FRENCH RESISTANCE More than 80 million people were killed during the devastating time of World War II. In May 1942, the French Resistance was created. Little did they know that over 40,000 of their members would be kidnapped, tortured, and killed. This was what it was like for many people in France, and from those 80 million people; 40,000 of them were part of the French Resistance. During World War II the French Resistance fought against Nazi Germany by creating a spy ring, which often ran the risk of capture and execution (ultimately helping France defeat Germany). The events of this time were tragic but these events shaped the world we know today.

Many members of the French Resistance were captured. Even the two different group of the French Resistance, Maquis which were the members of the French Resistance who believed violence was the answer. And the anti-Germans who used nonviolent solutions. Though Germany had defeated France, the members of the French Resistance encouraged the French to keep fighting.

Which was how many of them got captured, and killed. Jean Moulin encouraged the resistance groups to combine all together into the Conseil National de la Résistance (CNR). According to World War II Database (ww2db.com), “Moulin was captured by the German Gestapo and was tortured to death...29 May 1943, Berthe Albrecht was captured by German agents in Mâcon, France.”

Many members of the French Resistance spies, were captured and interrogated. Until they were eventually executed.

FRENCH RESISTANCE

Execution

After getting kidnapped the French spies got interrogated and eventually executed by the Nazi’s if not given the wanted information. And according to National WW.2 Museum, “ 350000 and 217,600 military members died during World War II.” Though this is a devastating amount of deaths it inspired the members of the French Resistance.

The French Resistance were the group of people who refused to surrender to the Nazi’s, losing many members of their nation inspired them to fight harder against the people responsible.

End of WW.2

Until May 7, 1945 for years many people, lived their lives fearing what would happen next. But with the help of the French Resistance and the signing of the surrender; there will be no more fearing. Only celebrating, the end of World War II.

Though at the time Germany seemed to be unstoppable, Germany did eventually sign a surrender on May 7, 1945. “ On May 7, 1945, Germany signed an unconditional surrender at Allied headquarters in Reims, France, to take effect the following day, ending the European conflict of World War II,” (The Learning Network.) Following with the surrender of Japan in September. This lead to the suicide of Adolf Hitler the leader of the Natzi Germans. According to The Learning Network, “Knowing that defeat was imminent, Hitler committed suicide, leaving Karl Dönitz to carry out the surrender of the Nazis.” Because of the surrender of the Natzi’S, most European countries now have a holiday on May 8 called: Victory Day. A day to celebrate the end of Hitler’s raft.

WHERE &WHEN On May 10, 1940 the Nazi's invaded France. Therefore, defeating France, and boosting the idea of the French Resistance. But one of the important parts of the invasions, is that it was in the west. Which gave the Nazi's the direction to go to their next target.Â
