WHY PEOPLE LOVE VINE Ana Martinez-Lozano A lady asks, “What’s your name?’’ Someone answers, “Lebron James.’’ It’s not really Lebron James. It’s a kid who looks like he is about eight years old. He says it five times in a six-second video. This a new video website and app called Vine. Vine was formed in January of 2013. It was created by three men named Rus Yusupov, Dom Hofmann, and Colin Kroll. Ben Andrews, social media manager at The Advertising Agency in Los Angeles, said that making a good Vine can be challenging. “A good vine either displays something interesting visually, tells a quick joke or catches people’s attention so they want to keep watching it,” said Andrews.

Disneyland: HIGHER TICKET PRICES!!! Amy Ma & Rachel Kim In Disneyland, there are new rides like Frozen and ones about many other movies. The new rides for Frozen consist of Olaf ’s Snow Fest, the Frozen-Sing-Along, and the Trading Post gift shop. You can meet Anna and Elsa, and have a family dance party. There are also rumors that a new Star Wars ride is about to come out. According to Disneyland’s website, many changes are happening in Tomorrowland. The employees are making new rides to make their customers happy. According to Michelle, a Tutor at 826LA, she said that the Haunted Museum was a RIP-OFF! However, one BIG problem is that the prices have increased--a single day for an adult is $99 and children, from 3 to 9 years old, are $93! The park-hopper is now $56, and overall, the prices have increased by 140% since the year 2000. In Florida’s Disney World, the price is $105 per child and is $200 per adult. We talked to our 826LA friends Zach King and Michelle Wilker about it. Zach said that he does not like it, and Michelle Wilker said that it makes her sad.

SKI RESORTS IN THE SUMMER Zach King You might think that ski resorts shut down during the summer. You are wrong! You would be surprised just how much is going on there. Whistler, British Columbia, Canada is the home of Whistler-Blackcomb, the biggest ski resort in North America. A former host of the 2010 Olympics, Whistler-Blackcomb is full of international travelers from places like the U.K.,Singapore,and Australia. But what are the town’s 10,400 permanent residents doing during the summer? The town actually sees more visitors in summer than in winter, according to Patricia Westerholm, Manager of Tourism for Whistler. Westerholm says “Whistler gets more than 2.5 Million unique visitors annually, with approximately 1.6 million in summer (May through October) and just over one million unique visitors in winter (November through April).” Weird to think a Ski resort gets more people in the summer than the winter!

In Disneyland history, Walt Disney explained, “Opening day, was a day to remember. Six thousand invitations to the Grand Opening had been mailed. By mid-afternoon, over 28,000 ticket holders were storming the Magic Kingdom. Most of the tickets were counterfeit.” This states how Disneyland was popular when it just opened. Today, fake tickets are still sold on Craigslist and many other internet markets. We hope you enjoy Disneyland.

Vines are not always in one spot. They are all over the world in different languages. In August of 2014 100 million people watched Vines per month so that’s 25 million per week according, to a Techcrunch article. According to Techcrunch, Vine was released close to the date of the incident in the Boston Marathon. When Vine was released many people made videos about the bombing and many people started to make comments on how bad it looked. Some Vines are not meant to be funny. Many people are serious about what they put on Vine.

In this Disneyland survey, 17 people wanted to go to Disneyland, while 3 people did NOT want to go. After telling people about the prices getting higher, 14 still wanted to go, but 4 changed their mind to say “NO!” It’s not a problem for everyone, though. Natalie Sanchez replied, “I have an annual pass!” We asked several people if they think their parents would let them go with the higher prices. Our friend Allie at 826LA, said “Never” for the question, and Michelle said, “Only for special occasions.” Rachael Kim is AWESOME. She is in 4th grade, is 10 years old, and goes to Third Street School. She plays piano and flute. Amy Ma is AWESOMEST OF ALL THE AWESOME. She is also in 4th grade, is 10 years old, and goes to Hancock Park. She plays the violin. Whistler visitors have plenty of activities including Mountain Biking,Golf and sight-seeing. They can also participate in Tough Mudders, festivals and bike races. Westerholm notes that “Whistler also has lots of exciting free concerts like the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.” I am Zach King. I am 9. I go to Citizens Of The World Hollywood Charter School and I am a basketball star. I like Journalism for it’s writing, pics and creativity!

Ana Martinez-Lozano likes soccer and she comes to 826LA because it’s a fun place to hang out, do homework and make new friends. Her new friend is named Ana.
