Statement This portfolio contains my five years of work in Shih- Chien University, Architecture Department. These works are not only the display of design results but also a journey of self-exploration. Seek self-recognition of architecture in every different design method. My works include theoretical designs, such as converting from matte painting to architectural space or volumetric stacking and shaping to create space. There are also observations on a practical level, including environmental observations and social observations. Environmental observations are designed according to different environments, and they can be both functional and sustainable under the conditions of being able to integrate with the environment. Social observation is the goal of satisfying needs and re-creating, and while solving problems, it can also create different meanings for architecture. These explorations in various fields of architecture have broadened my horizons and stimulated my desire to explore more knowledge and establish my thinking logic and unique views on architecture. I hope that through this collection of works, readers will be more aware of my exploration process as a learner of architecture and the thinking process behind each design.

The original suprematism painting
Extrude By using the painting of suprematism to change 2D images into 3D. First, transforming the original artwork into the landscape. The landscape could be artificial. Second, extend the painting. However, it must meet the logic of the image itself, not only the shape but also the color must follow its own rule. The last step is to transfer the painting into a public space that people can use as an exhibition space or library, even a park for people to come and relax.

The public space uses an air corridor to connect all the buildings, and the buildings surround all the general area to create a whole base where people can live and move quickly from one space to another. All the circle elements are elevated to be buildings, and the other parts are made to be the corridors or aisles. All the buildings have a circle basin space where people can have a space to rest do some casual time. There is two entrance road that connects outside and leads people to the inside of the campus.

Maze The space stimulates the senses to make people recall their childhood memories. To raise the feeling of excitement, fear, happiness, or confusion. Create a device that is like a maze to confuse the sense of direction. Using curiosity to make people eager to go in and confusing them with the maze-like device. When people are searching for an exit, but they can’t. The sense of panic will show up and eventually end up traping in a confusing space. But it will leave a deep impression. The shape of the drawing is transformed into the architecture plan. The model also shows the path connects to the outside of the campus.

Into the Fire The project is to construct an observatory in a volcano landscape to best blend in and have a great view of the whole environment. The first stage is to go to the field service and try to feel the atmosphere and choose the best spot as the base. Follow the first stage is to draw a series of paintings best express the feeling the the the environment to make the observatory best blend in. The final step is to finish the design that can fulfill all the requirements.
Base one is the atmosphere the base created. Using the color lump collages to create the feeling in the opinion that can best express the atmosphere.
11
Final work Final model from different sight of view.
Final concept and Proposals Based on the final concepts to propose a series of schemes best create the feeling of loneliness. Moreover, the design can provide a great view to observe the base and the volcano itself. At the same time, not to destroy the view itself. Therefore, the proposals of the project should be better blended in with the view and best observe the whole base.
12
The site plan shows that the terrain of the base is like a basin. The slopes surround flat ground. Therefore, the best spot the gets the view to the whole sight is on the hill. Thus, the structure is embedded into the slope to make it possible to be built on the spot.

The observatory provides a base to those who want to study and research the volcano landscape and provides them a place to stay overnight. Therefore, it must have the functions that can fulfill the needs.

How Tree Drinks Water The base is on a mountain in Taiwan, and I choose a place on the top of the mountain where I can see the whole mountain across the valley and cover with no tree but only grass. When designing the tower, I have research the plant on the mountain as a reference system for their water reserving strategy and the growing pattern of flower and leaf. Also, the entrance and the circulation, how people go on the tower, how to use the public toilet. Another essential element of the building is the water collecting system. I use a way of water collecting. It’s called Fog net. The water will be collected by the fog net, reserved at the central water tower, and supplied to the toilet.

Flow From High To Low To combine hot spring with a restroom for the tourist. For the reason that the water resource and the clean air are varied precious in the natural environment. Environment protection has become a significant issue for this project. To design a low pollutive architecture in the mountain, the water collecting system has become essential. Using the sloping roof to collect water and using the pipe to deliver the water. Also, the fog net that captured the fog to become water connects with the same pipes collecting rainwater and is used by every restroom. This system can reduce the usage of water and save the energy to carry the water to every restroom. The wood is also constituting suitable for the natural environment.

Star observatory The base choice of mine is at the Dahzi Bridge, which is the darkest place in the middle of Taipei city, which makes it the best place for observing the stars. People who live in the city don’t have much opportunity to look at the beautiful sky in the night because of the light pollution. The design of the rock shape makes it a good place for people gather around, enjoy the beauty of the star night and having some suitable activities such as music events or meditation. Provides people in the city a place to be silent and enjoy the best of the beautiful nature.

2020 Lin’s Unit-Re-Use, Re-Urban This is a study about volume and mix-used program architecture. I am trying to find a volume that can be replicated and combined to create a horizontal and vertical space relationship. Find an issue related to the base situation and try to make the program helpful for the problem.

Re-Use, Re-Urban The concept of Re-Use, Re-Urban is to allow people who are no longer working and things that are no longer used to create value for each other. Let retired people participate in the process of remanufacturing, and this content is to reuse the eliminated items to achieve the value of re-creation and reduce the environmental pollution caused by over-manufacturing new products.

Design methods: Stage 1
Inca Wall
Architecture experiment-Volume and Space
Space is created by volume, using the concept to make space. By using the Inca wall as the reference, through several steps to make the volume. Reorganize the volumes based on the requirement of the programa cultral exchange center and library, exhibition center. Arrange the volume and space to create architecture. The project is to study and learn from the volume created by the steps using the results from the studying and make the proper space for the program. It’s a whole new way of understanding architecture.
Stretch the volume base on not changing the facade
Extrude volume Place the volume into a new cuboid
Cut off the volume
Put the volume at the edge of the cuboid
New volume
Logic: This stage is to study the consequences of the steps. Observe the effection caused by every different way to do the steps.
Stage 2
Setting program and base
Arrange the volumes
Cut the floors
Arrange the prgram spaces
Hollow the volume
Logic: According to the results of studying of the first stage. Choose the best way to arrange the volumes that fits a specific program.

Program arrangement
Phase 2- Program and base setting Phase 2- Base setting
The program is a cultural exchange center and office. This program is a public building with a big outdoor space which needs open space and private space.

Phase 2- Arrange the volumes
Phase 2: Hollow the volume
This method makes volumes surrounding as a squareshape, which makes the building to get more public space. The outdoor space are arrange in the lower level to create and connect the out door space which suit better to the public building program.
Hollow the solid volume to create indoor-space
Method 1: Square-shaped arrangement Both of the methods are better suit for the more private living space, less public with more split-level and private space.
Method 2: Make a vertical-stacked arrangement and connect the volumes’ notch to make more split-level space.
Method 3: Make a vertical-stacked arrangement and connect a vertical outdoor space to make the light can go to the bottom level
Phase 2: Prgram space arrangement
Main logic: All the indoor spaces near the cut-off outdoor spaces are the most finely divided. Therefore, place all the communication space in these spaces are the most reasonable way to do it.
