A Day to Celebrate Community and Wellness!
Today, we come together to celebrate more than a race— we celebrate the strength, determination and spirit that define this incredible community. Whether you’re here to run, walk, cheer or support, your presence makes this day extraordinary.
The OhioHealth Capital City Half & Quarter Marathon is a tradition that grows more meaningful each year, and we’re honored to be part of it. This year, we’re especially excited to welcome back the National Meet Up for Black Girls RUN! for the second year in a row. Their mission to inspire Black women to embrace health and wellness is a powerful reminder of what this event is all about: lifting each other up and striving for a healthier future.
We’re also proud to continue supporting the OhioHealth Mobile Mammography Unit through the OhioHealth Foundation. For more than 15 years, this program has been a beacon of hope, providing vital breast cancer screenings to women who might otherwise face barriers to care.
At OhioHealth, we believe in the power of community to create lasting change. As central Ohio’s largest health system, we’re committed to being your partner in health — not just today, but every day.
On behalf of the 35,000 associates, physicians and volunteers who make up the OhioHealth family, thank you for being part of this special day. Celebrate your achievements, support one another and take pride in the difference you’re making.
Stephen E. Markovich, MD President and CEO OhioHealth

Runners and Walkers:
On behalf of Franklin County and all of our residents, welcome to the 23rd Anniversary Celebration of the OhioHealth Capital City Half & Quarter Marathon.
Half marathons are as much about competing as they are about exercise and promoting a healthy lifestyle. Franklin County is leading the way in supporting our community to stay active and committed to their health and wellness and we know that a strong community requires a healthy one.
We are indeed a destination on the rise because of our diverse and accessible blend of urban, suburban and rural attractions. Through our community’s infrastructure, amenities, convenience and affordability, Columbus annually hosts a variety of professional, collegiate, amateur and youth sports events, including the OhioHealth Capital City Half & Quarter Marathon each year since 2004.
I congratulate the OhioHealth Capital City Half & Quarter Marathon on more than two decades of success in Central Ohio. The event has become a spring celebration of the healthy and active lifestyle in Columbus and I am proud to say that I have run with you in this event several times!
Thank you for your participation in and support of the OhioHealth Capital City Half & Quarter Marathon and best of luck on Race Day!
Sincerely,

Kevin L. Boyce President Franklin County Board of Commissioners

More than $32,000 donated to the OhioHealth Foundation in 2025
In 2025, the OhioHealth Capital City Half & Quarter Marathon, Jet’s Pizza, and additional partners donated more than $32,000 to the OhioHealth Foundation, supporting the OhioHealth Mobile Mammography Program.
This funding helps provide vital breast health screenings to women across Ohio. With 1 in 8 women developing breast cancer in their lifetime, early detection is critical—and this support helps save lives while sustaining the program.
Thank you to our partners and all 2025 Cap City participants for making this impact possible. To learn more or get involved, visit www.ohiohealth.com/ohiohealth-foundation

Andrew Ye, 24, of Stow, Ohio, took home top honors at the 2025 OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon.
Ye broke the tape in 1:09:20 to edge Keith Meyer, 30, of Powell, Ohio. Ye won the event after finishing third in 2024. Ye then backed up his win with a 1:06:01 clocking to win the OhioHealth Grandview Yard Half Marathon in August.
Veteran local runner and coach Becki Spellman, 41, of Galloway, Ohio, a four-time Olympic Trials qualifier in the marathon, won her fist Cap City crown with a 1:23:08 finish, edging Kari Meyers of Columbus, second at 1:24:40.
Cap City is more than a race—it’s a celebration and a 23-year-old tradition. In 2026, the OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon introduced the Cap City Legacy Pin Program, recognizing runners and walkers who have made Cap City part of their story year after year. Participants who reach 5, 10, 15 and 20 years of participation will receive a commemorative Legacy Pin at the Byers Xtra Mile Finish Party on race day. Whether it’s your fifth finish or your twentieth, the Legacy Pin Program celebrates the commitment, consistency and community that define Cap City.
M3S Sports brings “Live Fit Challenge” back in 2026
Back by popular demand, M3S Sports is excited to bring back the Live Fit Challenge in 2026—inviting runners and walkers to keep the momentum going from the OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon to the OhioHealth Grandview Yard Half Marathon. Inspired by the many Cap City participants who continue their fitness journey at Grandview Yard, the Challenge rewards those who complete both events, any distance, with an exclusive third medal celebrating their commitment to a healthy, active lifestyle.
How to Participate: Simply register for and complete any distance at both the 2026 Cap City and Grandview Yard events. Finishers will receive their exclusive medal at the Byers Xtra Mile Post-Race Party at Grandview Yard on Sunday, August 23.

After a remarkable celebration in 2025, Black Girls RUN! (BGR!) returns to Columbus for its official spring National Meet Up, once again partnering with the OhioHealth Capital City Half & Quarter Marathon and Columbus Promise 5K.
The Meet Up brings together runners and walkers from across the country for a celebration of fitness, community, and empowerment. Founded in 2009, BGR! is dedicated to encouraging African American women to lead active, healthy lives, and has grown to more than 250,000 members nationwide under CEO Jay Ell Alexander.
“We are thrilled to welcome BGR! back to Columbus,” said Race Director David Babner. “After last year’s success, this event has become a true highlight for our city and community. We’re excited to celebrate BGR!’s mission and the spirit of inclusivity and empowerment that aligns so closely with Cap City.”
Participants will enjoy exclusive perks including “double bling” medals, pre-race events and post-race celebrations.
This partnership also proudly supports the momentum of IgniteHER Columbus, a citywide initiative focused on elevating women’s sports and empowering the next generation of female athletes and leaders. By creating spaces where women can connect, compete and celebrate their achievements, the National Meet Up aligns perfectly with IgniteHER’s mission to expand opportunities, build community and inspire lasting impact through sport.
The second annual BGR! National Meet Up is set to be one of the most inspiring and high-energy moments of Cap City weekend. Special thanks to Cheralee Calhoun, Carolyn Thomas and Erica Darthard for their leadership and passion in bringing the National Meet Up to life.

Don’t miss these sites during the OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon, OhioHealth Quarter Marathon and Columbus Promise 5K.
The OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon begins and ends on High Street in the heart of Downtown Columbus, which is in the midst of a revival that has brought new restaurants and shops to the city center. More than 8,000 people now live in downtown Columbus. The John F. Wolfe Columbus Commons, site of the Byers Xtra Mile Finish Line Party, is a six-acre park that opened in 2011 and has spurred more than $400 million in private development. The park hosts more than 200 free events each year.
Originally built by German settlers in the mid-1800s, German Village features restored brick houses and shops with streets and sidewalks full of historic charm. The neighborhood was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974 and is one of the largest privately restored neighborhoods in the United States. At the center is Schiller Park. The city’s second oldest park was established in 1857 and is named for famous German poet Friedrich von Schiller.
The city’s iconic convention center was designed by famed architect Peter Eisenman and opened in 1993. It was expanded in 1999 and underwent a major renovation in 2016. The Greater Columbus Convention Center hosts nearly every major event that comes to the City of Columbus. Goodale Park, the city’s oldest public park, was donated to the City of Columbus in 1851. For a few months during the Civil War, the park was a staging area for Union Troops known as Camp Jackson. The park hosts ComFest, a free, non-corporate, annual music and arts festival held in the park in June.
The Ohio State University is a land-grant university that was founded in 1870 and is one of the largest universities in the United States with approximately 60,000 students on its main campus. The Half Marathon course goes past The Oval, an 11-acre park that is one of the most recognizable spots on campus. Gateway - University District is a mixed-use residential district featuring restaurants and retail on the southern end of the Ohio State campus.
The world-renowned home of the Ohio State Buckeyes football team, Ohio Stadium opened in 1922 with a then incomprehensible capacity of 66, 210 at a cost of $1.49 million. Today the stadium, also known as the Horseshoe or simply the ‘Shoe, sells all 102,802 seats on fall Saturdays as fans come from near and far to watch their beloved Buckeyes.
The Schottenstein Center, which includes Value City Arena, became the city’s first multi-purpose arena when it opened its doors in November 1998. The arena is home to the Ohio State men’s and women’s basketball teams, men’s ice hockey team, concerts and other special events. The arena seats 18,809 for basketball and is the largest arena in the Big Ten Conference.
HALF MARATHON, MILE 12 COLUMBUS PROMISE 5K, MILE 2
Nationwide Arena has been home to the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League since September 2000. The arena, which also hosts concerts and family events, sits at the heart of the Arena District, one of the city’s hottest entertainment districts that was built through a unique partnership between Nationwide Realty Investors and the City of Columbus.
HALF MARATHON, MILE 13 QUARTER MARATHON, MILE 6.4 COLUMBUS PROMISE 5K, MILE 3
Built between 1839 and 1861, the Ohio Statehouse is one of the oldest working statehouses in the United States. The Greek Revival building is at the heart of Capitol Square in downtown Columbus and houses the Ohio General Assembly and ceremonial offices for the state’s governor, lieutenant governor, treasurer and auditor.

Jacob Eickhoff was an active and athletic kid growing up in Milford Center, Ohio, and enjoyed competing on the football and baseball teams at Fairbanks High School.
But the 42-year-old husband and father from Marysville had a void in his life until his brother introduced him to running and walking events in 2021.
“My older brother Zach got me started in 2021 with the Ohio State 4 Miler which was a big draw for me,” Eickhoff said, “I am a lifelong Buckeye fan and to be out there with my brother and seeing the Horseshoe and finishing on the 50 was really enticing.”
That one event six years ago put Eickhoff on a PNC Path To Achievement that now includes more

than fifteen running and walking events a year. And he has the bibs to prove it.
“After Ohio State, I did the FORE! Miler and Flying Feather and then of course Cap City,” he said. “Now you almost can’t stop me from being there on race day.”
Eickhoff will run the OhioHealth Capital City Quarter Marathon this year for the fifth straight year. And he is already looking forward to crossing the Cap City finish line, among his favorites on the M3S trail.
“What I like about running is it is a personal challenge and a self-motivator,” he said. “Doing all of the races is just a great way to keep myself in shape.”

There are numerous PARKING garages and lots available in Downtown Columbus. The preferred lot adjacent to the Columbus Commons is the Main Garage (56 E. Main St., Columbus, 43215). This lot costs $10 on Race Day.

+ Preview the race route. Knowing the route ahead of time allows you to review locations of hydration stations ahead of time and prepare mentally and physically for your race. Take note of medical and refueling stations, and drink options along the course.
+ Be prepared. Lay out your gear the night before and fill out the details on your race bib. Make sure all of your devices (watch, phone, headphones) are charged up and ready to go.
+ Be Weather Aware! Keep an eye out for severe weather and prepare accordingly. For severe weather on race day, look for push notifications from M3S. to keep you updated about last-minute race changes.
+ Wear layers. Choose items to stay warm and dry with layers of clothing you aren’t afraid to toss.
+ Follow the 15-degree rule: Dress for your run like it’s 15 degrees warmer than the current temperature.
+ Fuel up! Eat breakfast before arriving at the race. Choose easy-to-digest carb-rich foods with a little protein and choose foods you’ve eaten while training. Eat a simple-carb snack 15-30 minutes before the race gun goes off. While in the corral, sip on a sports drink and get some final fuel with graham crackers, a banana, or sports gel. Again, stick with what you’ve trained with.
+ Race day isn’t the time to try something new. Stick with the clothes, shoes and foods you know.
+ Pick a parking lot or bus route. There’s a map on the race website
+ Relax, stretch and smile! It took a lot of hard work to get here today. Enjoy the moment!
+ Pace yourself. Designated runners will maintain consistent minutes-per-mile paces to help keep you on track. Or, use a smart watch or other device to help set your pace and stick with the tempo at which you have been training.
+ Use adhesive bandages or balm to prevent chafing. The medical stations will have petroleum jelly.
+ Stay hydrated. Refueling stations are designed to move runners along quickly.
+ If you see a runner in distress, alert medical personnel along the course.
+ Warning flags will be flying at each refueling station. If they’re not green, stay alert and follow instructions.
+ Clear the chute. Keeping the finish line clear keeps your fellow runners safe.
+ Keep moving. A “warm down” after your race is a really good idea to help with soreness and recovery. A slow walk or really light jog can go a long way!
+ Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Drinking water or sports drinks will help you recover.
+ Take a victory stretch! Proper stretching will help with your recovery.
+ Post-Race Medical Tents are located in two locations: The main medical tent is located south of the finish line and there is a second one in Celebration Village (in the Commons).
+ Listen to your body. If you have pain that won’t go away, talk to a sports medicine doctor or call the OhioHealth Sports Medicine Helpline at (614) 566-GAME (4263)
+ Recap, review, reset. Think about what you did well on race day and goal set for your next race. Need tips for staying healthy, getting faster, or setting training plans to meet your goals? Call the experts at the OhioHealth Runner’s Clinic, (614) 566-1RUN.

Runners line up each spring for the OhioHealth Capital City Marathon, prepared to complete a 13.1-mile course through downtown Columbus. For Brittany Garner, the 2024 race became a medical emergency, and a story of resilience.
On April 27, 2024, Garner was prepared to run her third Capital City Half Marathon. Instead, she began experiencing symptoms later diagnosed as multiple strokes.
“I anxiously traveled to my running corral when I felt a horrible pain in my neck and the back of my head,” Garner said. “Suddenly I became dizzy and confused but thought that maybe I twisted my neck in the bathroom before the race.”
Despite feeling disoriented, she continued.
“After trying to text my husband and friends that something was not right, the race began and I started what would be a very traumatic journey to the finish line,” Garner said.
Her symptoms worsened as she ran.
“I can’t remember everything about this race, but I do remember big events along the course of the race,” Garner said. “After it started, I felt dizzy and unsteady the first several miles, but I was able to continue running.”
She struggled at the first water station and began losing coordination.
“I remember running into a parked car and trees,” Garner said. “Spectators helped me off the ground several times as I ran off of the road into the curb, each time assuming I was just tired and not prepared to run.”
Despite the warning signs, she pushed forward.
“Something inside told me that I should end my race early,” Garner said. “But I am not a quitter, I had to try to finish what I had trained over four months for.”
With the help of friends, she crossed the finish line over three hours later.
“My friends found me with about a half mile left and walked me through the finish line,” Garner said.
Later, Garner ended up at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital. At 35, she had suffered three significant strokes in her cerebellum and occipital lobe. Recovery included weeks of speech, physical, and occupational therapy. She walked with a labored gait, and struggled to find words. Garner received a “Keep Making Plans” bracelet in her race packet, not realizing how meaningful it would become.
“Keep making plans, keep moving forward, and remember that recovery is possible, even when you feel it’s impossible.”
In 2025, Garner returned to the race, determined to run safely, avoid stopping, and set a personal record—all of which she did.
“Everyone is running their own race, figuratively and literally,” Garner said. “If you face adversity, use setbacks to make you stronger. Do not let your illness or injury define you.”
Garner encourages people to listen to their bodies and seek help when something feels off. She hopes her experience inspires perseverance.
“I want others to know that just because something unexpected happens, it doesn’t mean you stop living,” Garner said. “You can still achieve your goals, set new ones, and come back stronger than ever.”

This year, when you support the OhioHealth Capital City Half and Quarter Marathon, and its benefiting charity the OhioHealth Foundation, you will bring vital breast health screenings to women across the state with the OhioHealth mobile mammography program.

The OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon, OhioHealth Quarter Marathon and Columbus Promise 5K can be equally fun for participants and spectators. Here are a few tips to cheer on your favorite runner or walker.

OhioHealth will sponsor three sign-making zones that will help you motivate your favorite runners and walkers.
• High and Spring streets
• Front and Long streets
The High and Spring streets location is a short walk from the Start and Finish line and offers prime viewing to see runners and walkers in the Half Marathon, Quarter Marathon and 5K while the Front and Long streets location is the perfect spot to see Half and Quarter runners approach the Finish Line.
• Frankfurt and Third streets
At just past the two-mile mark on the Half Marathon and Quarter Marathon course and just past the 1-mile mark on the 5K course, the German Village location provides ideal viewing for runners and walkers early in the event. After you see your favorite runner or walker, hit up one of the nearby coffee shops.
In addition to the OhioHealth Spectator & Sign Making Zones, check out these prime viewing spots:
The OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon will feature a combined Start and Finish Line again in 2026. The Start and Finish Line will be located on S. High Street near E. Town Street just southwest of the Byers Xtra Mile Finish Line Party making for a prime viewing location.
After the Start, take a short walk to Rich and Fourth streets to see Half Marathon and Quarter Marathon participants at the 3-mile mark or to Broad and Fourth streets to see Half Marathon and Quarter Marathon participants at about the 3.5-mile mark.
Watch Half Marathon and Quarter Marathon participants run past the Greater Columbus Convention Center. Afterward, walk over to the North Market for a snack before picking up Half and Quarter fields at Vine and Front streets.
