scene of when their friends died and he saw that his friends were trying to kill him. So from that day whoever tried to kill him, he had his little “friend” to tell him.

One night there was a very old, dark, and haunted house. The person that lived there was PENNYWISE, back from the dead and came to look for his next target. Last time he ate Donald Trump.

So Pennywise went to the town and was on a roof where he ate DONALD DUCK, no I mean donald trumpet no no no I mean DONALD TRUMP hehehe let’s act like I didn’t say the name ok but back to Pennywise. Pennywise saw this clown that reminded him from a long time ago . . . and then he remembered that it was his BEST BEST BEST BEST FRIEND when he was alive and a human. So then he tried to scare his best best best best friend so he jumped and said . . . “JACK.”

So JACK stood there and slowly turned around and said “HOW DO YOU KNOW MY NA-.”

And Jack stared at Pennywise and Jack said “TEDDY.” They hugged each other and then Pennywise took Jack to his house. And Pennywise told him how he became PENNYWISE.

Jack remembered “OH Pennywise I remember that name when we were younger and scared those people.”

Pennywise said “ Yup and btw why are you dressed like a clown?”

Teddy said “Well the same happened to me my name is now Terrifying Reaper.”

So Pennywise spoke “oh ok well I am a bit hungry want to get food.” Teddy . . .

One Day in a Horrible Ocean

One day, Felix was driving a bus. He was half fish, half person. His fish side was a flying fish—a smooth body and wings so he can fly. The human half looked like Ethan—he has brown hair, shoes, jacket, socks, dinosaur mask, clothes, and shoes. Then, a komodo dragon stopped the bus. He’s a medium sized lizard who doesn’t usually fly, but in this story, he flies. He has dragon wings.

He flies to the bus and puts one of his feet up—that stops the bus. The dragon tries to eat Felix’s fish side. The komodo dragon breathes fire on the bus. He destroys the bus and Felix tries to fly away. But the dragon tries to bite him as he’s flying away. And then the komodo dragon dives under water and chases Felix. The dragon is chasing Felix underwater but Felix drives away in a fish car.

The komodo dragon chases him in their komodo dragon car. They chase each other and then they get tired and the komodo dragon falls asleep.

He started to hear noises saying “I see ya” and “I’m coming.” He started to remember he encountered a ghost and he defeated it so now he is wondering if it survived and is back for revenge. The gate shut. He heard footsteps with light coming from both tunnels. He ran toward the gate and bang, pulled but nothing worked. He yelled and yelled thinking a guard was there. “Hello? Is someone, anyone there…?” no answer. He thought to go through the tunnels but when he knew the ghost planned that. It had been weeks, he gave up. Then he noticed that he was not alone. Figures of people came near him. He started panicking. He started noticing that they were shadows! They came through walls, floors. It grabbed his leg, he started moving, trying to escape. He was thinking to himself this is it, this is the end but as soon as he was about to be pulled down, he woke up. He felt sooo relieved it was a dream. Then he saw a figure of his mom come, then pop . . .

Flash forward Nik and his girlfriend were fighting. Nik’s girlfriend was named Jenny. Girlfriend slapped Nik, then Nik started to cry like a baby.

After that Nik threw himself on the roof, he wanted to die. So later on Amanda came and helped Nik, then Nik fell in love with Amanda. So Nik said, “Would you be my girlfriend or want to marry me yes or no” said Nik. Then Amanda said, “Yes I will”. Then they lived happily ever after. THE END to be continued.

Nik and Amanda never got into a fight they lived happy that they got married and Nik’s ex girlfriend said, “Oh Nik, I missed you so much.” Jenny wanted to make Amanda jealous then Jenny flipped her shiny hair. Amanda didn’t care but Nik looked at Amanda and kissed Amanda on the mouth then Jenny got so jealous that she slapped Amanda’s face then Amanda started crying.

“Amanda is a pretty girl,” said Nik. Amanda smiles back to Nik. Chapter Two Then Amanda was happy, so she wanted something to eat. Then Jenny whispered to Amanda, “I will kill you Amanda but one day then Nik will be mine. I love him because he is rich.” said Jenny. After that Amanda told Nik what Jenny said. “She will kill me one day, Jenny said that to me.” The next day, Nik slapped Jenny so hard that Jenny and Amanda remembered they were friends when they were 5 years old. They both hug and say to each other “Sorry!” THE END. After that they both got food, even Nik. They ate ice cream at the ice cream shop. It tasted so good that they lived happily ever after.

The Doll

Chapter 1. Don’t Open Your Eyes There is a doll that comes every night if you hear someone tapping on your window. Don’t open your eyes if you hear it anymore. Still don’t open your eyes, it is a trick she will move closer and closer. When she’s next to you, you better run because she is going to kill you.

Another thing about the doll is that she is fast, can feel if you are scared, uncomfortable, and she comes at 3:00 and leaves at 4:00 if you don’t open your eyes because she knows that you will not open your eyes, but if you open your eyes she will come at 3:00 and leave at a longer time like 6:00. She hates the super bright things she talks to make you open your eyes so don’t open your eyes.

Chapter 2. About the doll The doll’s name is Mary. Mary was a little girl she was happy, but then her father died in a car crash. She cried then 6 years later, she is now 12, she went to help her mom but she was dead on the floor. Mary cried next to her mom then she went to sleep and is now a ghost. Then 20 years later a man found a doll. Mary went inside of the doll. The doll didn’t let her get out. She yell, “help me” but no one help her. She asked herself, What is happening? What will happen to me?

She was scared now. Then she didn’t feel like herself. She felt mean, a boss, powerful. Then her hair turned red. She could see she was small. She moved.

She saw many cool things.

Chapter 3 The Doll/The New Me Mary started to go to peoples’ houses. She watched the kids sleep. The next day she found something next to her. It was a small knife. She got the knife and went to someone’s house, it was nighttime. She saw the kids were awake.

She puts them to sleep. Then she went to another person’s house. Then she started to attack the people who were awake. Then it was morning, she hid behind the bushes. Happily then a few hours later it was nighttime again she got out of the bushes and entered someone’s house. She saw no one was awake so she left the house and went to another house. This time she saw people awake so made them go to sleep and stayed there for a few hours.

Then she left happily singing.

Capítulo 1. No abras los ojos Hay una muñeca que viene todas las noches si escuchas a alguien golpeando tu ventana. No abras los ojos si lo escuchas más. Aún no abras los ojos, es un truco que ella se acercará cada vez más. Cuando ella esté a tu lado, será mejor que corras porque te va a matar.

Otra cosa de la muñeca es que es rápida, puede sentir si estás asustada, incómoda, y viene a las 3:00 y se va a las 4:00 si no abres los ojos porque sabe que no vas a abrir los ojos, pero si abres los ojos ella vendrá a las 3:00 y se irá en un tiempo más largo como las 6:00. Odia las cosas súper brillantes de las que habla para hacerte abrir los ojos, así que no abras los ojos.

Capítulo 2. Sobre la muñeca El nombre de la muñeca es Mary. Mary era una niña pequeña muy feliz, pero su padre murió en un accidente automovilístico. Luego lloró 6 años después, ahora tiene 12 años, fue a ayudar a su mamá pero estaba muerta en el suelo.

Mary lloró junto a su mamá, luego se fue a dormir y ahora es un fantasma.

He saw a black figure. It moved one step toward Jack. Then, Jack screamed. Before he could scream again, the black figure grabbed him. No one would see him again.

One evening, Rodrick and his friends went straight to the Halloween costume store. They all decided to be glowing, luminescent ghosts. But when they tried grabbing the costume, a ghost appeared magically out of nowhere! The ghost said, “If you dare pick my costume, you will be granted bad luck for your WHOLE, and I mean it, WHOLE life.” After that secret message, Rodrick and his friends were so traumatized and terrified that they decided; 1) To NEVER head back to the Halloween costume store, and 2) To never celebrate Halloween EVER AGAIN.

Devious Licks

A note from the author: The “devious licks” challenge was a trend that encouraged students to record themselves stealing or vandalizing school property, then posting the video online.

So earlier today I had some mysterious school lunch: chicken nuggets and corn that tasted differently than ever before. Stomach bubbles rumbled. I drank some chocolate milk and then noticed that Julianna was in the bathroom.

In the bathroom, Julianna did a devious lick on the toilet. All the water splashed out. A fire drill alarm came on. The light was off in the bathroom, then Julianna ran out. She was disappearing and reappearing. Julianna was flickering, then screams, then disappears. She began to haunt the school. She rumbled the school like an earthquake. She kept screaming, and the people inside covered their ears. They couldn’t do anything, all the lights were off. A spotlight seemed to glow on her ghost, a body bent forward, gazing through her long black hair which changed from her blue. The students couldn’t get out. All the electricity went out. There was nothing. All the people had disappeared from existence.

All the people teleported to Squid Games. And I’m teleported too. The final game was Red Light, Green Light. And the doll spoke in Japanese. This meant everybody’s language changed.

Red robots.

Aliens were armed with Nerf guns.

They didn’t know I had my Nerf gun and I was protecting Grandpa with the Nerf guns and we woke up to see the nurse.

We woke up and we went to the Willy Wonka Factory and the Oompa-Loompas were singing their song. Willy Wonka came out. He turned into Julianna. His face turned into Julianna and his eyes changed red. He said, “Welcome to my world! We’re just getting started!” in an evil voice. Then he pulled out his gun, the ray gun. He was the quiet kid in class.

The Oompa-Loompas turned evil. They made the song, “Oompa-Loompas will eat you!” and then they laughed. I heard somebody fart and I saw pills on the floor. But we didn’t know that the person who farted was a spy, and his pills could get us back to the real world. Only him and Julianna could get us back to the real world. Julianna came out of Willy Wonka. She picked up the pill and fed it to the spy. She forcefully shoved it in his mouth. The spy was also a quiet kid, he had a ray gun down his pants. The gun dropped on the floor when he 53

disappeared. Then everybody was gasping, surprised, because we thought he died! We saw the ray gun so we knew he was a part of it.

Everyone grabbed the pills, but Julianna snatched the bottle. But one pill dropped and I wanted to give it to Grandpa.

He was about to die because he had cancer. I wanted to get him alone where no one would see. So I said I didn’t feel so good. Ghost Julianna, evil Willy Wonka, and the Oompa-Loompas let us go to the bathroom.

Grandpa said, “No, you should take the pill,” but I just put it in his mouth. I was crying. Then I saw him squirming on the floor and his face turned purple. He stopped breathing. Then he disappeared.

I was crying in the bathroom. Then I walked out of the bathroom sad.

Everybody was eating Willy Wonka’s chocolate and I got one with the golden ticket. “Lucky you, kid,” Willy Wonka said. He put me in the room with the pills!

I knew the pills would send me back to the real world. I had to get these pills back to my friends. I took the jar. Julianna opened the door and came into the room. I was grabbing as much pills as I could off the shelves.

The pills said, “Do Not Touch, for spies only” so I knew they would help!

Then I hid from Julianna and as sneaky as possible, I snuck out the door. I stuffed every pill in the bag and put it in my shirt. I fed it to people one by one, and little by little people kept disappearing. I fed it to the last person, my mom. She said, “No! Jason!” and then she disappeared. And then I put it in my mouth but it didn’t work. So I put two whole things in my mouth and then I fell down.

And then I teleported to my chair at the dinner table and my mom was serving food. Everything was back to normal. Julianna was walking toward my house, flickering, and then disappeared. She said, whispering, “See you next Halloween.”

Devious Licks

Así que esta mañana tomé un almuerzo misterioso en la escuela: unos nuggets de pollo y maíz que sabían diferente respecto a antes. Las burbujas del estómago murmullaron. Bebí leche de chocolate y luego me di cuenta que Julianna estaba en el baño.

En el baño, Julianna hizo un devious lick al wáter. Toda el agua salió salpicando.

Una alarma de incendio se enciende. Una luz se apagó en el baño, y Julianna salió corriendo. Desapareció y apareció de nuevo. Julianna parpadea, luego grita, luego desaparece. Empezó a perseguir la escuela. Sacudió la escuela como un terremoto. Continuó a gritar, y la gente dentro cubrió sus orejas. No podían hacer nada, todas las luces estaban apagadas. Nos despertamos y fuimos a la Factoría de Willy Wonka y los Oompa-Loompas estaban cantando su canción. Willy Wonka salió. Se convirtió en Julianna.

Su cara se transformó en Julianna y sus ojos cambiaron al color rojo. Dijo, “¡Bienvenido a mi mundo! ¡Sólo estamos empezando!” en una voz malvada.

Luego sacó su pistola, pistola de rayos. Era el niño tranquilo de la clase.

Los Oompa-Loompas se transformaron en malvados. Crearon una canción, “¡Los Oompa-Loompas te comerán!” y entonces rieron. Yo oí a alguien echarse un pedo y vi pastillas en el suelo. Pero no sabíamos que la persona que se había echado un pedo era un espía, y sus pastillas podían regresarnos a nuestro mundo real. Sólo él y Julianna podían regresarnos al mundo real.

Julianna salió de Willy Wonka. Agarró la pastilla y se la dio al espía. Con fuerza le metió la pastilla en su boca. El espía también era un niño tranquilo, tenía una pistola de rayos en sus pantalones. La pistola cayó al suelo cuando él desapareció. Entonces todos se quedaron boquiabiertos, sorprendidos, ¡porque todos pensamos que estaba muerto! Vimos a la pistola de rayos entonces supimos que formaba parte de eso.

Todos agarraron las pastillas, pero Julianna arrebató la botella. Pero una pastilla cayó y yo quise dársela al Abuelo.

Estaba a punto de morir porque tenía cáncer. Yo quise quedarme solo con él donde nadie podría vernos. Así que dije que no me sentía muy bien.

El fantasma Julianna, el malvado Willy Wonka, y los Oompa Loompas nos dejaron ir al baño.

Mi abuelo dijo, “No, tú debes tomar la pastilla,” pero se la puse en su boca de todas maneras. Yo estaba llorando. Luego lo vi retorciéndose en el suelo y su rostro se puso violeta. Dejó de respirar. Entonces desapareció.

Yo estaba llorando en el baño. Luego salí del baño triste. Todos estaban comiendo el chocolate de Willy Wonka y yo recibí uno con un boleto de oro.

It is the middle of middle school and my teacher is rambling about the new kid. The teacher asks where he’s from and he says it’s better to never know. The teacher calls his parents, no answer. That night the teacher goes to his home and he is not there the next day. Two weeks later, he invites my friend and some other kids to his home and on the next day I start to get suspicious of him. I ask if I can come. “Yes, the more the merrier,” he says. Next thing I see is a creepy room with a TV and red walls. Next, the TV shows him and all the missing people that yell, “JOIN US!”

Lily was not a big fan of anything scary or hideous, especially ghosts. But, she definitely loved watching TV. One day, after one long dreadful school day, Lily slumped on the gray leather couch in her living room. She reached for the remote, too worn-out to stand up with her sore legs after walking from classroom to classroom. After reaching for the remote and opening up the TV, the light of the 65-inch TV bloomed and Lily was just in time for her favorite show, Fashion Fran. Lily suddenly sat up for a good laugh and then all of a sudden the TV blacked out like a turtle fitting its head into its shell but only faster. Lily paused because the TV had never reacted like this before. “Wait, what?!” Lily said, concerned for the TV. Then, right after her concern for the TV, it suddenly turned on with another bloom of light but brighter than before and there it happened, the TV sucked Lily in head first into the bright screen.

It all happened in a blink of an eye and Lily plummeted down to a mysterious surface that was pitch black. Lily tugged on her shirt tightly, trembling in cold sweat. Goosebumps were filling Lily’s whole body. Then Lily swallowed hard, sucked up all the oxygen she could and screamed in a trembling voice, “IS ANYONE THERE?!” Nobody answered but a strong wind flew past Lily in a SWOOSH! Lily jumped back in terror, teeth chattering and legs getting weaker ...

I heard weird noises. I heard people screaming. It was like a girl crying. I think they were crying because they got really in trouble by their dad.

And they did not know what to do so they just cried. I went to go check but I heard something and I ran away.

But I went again but I saw a shadow and I ran away again so I just thought it was a ghost and I never played that game again.

I’m lost in the dark, scary words. It’s freezing out here and my phone is dead, so I can’t call anyone. I lost my friends while trick-or-treating. I’m all alone . . .

As soon as I start walking, trying to find my way out, I start to notice the trees getting bigger, making me claustrophobic. The path starts getting smaller and smaller with every step I take.

I hear the bell from church start to ring. My heart sinks when I realize it is already midnight. My mom said I was supposed to be home by 11:30. I start to walk faster because I feel like I’m being stared at. Suddenly, I hear a loud scream, so I start running and never look back. I’m so tired. I’m starting to lose my vision due to the crazy fog. I see a dark, tall shadow creeping closer and closer. “Sage.” I hear my friend call out my name behind me. I tell her what I saw. She looks at me like I am crazy. Soon after, she says, “What do you mean?

I don’t see anyone there.” I turn around and find nothing but a broken stick covered with leaves.

Jarrels the Old Man

Jarrels the grumpiest of them all, the oldest of the oldest was really tired of his oldness so he decided to walk around and bother some kids, maybe even scare them. That seemed to make him happy and excited. As he was walking through the woods, he found an orphanage. He proceeded to walk to it and saw kids. He pulled out his cane and a little microphone with a weird small speaker.

“HEY KIDS WHERE YOUR PARENTS AT?!” he yelled with his grumpy voice. The 50 kids sitting inside their classroom were really upset and most were mad. They came out of their classrooms and went to Jarrels.

Jarrels started examining each kid and went up to one, “You, I don’t blame your parents, I mean I would leave you too,” he said. The kid ran off crying and Jarrels . . .

Jarrels, el más gruñón de todos, el más viejo de los viejos estaba muy cansado de su vejez así que decidió pasear y molestar a algunos niños, quizás incluso asustarlos. Sacó su caña y un pequeño micrófono con un pequeño altavoz extraño.

“¿¡VAMOS NIÑOS DÓNDE ESTÁN VUESTROS PADRES?!“ grito con su voz gruñona. Los 50 niños sentados dentro de la clase estaban muy disgustados y muchos estaban enfadados. Salieron de sus clases y fueron hacia Jarrels. Jarrels empezó a examinar a cada niño y se acercó a uno, “Tú, no culpo a tus padres, quiero decir que yo también te dejaría,” dijo. El niño salió corriendo y llorando y Jarrels…

Livina gets into mischief with her friends even if she is 10 years old. She and her friends like to call themselves “The PALs.” “P” for Penelope, “A” for Ashley, and “L” for Livina.

This time, Livina and her friends, Penelope and Ashley, got into trouble because they wrapped her neighbor’s tree in toilet paper. They ran as fast as they could.

NEIGHBOR: Hey! Stop there!

The neighbor wobbled after the PALs, waving his walking stick.

LIVINA: Sorry, but it was so much fun!

NEIGHBOR: Fun, yeah right. Get back here!

ASHLEY: Hey, where are we running to?

LIVINA: I don’t know.

PENELOPE: WHAT? LIVINA: Weeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllllllll, I’m getting kind of tired so maybe to your-huff-house?

NEIGHBOR: Hey! -huff- Stop! Please!

PENELOPE: No-huff-way! It’s too-puff-far to my-huffhouse!!!!!

ASHLEY: My-huff-house-huff!

LIVINA: La-huff-st-puff-step! Huff huff.

Finally, they reached Ashley’s house. The neighbor gave up long ago, but the girls didn’t know that.They went up to her room. Before they could do anything, somebody rang the doorbell. Ding-dong! Ashley’s mom opened the door, and waved to come in. Mrs. Danercheff stepped in.

MRS. DANERCHEFF: Is it okay to yell in this house?

ASHLEY’S MOM: Sure!

MRS. DANERCHEFF: Thanks. You might want to plug in your ears.

MRS. DANERCHEFF: LIVINA! ASHLEY: Y-yikes Livina. Your M-mom.

PENELOPE: Please tell me this isn’t happening.

LIVINA: gulp!

Livina slowly went down the stairs, scared of what was going to happen to her, taking one step every five seconds, with her friends watching in horror.

LIVINA: Y-yes?

MRS. DANERCHEFF: GET DOWN HERE NOW! LIVINA: Y-yes M-mom?

MRS. DANERCHEFF: What did you think you were doing?

Huh? The neighbor just called, and he said that you wrapped up his lovely lavender tree in toilet paper and took off to Ashley’s house! Really!? Toilet paper?!

Ooooh, you’re grounded missy. I know your game. Stay in your siblings’ room for a week. No contacting friends.

I have made a list of all the bad things that you have done! And most importantly, all of your privileges are CUT! I expect you to follow these rules.

Livina was in horror. She didn’t know what to say or to do. Everything burst out of her as she cried a great teardrop tidal wave.

LIVINA: M-o-o-o-o-o-m, I’m s-s-sorry! It’s not f-fair!

MRS. DANERCHEFF: Livina, I’m sorry too. But after all of the things you’ve done, I’m not going to take it back. I am going home. I had a long work day and I need rest. As a punishment, you are going to walk home.

And with that, she slammed the door and drove home.

Livina started to walk home very slowly. She was so angry at her mom for giving her so many punishments.

It took her 45 minutes to walk home. Running with her 72

friends had been easier. Finally she reached home.

MRS. DANERCHEFF: Actually, I’ve been talking with your dad and decided that you don’t need so many punishments. I actually liked it when you hid the dog and we couldn’t find her. You know that I don’t like dogs that much. So, you’re just grounded for the rest of the week. And that’s good. It’s Tuesday. Only four more days.

LIVINA: Thank you! Thank you! Thank you so much!

Livina hugged her mom.

MRS. DANERCHEFF: Good as new.

He looked again and to his horror, he saw a ghost-like figure in an alleyway. He tapped his friends to tell them, but when he looked again, it was gone.

“Yes,” said Jerry “I am—” A fly flies in his face. The voice grunts. Jerry chuckles, “ehem.”

“I am Jeff Lake Jr.,” said Jeff.

“Want to be friends?” said Jerry.

“Sure!”

Two years later—”Oooooooooh,” said Jerry, spookily, in a vent.

“No no, you’re doing it wrong,” said Jeff.

One night, in a house up on Mountain High, Charlies got up from his bed, waking with a sigh. He lived with his mom, but no dad. He missed his dad, so he was sad. He heard cracks and creaks so he went to his mom. But his mom wasn’t there, so he sounded the alarm! No one could hear him ’cause he was up on Mountain High. He was so sad, he was ready to die. He called the police, but they didn’t answer. There was no hope, so he put up a banner.

He waited and waited, but no one came. But suddenly, he heard someone scream in pain. He went to the village and he held in a scream as he saw his mom being kidnapped by someone mean.

Charlies followed him and found it was his dad! He was so surprised, he almost let out a gasp. His dad left, so he made a trap, and the trap was effective and captured his dad, and in the end, his dad was mad. But his mom was glad.

Montaña Alta

The Weirdest Car

I was walking home from a long day from school and I saw a car in the woods when I was passing by. For some reason, I wanted to see what’s inside. When I got closer, I thought it was just some random car. I wanted to see if it was open. It was somehow. I went to see and boom, I heard someone say, “Would you want to be a ghost or haunted by one?” I said ghost, duh. I still didn’t know who said that, and out of nowhere it felt like my life left my body. They said, “If you do not come back in an hour, you get stuck as a ghost.” It was 2:00 PM so I had one hour to play around and explore. I went to go see places. I went to the U.K., Asia, and Mexico. When I was eating a taco, I checked what time it was and it was already 2:55 PM!

I rushed all the way to the U.S., but it sadly was too late! When I got there it was 3:01 PM. I asked if I could do anything to be back to human. They said I can complete one thing to go back. I have to enter a cave to go and get a rare crystal.

When I got there, I realized that I was a ghost; what’s the bad thing that can happen? Then the guy said, you have to find it in a minute and if I don’t I will be stuck in a ghost body forever. The crystal was the most rare in the world so I knew I wasn’t going to get it but I will still try.

The cave was one of the biggest ones in the world. As I was rushing, it felt like it was a never-ending cave. Also, it was mad dark yo. So I couldn’t see anything. I also had to use my ghost powers to get it. The cave was full of miners and they were weirded out. They ran. I saw some miner had it so I grabbed it and got out with nine seconds to spare.

I was very happy the man said a deal is a deal, and I was back in the car as a human. I left and checked the time and it was 5:30 PM now. When I got home my mom was like, “Why weren’t you here for a long time?”

I said, “It’s a long story.”

El coche más raro

Caminaba a casa después de un largo día de escuela y vi un automóvil en el bosque cuando pasaba. Por alguna razón, quería ver qué estaba dentro.

Cuando me acerqué, pensé que se trataba de un coche cualquiera. Quería ver si estaba abierto. De alguna manera si estaba. Fui a ver y boom, escuché a alguien decir: “¿Quieres ser un fantasma o ser perseguido por uno?” Dije fantasma, duh. Todavía no sé quién dijo eso, y de la nada sentí como si mi vida abandonara mi cuerpo. Dijeron: “Si no regresas en una hora, te quedas atascado como un fantasma.” Eran las 2:00 PM, así que tenía una hora para jugar y explorar. Fui a ver lugares. Fui al Reino Unido, Asia y México. ¡Cuando estaba comiendo un taco, verifiqué qué hora era y ya eran las 2:55 PM!

Corrí todo el camino hasta los Estados Unidos, ¡pero lamentablemente ya era demasiado tarde! Cuando llegué eran las 3:01 PM. Pregunté si podía hacer algo para volver a ser humano. Dijeron que puedo completar una cosa para volver. Tengo que entrar en una cueva para ir a buscar un cristal raro.

11:59 pm, New York City. Whirr! The R train has arrived. Tons of businessmen went into the train. “Do you have any spare change?” Jade the mother asked.

“Nah, you look so much like a noob. Get ya own money, noobie,” BoChamp snickered back.

Jade begged and begged, but they all denied. “Sorry, son. Guess this is how much food we can have today,” Jade sadly said to her son.

One day later: “We found a deli!” Jade shouted.

But inside the deli was that jealous man, BoChamp. “Ahh, those guys again.

They’re probably here to steal food and get arrested. Ha Ha.” BoChamp snickered. Again.

“Let’s see about that,” Jade said back. They started a competition.

Jade found enough coins to buy a lottery ticket. She scratched the ticket and won the prize. “What? This is a joke! Fake!” BoChamp yelled.

“Well, this is true. You’re getting arrested,” Jade said. Starting from now, no one was disturbing Jade and her son.

11:59 pm, Ciudad de Nueva York. ¡Zumbido! El tren R ha llegado. Montones de hombres de negocios subieron al tren. “¿Tienes algún cambio de repuesto?” preguntó Jade la madre.

“No, te pareces mucho a un novato. Consíguete tu propio dinero, novato”, le espetó BoChamp.

Jade suplicó y suplicó, pero todos negaron. “Lo siento, hijo. Supongo que esta es la cantidad de comida que podemos comer hoy”, dijo Jade con tristeza a su hijo.

Un día después: “¡Encontramos un deli!” gritó Jade.

“Yea no.” I reach for the car door to try to pull it open. It’s locked.

“But Ben . . . “ I whipped my head to where I thought I could hear the voice, but there was nothing to be seen.

“Why are you even calling my grandpa’s name?!” I snapped, trying to unlock the door, to no avail. Just like that the car started to speed off, not stopping anytime soon. I look at the car window. My eyes glance around the area and I sigh. “This is gonna hurt.” I punch the window with as much force I can muster. I shattered it a little, and yelp as glass flung into my fist.

I used my legs to kick off the remaining glass and cursed under my breath. I sit up and poke my head out of the window. I looked at the pavement. “Is letting myself be taken away from this car that bad?” I pondered for a moment before shaking my head. “Not interested.” With a brief moment of hesitation I slide out the window hearing the cries from the car begging me not to do it. I grunt when I hit the floor but the adrenaline kept me going. I ran to the nearest house I could find and let myself rest. I got my phone and called my grandpa. He called a taxi for me and I went home.

“Sí no.” Llego a la puerta del coche para intentar abrirla, cerrada.

“Pero Ben . . . “ Giré mi cabeza hacia donde pensé que podía escuchar la voz, pero no había nada que ver.

“¡¿Por qué llamas siquiera el nombre de mi abuelo?!” espeté tratando de abrir la puerta, sin éxito. Así el coche empezó a acelerar, sin detenerse pronto. Miro la ventana del auto. Mis ojos miran alrededor del área y suspiro.

“Esto va a doler.” Golpeo la ventana con toda la fuerza que puedo reunir. Lo hice añicos un poco y solté un grito cuando el vidrio cayó en mi puño.

Usé mis piernas para patear el vaso restante y maldije en voz baja.

Me siento y saco la cabeza por la ventana. ​​Miré el pavimento. “¿Dejarme llevar fuera de este coche es tan malo?” Reflexioné por un momento antes de negar con la cabeza. “No me interesa.” Con un breve momento de vacilación me deslizo por la ventana escuchando los gritos del coche rogándome que no lo haga. The Ghost with Sofia and Jenny

It all started with two new students named Jenny and Sofia. They were both cousins and got along with each other very well, they were both very shy and didn’t like to get called on. Today Jenny and Sofia were going to have a sleepover for a project for school. When they got home they went to Jenny’s room and chilled for a few minutes before starting their homework. When they were done they decided to go and get burgers and sit in the park and eat the burgers as the sun started to go down they played on the swings until they heard giggles. They both looked scared so they minded their own business and kept on playing. All of a sudden they saw the swing move they both got scared and went to the monkey bars they made a bet of who can run the fastest and of course Sofia won. They caught their breath and stopped.

Sofia was talking to Jenny. Jenny was freaked out when she saw a ghost behind Sofia. Sofia was about to turn around when Jenny screamed.

Sofia got surprised and looked at her. She didn’t stop screaming so Sofia slapped her shoulder and she stopped, but then Sofia looked behind Jenny and saw the ghost so Sofia grabbed Jenny’s hand and ran. Jenny started to question her like, “What happened. What did you see.”

Then Sofia said, “I’ll tell you when we get home.”

Sofia stopped. They hid behind a tree and Sofia told her all about how she saw the ghost. They both saw the ghost. When they heard it say, “Wait, I want to say something.” So they stopped and looked at the ghost.

Sofia said, “What do you want from us?”

The ghost said, “I want to play with you.” So at the end the three of them started to play.

El fantasma con Sofia y Jenny por Sofia Merino, 12 años

Todo comenzó con dos nuevas estudiantes llamadas Jenny y Sofia. Las dos eran primas y se llevaban muy bien, las dos eran muy tímidas y no les gustaba ser llamadas. Hoy Jenny y Sofia iban a tener una pijamada para un proyecto para la escuela. Cuando llegaron a casa, fueron a la habitación de Jenny y pasaron el rato durante unos minutos antes de comenzar con la tarea. Jenny comenzó a cuestionarla como, “Qué pasó. Qué viste.”

A child and her mother went to a playground and something moved by itself.

The mom and the child went to the house because they were scared of it and her grandparent was dying and someone said, “Hello, I am here,” and the mom was possessed and the child didn’t know anything. The mom starts to say weird things.

TO BE CONTINUED. The weird thing that the mom said was, “Stay here please,” and the child heard everything and the child saw “what was happening” and the mom turned around and tried to catch her but couldn’t because she ran so fast.

The daughter was so impressed but the mother pointed out to someone and talked. Mia the daughter was looking down at the door. Mia felt so cold like when you go to a winter place but someone said, “Come here don’t be scared.”

The dad, Rancel, came to the house and saved the daughter from her mother.

The dad said, “Run, run, hurry up,” because the mom was close to getting her but Mia was saved by her dad.

Una niña y su madre fueron a un parque infantil y algo se movió solo. La madre y su niña fueron a la casa porque estaban asustadas de él y su abuelo estaba muriendo y alguien dijo, “Hola, estoy aquí,” y la madre estaba poseída y la niña no sabía nada. La madre empieza a decir cosas raras.

CONTINUARÁ.

La cosa rara que la madre dijo era, “Quédate aqui por favor,” y la niña oyó todo y la niña vio “lo que estaba pasando” y la madre se dio la vuelta y intentó atraparla pero no pudo porque corrió muy rápido.

La hija estaba muy impresionada pero la madre señaló a alguien y habló. Mia la hija estaba mirando a la puerta. Mia se sintió tan fría como cuando vas a un lugar de invierno pero alguien dijo, “Ven aquí no te asustes.” El padre, Rancel, vino a la casa y salvó a la hija de su madre. On a dark night, David was watching the news. “Many people have been missing in California as well as young children,” the woman on the T.V. said.

Wow . . . shocking, David thought. “Hey Lily, come here! Who’s a good girl?! Who’s a good girl?!” David said. Lily, his dog, was a small white pomeranian only 5 months old and was friendly. His dog didn’t move. “Lily?”

David said. “You know what, you want a treat right? I’m going to get you something,” he said as he left the room. He grabbed the bag of dog treats and went back to the room. “Lily I got you somethin—” he stared at his dog in fear.

He was shaking, he felt like he could not breathe anymore. There he stood looking at his dog now covered in blood with a toy ball next to her. He cried “LILY! LILY!” He crouched to her crying. He looked at her and looked at the ball, bright yellow with a paper attached to it. “You’re NEXT!” it said with bold letters written with a red pen. He felt someone behind him. He quickly turned around, no one was there.

“WHO’S THERE?!” David yelled.

“ME!” someone said in the distance. He felt someone choking him but no one was there . . . David was now dead. He laid next to his dead dog facing up.

The phone rang. “Hey David. I saw your door open by itself which was weird and it’s still open right now, what are you doing?” his friend said.

“David?” his friend hung up and opened his apartment door. No one was there, not the dog or David.

The door shut behind him.

“HELLO!”

The Ghost’s Scream

Once upon a time, there was a little girl who lived with her aunt. One day, her aunt was cooking lunch and the little girl was playing with her dolls. Then, she heard the stove turn off. She thought to herself, “Auntie should have called me down by now.” Then, she heard a loud screech coming from the kitchen.

She slowly walked down the creaky stairs, trying not to make a sound. But then, she heard her name get called down but it was not her aunt’s voice. It was creaky and sent chills down her spine. She heard, “Come down, I have something for you.” When she heard the voice, she thought it would be too risky to go to the kitchen, but she had to save her aunt. She went back up and got a pencil, a phone that could only call 911, and some snacks. Then, she got her water bottle and put it in her backpack, then put the other stuff in, then she went downstairs, then a few seconds later she heard another scream, but louder.

Ghost Car 1 “No,” I told myself. I was about to jump out but it locked me down tight.

“The only way to survive is to step on the gas,” the car said with what I think was a wicked smile. I did. It drove, then kicked me out in front of my house.

What have I done?!

Ghost Car 2 (Rustle) “Who’s there?” said the Janitor of school. The Janitor turned around.

“Aaaaaaahhhhh!”

(Chirping in the background) I latched my backpack on and went outside. I’m walking to my school.

“Hi Carlos,” a kid said.

“Oh hi Benjamin,” Carlos said back.

“So anything interesting?” Carlos said.

“Na,” Benjamin lied. They silently went the rest of the way to school.

They were inside the school. They did all the boring school stuff you don’t need to know. But there was a rumor going on that a ghost had gone rogue last week in the city and killed a person every night.

“No way that rumor’s real, especially with the ghost,” said Ben with a chuckle.

Carlos noticed his fake chuckle but he smiled like he didn’t know anything.

“See you tomorrow, Ben,” Carlos said.

“See yah,” Ben said.

Carlos wanted to trust Ben but now knew something was going on and he had to know.

Ghost Car 3 I’m Carlos from the other chapter, yeah me. The next few days were regular, I mean as regular as it can get with a ghost on the loose. But today was a special day. It was Ben’s birthday. We played water balloon fights. When we were playing I found a strange thing, a car key lying down on the ground.

Pushoooo a water balloon hit me right in the chest by Ben’s sister, Ashley. I giggled and chased her to throw a water balloon at her.

“Kids, always the excited ones,” said Grandpa Ed, smiling with his eyes blind.

We played for about 30 more minutes until Ben’s mother said, “Cake time.” We all rushed into the house, all 14 of us, to get the first cake. Ashley got first. Ben got second and I got fourth pick. We hastily said happy birthday to Ben, eager to eat the cake but the light turned off.

“Sttop ppllayying trrickks onn me,” I stammered.

Vvrrrrr.

“Aaahhhhh!” someone screamed.

“Aaaahhhhh!” someone else screamed.

“Sh-show yourself,” Ben stammered.

“But you set me free,” they said.

Ben was stunned.

“What d-do y-you m-mean?” I stammered.

Ben didn’t say anything, dumbstruck. The thing jumped on me but Ben pushed me into the backyard.

“Eahaaahhhhhh!” Ben screamed.

I was all alone in the dark night.

I stammered on my feet trying to find a weapon or something. Then I saw the thing’s real appearance. It was a car. And then I remembered the car key.

It pounced. Weird, right? I rolled away. It pounced again. I was pinned to the ground. I felt something, the car key. I flailed and grabbed it. I held it up.

Pshoosh the car was gone. Everything was normal.

El Auto Fantasma 1 “No,” me dije a mí mismo. Estaba a punto de saltar fuera pero él me apretó y bloqueó.

Era el cumpleaños de Ben. Jugamos a peleas de globos de agua. Cuando estábamos jugando encontré una cosa rara, la llave de un coche estaba tirada en el suelo. Pushoooo la hermana de Ben, Ashley, tiró un globo de agua que me golpeó en el pecho. Me reí y la perseguí para lanzarle un globo de agua.

“Niños, siempre los entusiastas,” dijo el Abuelo Ed, sonriendo con los ojos ciegos. Jugamos por casi 30 minutos más hasta que la madre de Ben dijo, “Hora de la tarta.” Nos apresuramos a entrar en la casa, todos los 14, para conseguir la primera tarta. Ashley llegó antes. My room is in a graveyard, but I got trapped in the future. The room is dark but I got an annoying person that sleeps here. I tried to scare him, but boys sleep late, but I scared him so much that he didn’t sleep in the room for a year.

So then, his mom said, “You should sleep in your room.”

So the little kid said, “Room, this is my room, I want it back.”

“No,” I said, “Boy you look cold. Want to eat some rice with lasagna on Christmas?”

The boy and I became best friends after that Christmas. My mom and dad are fine with me living with my friends. Then came the future. Then the friend’s discovered everything but then they figured that was his great great great great great grandfather. My friends found their family. Then my family and I moved.

Out of nowhere, a bat hit her legs. Lia fell down 30 flights of stairs and breaking in agony. She crawled to the front door. Some grabbed her broken legs as she turned around in shock. Roger, Stephanie’s father, the girl she killed.

826NYC Programs Write After School Reading and writing go together like peanut butter and jelly. Write After School students work alongside 826NYC staff and volunteers to build their reading, writing, socialemotional skills and unleash their imagination as they play and learn about the power of language. Three times a year, students revise their creative writing for publications that are printed in English and Spanish and shared with families, volunteers, and community members at celebratory readings.

Write Away Workshops Young writers come together in Write Away Workshops to explore a multitude of genres and subjects and to develop their voices. Groups write freely and participate in imaginative writing activities and lessons. Whether it’s a song, a piece of climate justice sci-fi, or a nature guide, young writers leave the workshop with a piece to be proud of, as well as a newfound understanding of the topic, and new friends.

Write All About It In Write All About It, reporters from grades 5-8 learn how to conduct a great interview, how to write a classic news story, and more importantly, how to sniff out where the great untold stories of Brooklyn are hiding. We focus on hyper-local news to see how it connects to what’s going on across the country and around the world. Student work is published regularly in The 826NYC Post on 826NYC’s Medium page.

Young Writers Publish Turn your classroom into a creative writing lab. During Young Writers Publish residencies, 826NYC teaching artists collaborate with educators on creative, impactful, curriculumaligned projects that transform students into published authors. Residencies run from six weeks to a full year, depending on the project. Each Young Writers Publish culminates in a book, newspaper, zine, podcast, film, or performance featuring your students.

Write Together 826NYC hosts classes across New York City for Write Together: an interactive writing experience that encourages creative expression, explores the elements of storytelling, and strengthens writing skills. Elementary-aged classes collaborate on illustrated children’s books, middle schoolers choose their own adventure, and high schoolers learn the art of memoir writing during a fast- paced and whimsical 90 minute narrative program.

Teen Writers Collective Teens are the next generation of literary leaders. That’s why we launched the Teen Writers’ Collective. The collective brings together young writers from around the city to explore the art of writing and literary citizenship. They are a community of passionate and creative peers, serve as 826NYC youth leaders, and inspire younger students and peers across the network.

Dungeons & Dragons & Writers Dungeons & Dragons, the epic fantasy role-playing game where players craft characters to take on magical quests that can change with the roll of the dice, has a home at 826NYC. A band of adventurous authors in grades 5-8 play out an entirely original tale and chronicle their fantastical deeds in character point-of-view journals, histories, and scene writing. Sometimes the greatest gift is the friends we make — and make up — along the way.

Student Publications Through our programs, our volunteers work with students to help them create stories, poems, and ’zines. Because we believe that the quality of students’ work is greatly enhanced when they are given the chance to share it with an authentic audience, we are committed to publishing student works. By encouraging their work and by guiding them through the process of publication, we make abundantly clear that their ideas are valued.

This book is a collection of stories and poems by students in 826NYC’s Write After School & Write Away Workshops programs. Young writers from ages 6-18 wrote stories about their favorite places, traveling in a time machine, and meeting ghosts both friendly and frightening. Touch All the Buttons will transport you to new worlds with original work written by Brooklyn’s most creative and curious young authors.
