Dear Bull Buyers, It is with great pleasure that we invite you to join us at our 18th Annual Bull Sale at the ranch in Bragg Creek on Saturday, March 20, 2021. We understand that in the time of this pandemic that we will be limited to some aspects of our regular Bull Sale hospitality, therefore we have chosen to move our sale time to 2pm. We would also like to acknowledge the value of working with DLMS and the option of online viewing and purchasing. We understand that during these uncertain times we will be able to offer multiple avenues to our customers. This year we will be working with Roger Peters of OBI Livestock Ltd. Should you wish to view the bulls prior to the sale they will be available for viewing at the Bragg Creek Ranch the Thursday before the sale. Please feel free to contact Rob or Amanda with regards to any of the bulls or heifers. We as always will offer our sight unseen program and will work closely with you to find a fit for your program through data and phenotype. At Highland we are also proud to offer all the Limousin bulls as part of the Limousin Legacy project offered by the Canadian Limousin Association. This includes parent verification, and advanced genomic EPDs. All but one of the Limousin bulls are homozygous polled, a trait we are proud to pass along to our customers’ herd. We once again have selected bulls from Neil and Deneen Brown of Double Four Farms Ltd of Erskine, Alberta that are progeny of Highland Boston to offer as percentage Limousin bulls. We also have additional Angus Bulls from Tim Harper of Lacombe, Alberta. All bulls will be ultrasound through the CUP program. The heifer selection this year represents daughters of some of our more prolific mother cows in our herd, this year we are offering both Red and Black females. We would like to also recognize those involved with the preparation of the sale bulls, Triple S Cattle Co. – Dave, Mary Beth, Dylan and Karissa Sibbald for the management at their facilities, Peter Boake, Allan ‘Buck’ Thompson and crew for clipping, Jordan Buba – Photography, DLMS for videoing as well as Katie Songer of Top Stock Magazine for her designing and publication of our sale catalog. COVID PROTOCOLS The current situation in regards to COVID is a fluid situation that is impossible to predict. What we do know:

The sale will take place as usual, in a live auction format. Online bidding will be available on DLMS.ca The size of our sale facility offers a lot of room for the people who are in attendance to be comfortably spaced. We will supply hand sanitizer and masks, and will do everything in our power to offer a safe environment for our customers. If you are not comfortable coming to the sale, please feel free to come and look at the cattle beforehand, and utilize the sale staff or online bidding to participate Unfortunately, the sale can’t be the same social event as in years prior. We will plan and hope for the 2022 sale to be the usual event that we all enjoy.
VIEWING OF THE BULLS Viewing of the bulls will be welcome at any time prior to the sale. The bulls are housed at Triple S Red Angus and will be moved to Highland on March 18th. The heifers are located at Highland Stock Farms. ABSENTEE BUYERS OPTION If you are unable to attend the sale, please contact Rob or Amanda. We would be glad to discuss the bulls and your needs to find you a bull or bulls that fit your program. If we deliver a bull that you do not like, you do not own him. TERMS & CONDITIONS All bulls sell under the standard breeding guarantee and guidelines recommended by the Canadian Limousin and Canadian Angus Associations. Copies are available upon request. Announcements from the auction block take precedents over printed material. BOARD ON SALE BULLS We can keep bulls until delivery. We would like all bulls picked up or delivered by May 1 unless previous arrangements have been made. These bulls must be insured. Pick-up on sale day would be greatly appreciated. We at Highland believe that the homozygous polled trait is the most important thing we can pass on to commercial cattlemen. If you use a homozygous polled bull, you will not have to deal with horns. We do not use the term double polled as all it means is that the parents are polled and the offspring have not been tested or they did not pass the homozygous test. We have only used homozygous bulls for several years and our goal is to have a homozygous polled herd of which we will be very close to 95%.

HEARTBREAKER 13H and HITCHHIKER 14H are twins. These two maybe the top herd sire prospects in the sale. Their dam Highland Zenith 45Z is arguably our best black cow by the great bull MAGS War Admiral, whom is also the sire of Highland Boston 30B. We recently flushed her to Greenwood Electric Impact, the Supreme Bull overall breeds at Agribition and Farmfair, and received 11 embryos. Electric Impact is also the sire of Greenwood Wisteria 14G the top selling lot that we purchased from Greenwood Limousin in the 2020 Western Select Sale. 45Z has twice produced our second highest selling bulls in 2017 and 2018 both selling to Mark Liddle of Chinook, Montana. In 2019 her son sold to the Halbert Family of Nanton and in 2020 her son sold to Rob Dahm of Rockyford.

These percentage bulls were again born at Neil and Deneen Brown’s Double Four Farm, Erskine, AB. The Browns had purchased our 2016 Agribition Champion Bull Highland Boston 30B and again he has produced this really great set of percentage bulls. Unfortunately, these will be the last set as we were so impressed with these bulls that we repurchased Boston last spring and he will write a new chapter here at Highland with calves being born in 2021. Some great cattle people have purchased these percentage bulls in the last three sales and have nothing but high praise for their calves. If you know Greg Appleyard, Jim Turner, Tom Dawson, Jason Stinn, Ben Lowry, Mark Liddle or Neil Brown – just ask them.
