INTROÂ

 In the book that read, called witness by Karen Hesse, the sad murderers truth comes out and reveals the horrors that people of a different race had to endure.  In the beginning, one of the characters in the poetic based book is introduced as a dancer but most of the other girls don't want to dance alongside a nigro. The book seems to present unfairness and cruelty and unfortunately all of the things that the K.K.K did was all real. in the civil rights time period people were unjust and not fair this includes segregation, the K.K.K, and discrimination.

Segregation was a cruel time in which people who were of a different race were made to do things in a much harder way than people who were white.

Segregation is when people of a different race might be made to take the back way, they were stereotyped and were accused of things they did not do. when a black person wanted to do something like go to the movies, or eat at a dinner, they were made to go the back door so as not to disturb the white people.

Other times black people who wanted a drink of water or to go to the bathroom they were made to use the “colored” utilities.

SEGREGATION Then when a black person sits on a bus they can only sit in the back of the bus, and if they got a seat in the front if a white person came on and did not have a seat then the black person was made to get up and stand on the bus ride. Most of the examples I learned from studying rosa parks in fourth grade. She was made to stand up on the bus and use colored bathrooms. The other example I learned from watching the movie “The Watsons go to Birmingham.” All of the things I learned tie into to the history in the book witness.

Most of these things also go along with the K.K.K, which was also a devastating time for those who were not of whatever religion the K.K.K practiced. The K.K.K was also pretty big in the civil right time period. The K.K.K (Ku Klux Klan) was a terrorist group that preyed upon people of different religion or race (mainly black people).

The K.K.K has been known for hate crimes against black people.

They have also been known for burning crosses and the bombing of churches and schools.

People in southern states in the 1800’s went along with the klans actions therefore making it a similar situation with WW2.

My research on the detail I found in http://www.history.com/to pics/ku-klux-klan. The article explains all of my details in full and also give some more detail.The K.K.K was one of the most feared hate groups in america.

Discrimination along with the K.K.K was harmful in many ways, though not being a physical hate group it did belong to a mental group of its own. Discrimination was when “the superior race” got benefits no one else could have.

It is like saying, even though your the best soccer player in the world we would rather have the “white guy”. But discrimination was not just about sports, it could be about anything from being on a team to being a doctor or a lawyer. Race was not the only thing that was discriminated against, women were also brought up not to have an opinion. People discriminated against race mainly in the civil rights time, some examples are when black people were hired but paid less because of their skin color. In 1964 a law was passed making it so that people of a different race, religion, origin, or sex could work and get the same privileges a white person/male would get. .

The research was found on The facts about discrimination. . There are laws on this and apparently this law was passed in 1964.

Discrimination is still a problem in some cases but it has not been as bad as say 70 years ago

CONCLUSION So in all the book still seems to present unfairness and cruelty, in the civil rights time period people were unjust and not fair this includes segregation, the K.K.K, and discrimination. So what is this time period similar to? I thought it was quite similar to WW2 with the segregation and terrorist and hate crimes.
