17 San Jacinto Aerial Tramway

We will be ascending 2 and a half miles to a pristine wilderness topping out at Mountain Station- elevation 8,516 feet. They have two restaurants, observation decks, natural history museum, two documentary theaters, and plenty of accessible day hiking trails in an alpine wilderness.

23 Knott's Scary Farm

Youth Programs members will be taking a scary trip to the frightful Knotts Scary Farm Spooktacular Fright Night. This is a scary event meant for entertainment purposes it is suggested for youth 13 years and older.

28 Trunk-or-Treat

The Ghouls and goblins are coming out to play on Friday, October 27 at the Community Center. Join the Community Center along with other organizations on base for a night of trick or treating fun. Costumes are very highly encouraged and everyone with base access is welcome to participate.

Managing Your Move

Thursday, October 19 | November 16 • 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Get good advice on planning your next PCS from the clinic, traffic management and finance.

DoD Education Track (2 days)

November 7 - 8 | 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Transitioning Service Members, Spouses, Retirees and Veterans can learn about education resources available. This is a quarterly workshop part of the Transition Assistance Program (TAP).

Join ODR for a 2-day canoe expedition of the Black Canyon in Nevada (just south of Lake Mead)!

Paddlers will have the opportunity to explore small caverns, grottos, and hidden coves along the banks of the river. After the first day of leisurely paddling, we will be having a river side camp out on the beach next to the Colorado River, where ODR will prepare a specialty backcountry dinner next to a warming fire under the stars.

Grab the family and join ODR as we make our way to Palm Springs! Ride on the largest rotating aerial tramway in the world as it makes its way into San Jacinto State Park.

We will be ascending 2 and a half miles to a pristine wilderness topping out at Mountain Station- elevation 8,516 feet. They have two restaurants, observation decks, natural history museum, two documentary theaters, and plenty of accessible day hiking trails in an alpine wilderness.

We will be returning to one of the most popular natural rock-climbing destinations in the world... Joshua Tree! Learn from expert instructors! Climbers will challenge and push themselves to new heights on natural rock routes of varying difficulties. The group will go on a mild ODR led hike to a scenic lookout and camp out under the stars in a private campground reserved for us. Equipment, guided rock-climbing experience, meals at camp, and transportation from Los Angeles Air Force Base are provided.

Trek Across America & California are self-paced programs that allow individuals to be rewarded when the goal is achieved. These year-round programs are based on an honor system. Worksheets are located in a folder by the front desk at the El Segundo and Fort MacArthur Fitness Centers to keep track of your mileage. Prizes are awarded when you reach highlighted landmarks along the map. If you participate in the Trek across California, you can transfer your mileage to the USA Trek starting from Amarillo, Texas. TRX is an exciting exercise program that utilizes suspension training which is scalable to all ability levels within a fun and safe environment. Using your own body weight and gravity, the TRX suspension system offers hundreds of fun and challenging exercises and can be used for strength, mobility, and joint stability. It's for people at all fitness levels This small group TRX Suspension session will cover the basic movement patterns (Leg, Push, Pull, Hinge, Core) associated in every workout while also having fun.

Focus will be given to setting up the TRX correctly, understanding the progressions and regressions associated with each movement so that each person can determine how hard they work simply by changing the angle of the body and by the intensity brought to the movement.

1000 lbs. & 500 lbs. Club

Purpose: The purpose of the 1000 lbs. and 500 lbs. clubs is to acknowledge the physical achievement and dedication to training of Los Angeles Air Force Base Personnel.

Overview: To become a "member" of the club, one must perform one repetition of a Squat, Bench Press and Deadlift. After all 3 lifts are successfully completed, the total weight lifted is added up. To be a member of the 500 lb. club (women only), the total weight lifted must 500 lbs or greater. To be a member of the 1000 lb. club (open), the total weight lifted must be 1000 lbs or greater. All lifts must occur on the same day within a 60 minute time period under the guidance of the fitness center staff. Rankings will be developed by total pound for pound strength (total weight lifted/total body weight).

How to participate: Set-up an appointment with our staff at either El Segundo or Ft. MacArthur who will act as judges and spotters for your lifts. This challenge is ongoing and can be completed anytime during the year and you may re-test at any time as well.

4-H Healthy Cooking (Ages 9-18)

Fridays, 4 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Come on in to develop your cooking abilities. Learn about safety in the kitchen, health, and sanitation, how to set a dining table. Explore your experimental cooking by adding your own touches to recipes and trying foods you have never tried before. Learn some of the science behind cooking your meals.

STEAM Center of Innovation (Ages 5-18)

Monday - Friday (Ages 9-18) : 3 p.m. - 5:45 p.m.

Tuesdays (Ages 5 to 8) : 4 p.m. - 5 p.m.

The STEAM room is open five days a week! Join staff for directed and other cool STEM projects, or just stop by for some solo time on a computer, using 3D pens, building robots, flying drones, and much more.

Parents are asked to come to Youth Programs or call to register for the number of family members that will be attending, and to sign up for the dish they will be bringing for the dinner. Please bring a side dish that will serve at least 14 people. Youth Programs will provide the Turkey and Ham for this event. Registering will let us know how much Turkey and Ham we should buy. Celebrate family time with us.

Kids Konnection Bug Hunt

Ages 5 and under join us for a FREE creepy crawly bug hunt! Everyone will be given a creepy BINGO style card and they will hunt around the Community Center for looking for creepy bugs that match the ones on their card. Once you match all your bugs, you get some candy! Costumes are very highly encouraged, but not required.

Join LA Star Crafts in a frightfully creative crafting time! Participants will get to create a Halloween trick or treat bag & paint a pumpkin! The painted pumpkins will be left behind and displayed at our Trunk-or-Treat on October 27 for the whole community to see! Registration is required to participate, and all ages are welcome.

School Liaisons are also an initial contact for participation in the Youth Sponsorship Program which builds resilience in youth and eases transition. COURSE DESCRIPTION

Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. Participants who successfully complete the Lifeguarding course receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/ AED valid for 2 years.

PREREQUISITES

Minimum age: 15 years; Swim 300 yards continuously; Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs; Complete a timed event within 1 minute 40 seconds by starting in the water swimming 20 yards surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point exit the water without using steps or a ladder.

*Online lessons must be completed before the first in-person class session. In-Person Class Meetings are held at Fort MacArthur Swimming Pool.

REGISTRATION FEE: $45.00 (SPACE IS LIMITED)
