There’s No End to Adventure

There’s No End to Adventure! by Rewan Qoteit, age 12

Hi, my name is Adrian. You probably think I’m a normal kid who still has a lot of life ahead of him, and I 99.9% agree with that. But you missed a very important part: I’m not a normal kid. At least not anymore. I was a great kid who did everything well in school, because I liked to explore and challenge myself, and that’s all thanks to my dad. He was a great man and also my role model. He was very smart and made many inventions that helped the world, and that is exactly what I wanted to do. I had a very hard school project where we had to find plants from all around the world and write about it. AND IT WAS 99% OF OUR GRADE. I had to take it seriously and had to make this perfect or I wouldn’t forgive myself. I told myself I was going to make this the best plant project the teacher would ever see. My first idea was to ask my parents for help, and my mom said to just go on Google and search for some flowers. No way I was going to do that. My mom then said to wait until your dad comes back and ask him. I’d been sitting in this chair for about three hours . . . still no sign of dad. I was very excited, and I wanted to start right away because I knew there would be a lot of adventures going on. I stayed hours and hours waiting until I gave up. My mom was getting tired of me asking, and moments later I was fast asleep. I woke up in the morning laying on the sofa with my orange folder, damp, on my face, which was dry just yesterday. But then I heard my dad. I ran up and woke up my dad which isn’t usually a good idea. I told him all about my project and he said that I had nothing to worry about because . . . we were going

on a vacation to see the whole world. OMG I was so happy. Not only would I have the best project, but I would get to see THE WORLD. And sadly not a lot of people get to live and see this other part of the world. It’s not all a rollercoaster where there’s ups and downs. It might be, but there’s more than that. More than money and materials. There’s beauty in this world, and I was very happy I was going to have this experience with my family.“When are we leaving?” I asked my dad, and he said tomorrow morning. TOMORROW MORNING. I went upstairs and started packing my bags, just throwing everything I saw in the drawers and closet. I saw the inventions that my dad gave me, like the shrinker and the laser flashlight and not the least—his new invention: the fly . . . fly . . . thing. I didn’t know what it was called and what it did. I’d ask him later. I put them in my bag, and I went to sleep, a very needed sleep. Next morning finally came, and we started leaving for my dad’s private jet. Everything was going very smoothly, but I was still tired and fell asleep. But soon after my mom came out with devastating news. We were heading home because there was a huge dangerous storm blocking our way. I was so sad. I was looking forward to this, but there was something more I had to worry about. As my mom was speaking we heard a great BOOM! We ran to check the noise. The engine was broken. My dad tried to steer the plane, but it wouldn’t move. The whole plane started shaking, and windows started cracking. We were heading directly into the black, dark storm. I started getting scared. So many things were happening at the same time. My mom yelled for us to calm down and that everything was alright, even as the plane shook. I looked out the window and saw bright colors heading our way, as if it was a portal. Oh no! We weren’t in beautiful New York anymore.
